An engine requires things to run: air, compression, fuel and spark. If any of these components are off it can cause your bike not to start or not to stay running properly. In this video, we share with you the most common problems that would cause your dirt bike not to start or stay running. Once got 3 TTR's, 2 230s and a 90 for 1000$. Sold them for 1100$ each and the 90 for 700$ after running the piss out of it. Gotta love knowing how to fix things.

Fastest way to start a stock TTR125: Remove stock Carburetor. Install VM24 carburetor. Kick lever down one time. Adjust idle screw. Ride. Spread the word.

Bought a used 125 for £80 yesterday, told me it’s spares or repairs, found out it was £900 new in 2009, upon further inspection I saw that the cheap Chinese spark plug just needed changing, costed me £5 for a new one, gave the carb a quick clean, and now it starts first time no issues and I’m about to list it for £450, love being mechanically minded lol
This is a very hard topic to cover based on how many different scenarios there could be, but you guys did a great job!

If you want to know if your fuel system is the only problem, put a little spray of brake cleaner in the intake boot then start. If the engine start and run for a few seconds, you know that your spark and your compression is good enuff.
And if it still doesn’t start?

I had the same problem. I had to take my whole carb apart twice because the first time I put it together I left the float bowl down and it would leak gas when I turned it on so I had to redo the whole thing again. After cleaning the carb it still wouldn’t run so I put all brand new gas and jets still wouldn’t start. Tried a spark plug and it finally kicked over after 1000 kicks lol
So u solved your problem

My Honda crf 150 r starts but It got extremely difficult. Thank you now it takes 1-2 kicks not 10.
I currently got a ttr 125L and it just suddenly quit starting. I mean literally. Rode it to check my mail, few hrs later went to take the dogs for a run and nothing. Tried for 2 days. I'll check these culprits.

I just dug out my 2001 ttr125L from storage at my parents house. Havent ran it in years and literally just went everything you described.. Minus cleaning out the jets. The bike wants fo start and it stqrts strong and goes for a few seconds, but as soon as I apply the throttle she dies. Im guessing its the jets? Or some sort of air\ fuel ratio is off and thats way above my head

Same thing with mine, pilot jet wasn’t clogged or anything, didn’t make sense for a while, Yamaha mechanic couldn’t figure it out, I figured it out, yeah yeh clean your jets that will help but I had a plastic ring that goes on the tip of the main jet, it was installed wrong the plastic ring was put on the end and screwed over which cause d it to die as soon as you touch the throttle, hope that helps
I have a yz 250f and it drained the oil while I was riding and it locked up the bottom end. I have the new parts but the motor is completely torn down and I have no idea how much it’ll cost to put it back together. And I have a xr650L and that’s making a rattle noise and I think that’s from the bottom end aswell. It loses power when I ride it. And I don’t want to blow it up. How can I fix this??

My will not stay funnjng i cleaned the carb. New gas . And my throttle twister for the cable. Seems like when u turn it pulls i losen it up and it dies but it when I apply pressure to the throttle cable it seems like either it's too tight or it's too loose. I can't seem to find The Sweet spot and it used to start every time first time now I cannot get it too
I have a Chinese db17 125cc, i know don’t even tell me. I let it sit over the winter, new aftermarket carb 1 year ago. jets were cleaned 6 months ago, throttle had no tension at all replaced that, throttle has tension now, checked my spark plug looks new no residue, only thing I can think is wrong is the jets are clogged. There was black flakes in my fuel injector idk that plastic piece that shows gas is flowing into the carb.

I’m kind of new to riding bikes and I fell into a river and I’m pretty sure my whole carburetor got submerged and I think the air filter got some water in it so could that mostly be the problem
nice vid. only thing i would add, is sometimes when cleaning the pilot jet, the holes need to me poked with a needle. especially if the bike has been sitting for a long time. in my experience at least.

I have a Thumb 110cc dirt bike and it's not starting i bought new carb bought a new spark plug it has Fresh fuel and compression in the silinder but it's not getting fuel Even when you put little bit of gas in the silinder from the fuel lining but it dont start
First of All : Check the exhaust plug is taken off
So my plug keeps getting wet from gas/oil mix, it will run for about 10 seconds then cut off. I have to clean my spark plug then it will run for another 10, im 3 turns out on the fuel/air screw

Hi, I’ve got a 2008 Yz250f and for some reason it won’t kick start when I have it in gear with the clutch pulled in, however it starts easy in neutral and selects all of the gears perfectly. Do you know why this could be?

Thanks man I didint know my bike had a air filter I don’t know a lot about them and just thought it was battery place. My problem is when I hit the fuel switch on no gas is coming out like somthing is stuck
MottoFresh4x4 I had the same problem. Just buy a new one. And make sure it is the same or that it has the same amount of outputs as the old one.
JensNedre wtf are you talking about? Please don't give advice if you don't know what you're talking about.
If there is no gas coming from the gas tank to the fuel filter to the engine you can start by checking if the filter is clogged and if it is, buy a new one. If it is not remove the fuel from the tank and put water in and see if it comes out of the gas tank
Evan Stitch Well. There are two pipes coming out of my fuel switch. Im not sure if they are for the two different jets or if one is a reserve line.
I tried to you tell him to get the original switch or atleast one that had the same design. But i can understand my explenation was abit unclear.

My bike runs beautiful except once the engine cools down I have to manually pour gas or starting fluid in the carb
I think mine is the gas, but idk how to test it and have been putting it off for months(the gas is probably 2 years old at this point) only thing i know for sure is it doesnt kick start, or roll start.
That would definitely be a good place to start. You can take the fuel line off going to the petcock to drain the fuel and then fill it back up with fresh gas. The carb might be gummed up if its been sitting for that long but you can try some fuel system cleaner before taking the carb apart.
Hiya. My bikes been off the road for approx 1 year. I've fitted a new battery but when I switch on? I have nothing. Zero. No cracking. NO electrics at all. I've checked the battery for charge,checked fuses and checked there is feed from the battery to the ignition switch. Any idea's why I still have nothing? would be greatly appreciated.Thanks

Hello i need serious help, Recently i rebuilt the top end of my 2012 ttr 110 but it doesnt want to start. Idk what possibly could be wrong with it. From what it looks like i think its in perfect timing, it has spark, the carb is taking fuel and the airbox seems to be fine but it still isnt starting. It has compression can somebody please tell me what i should go over next?
I have a yz250f it will take forever to kick start but it will ride fine has plenty of power but it won’t idle and if u cut the choke off it will bog out I ordered a carb rebuild kit for it or would it be the valves it doesent really pop and crack tho?

Yes i been having trouble getting my bike to kick start or electric start ot only want to bump start but even bump starting can be a pain in a** sometimes. Any suggestions please anything helps? I have already rebuild carb and new air filter.

I have spark, i have gas, my airfilter is good and i have compression. I looked at the main jet and pilot jet and cleaned them. I can see right through the tiny holes.
Put it back together and tried to start my dirt bike. It wont start.
What hte hell is wrong?? Please help.

Lol my bike is brand new built it my self never had an issue with any other bike but this bloody $2000 ZS212 Chinese motor I got 5 gear 22hp I put it in a in I don’t know what he’s called in America, but it’s got a postie bike here ct110 postie bike fully restored it and can’t even get the dam motor to run and the bike has been sitting because off it for like 7 months irs got spark its got compression as for air intake doesn’t have one just a little pod filter but I had another bar that was riding flying without the air filter
I have a 98 ktm 380 mxc I replace my back wheel it has not been started in a month I go to go ride it, has no spark. I replaced the stator/ pickup and the coil still no spark and I hope it’s not the cdi it’s 300 bucks for my bike would you have any more ideas I would appreciate any input thank you!!
I would suggest starting with the simple stuff like putting in a new spark plug to be safe, checking your grounds/wiring connections, and making sure the wire going into the spark plug cap is making a solid connection before going onto things like the CDI box.

i have a 2 stroke Yamaha rt 100 it want start and the last time i road it. it started to backfire and i cleaned the spark plug i got it to start once do you have in idea what this means
Have a 1980 rt 180 2 stroke she start and then backfire then die when she gets warm and wont start for a few days at the least, my dad says he thinks it has something to do with the magneto so check that, hopefully you get that beast runnin again

Clean your carb don’t be discouraged it really is super easy only 4 bolts just don’t strip them

hello, I have a question, I mixed gasoline with Ronda and I poured Ronda, my motorcycle shut down while driving and it wouldn't start, I drove home, took everything apart, cleaned the carburetor, but the spark plug was black, so I'm going to buy a spark plug and I'll try to see if it will fix this problem, do you know what could happen to my motorcycle due to Ronda?

What do we do if the air intake isnt clean?
I have a 2001 wr426f. It is extremely hard to kick over. You can stand on the kickstarter and she will barely move. But it turns over just fine when you pull in the compression lever. Would you have any ideas that would cause that?
Has it always done that since you've had it? It's a good thing your bike has that much compression but also a pain for starting. Those bikes are notorious for being hard to start and you can find forums where people talk about changing the exhaust cam to a 2003 YZ cam to give you the auto decompression feature and make kicking it over a lot easier.

You may want to do a compression test to make sure your compression is in spec. We have a video on how to do that here: ruclips.net/video/ui2cvCiGqA4/видео.html . If your compression is too high it sounds like it might be a problem with your valves or decompression device if your bike has one.

Ok, so I wrode my klx140rf through a little puddle of water, and it was barely at the engine like that's how high it was. And after I got out of the water, I was only in for like is full second. It wouldn't start, it wouldn't idle, it wouldn't gas. And when it did start, I couldn't rev but an hour later, perfectly fine. Why

hey, I have a 1999 Yamaha rt 100, when I try to kick start it, it has a lot of compression. more than normal and wont start, I ordered a new airfilter and checked the gas flow. do you have any suggestions to why this may be?

I have a 2015 crf250r it won’t start unless I bump start it and when it runs I have to keep giving it gas and when I don’t it slowly dies and the compression went low on the bike I’m thinking it’s valves or the shims might be the issue

I have problem with 2001 yz 2 stroke that dosent want to turn on, at times when try kicking it on aftet the 3rd kick it seems get really hard to kick and it always happens every after couple kicks. Can anybody help plz!! Bike has new top end new spark plug and its got spark, checked carburetor float and jets are clean and also checked reed valve and its in perfect condition.

Don’t kno if anyone will see this as I am commenting on a 3 year old video but I have a rebuilt 2005 kx125 , got a new carb with it tuned by a professional, new clutch plates, new spark plug with spark, there’s compression, gas flows freely into the carb, everything is new on it , it was running fine then one day just wouldn’t start or even act like it wanted to start, I’ve checked the kill switch and everything and can’t figure it out , can anybody help me out on what the issue is Bc I have everything it needs to start, compression, spark, gas, clean carb, everything . I’m completely lost with it .
I have a 2013 kx250f. It wouldnt start so I change the air filter and ran. A month later it wont start. So I change spark plug and nothing (you can push start it). Test for codes and it was clear. Any ideas whats wrong?

Hey everyone i got a yamaha yz85. My first cross bike. When i bought it it runned fine. But now the bike wont start. I have spark. New fuel. When i run start it just dies.
