Even worse, my entire fleet, my Mega Shipyard, and majority of my military industrial complex, including the largest ecumonopolis forge world, were sandwiched between these two Contingency nodes.

The idea that Tiyanki could interfere with Hyper-Relay network amuses me.
I want to make that a mod. To make the peaceful space whales both more numerous and self replenishing, and interactive.
So Xenophobes actually have a reason to actually attack the beasts, while Xenophiles are actually inconvenienced by their presence occasionally.
But only when Tiyanki come within missile range will they block Relays or Gateway function.
Although maybe not L-Gates. Black hole systems are a bit sparse on worlds to visit so they'd be down too often.

Get in built natural weapons and module pockets for more conventional weapons in a customized slot.
Did you want armoured whales? You can use dragon scale thanks to a research and search quest.
I think the search quests can be in neighboring space. Just start a war and get a warship there to unlock the next step and bring the event chain home.
You are friends? Then I expect you can sneak there with open borders.
Inward Perfectionists? Just claim their border and get ready for a challenge. Your goal is to get to the one world.

This happened in my most recent game. I became the custodian, had a massive navy backed up with a massive fed fleet. I didn’t even get a war in heaven because a fallen empire declared war on one of my subjects (before awakening) so we had to go to war and crush them.
I didnt wipe them out, let them live, they then attacked the other fallen empire and almost wiped them out. I had to finish off the first empire and destroy their planet cracker.
So now I’m sitting with complete control, no fallen empires and the crisis refuses to spawn. I think there’s a chance at an AI rebellion based on a few events that have happened, but NOTHING is happening.
My allies killed all the pirates, all the leviathans are dead, the fallen empires can’t get back up and the scourge won’t spawn…

Good video. I especially liked how the Lokken are itching for a fight and looking to piss off the local precursors. Sounds like they've entered the end game grind.
Have you ever thought of doing games besides Stellaris? I think Endless Space or its sequel could be good.

The video is great but hits at something that annoys me about the late game. First, population size suppressing growth is BS as it works exactly opposite IRL. Secondly, Dysons not being habitable or able to be used as Nicoll-Dyson beams to defend systems? And being limited to one? And technology ending at zero point reactors and rockets and lasers? What about graviton weapons, solar / supernova reactors, proxy universe reactors, black hole reactors and black hole launchers, nova bombs (andromeda), mass effect fields (in system ship speed), rapid translocation point to point jumps for evasion, what about being able to create new stars, what about being able to shoot suns as weapons, etc etc? They need to have more late game expansion options, maybe activate the technology options once the reiterating tech options are all at XX or something. What about travel relays between Dyson systems so that when the hyperlanes fail, travel can still occur between systems without gateways? What about being able to make multiple ringworlds in a system at different angles? What about matrioshka worlds to generate 1000 research and +10 hacking/encryption, or +200 pops to machine intelligences. What about being able to turn gas giants into second suns? So much could be done but the late game kinda just becomes a choice between ascending or conquering the whole galaxy

    • @alecwest5935
      @alecwest5935 2 года назад +2

Population size suppresses growth because of game performance, not realism. If it was properly exponential I’m not sure if lategame Stellaris would even be playable for many people. For some it already isn’t. Every pop lags the game. This is why there’s settings in the launch menu to decide growth speed

Aaah the paradox of 4x games.
Where the real challenge began for IRL successful empires that expand rapidly, it basically ends in grands strategy games, because noone seems interested in modeling the entropy of victory.
The state losing control of the army as the soldiers come to love their commanders more than to their country.
The elites playing havoc with the economy as they overspend like crazy to out-clout each other.
Opportunists leveraging discontented minority groups to make plays at getting power for themselves.
Environmental changes meaning the structures that built the Empire can no longer support it.
The people slowly becoming discontent as the steady flow of spoils of conquests becomes a trickle.
Nah, screw all of that, let's make the only possible endgame crisis a random external threat whose power comes exclusively from having REALLY BIG numbers.
