  • Ibrahim Abu Ahmad of the Regional Organization for Peace, Economics & Security calls himself both Palestinian and Israeli. “For me, to feel whole is to accept everything,” he says.
Today in Israel, Ahmad said that the term ‘Palestinian’ is “perceived as a political statement, not a peoplehood.” Yet Arab citizens make up about 1/5th of Israel’s population.
“We are 2 million people,” he told Blue Marble. “So many in the world don’t even know that we exist. And those who do know we exist, don’t know who we actually are.”
    This is Ahmad’s story.

Most Palestinians living in Israel actually seem upset by their lived experience in israel due to their informal status as second class citizens as they are an after thought in a state intended to be an exclusive jewish one so they are not guaranteed the right of return if they choose to leave temporarily or for their relatives who fled due to war to be allowed back in, bedouin areas aren't protected by the iron dome which the news mentioned this due to the iran attack which injured a bedouin child. Sometimes most people's reality there isn't feel-good content told through the perspective of one guy. I do appreciate his optimism but with the israeli far right currently controlling israel, it's unlikely they are willing to actually resolve anything. The closest to a good leader israel had was Rabin: he is the reason ethiopian jews are even recognised as jews as the israeli right wing considered them impostors due to their black skin and he was the only israeli leader even willing to truly consider peace. He was assassinated with the current israeli security minister Ben-gvir and convicted terrorist(who also incited racism- he was convicted of both in 2007) and netanyahu protesting against him for trying to get illegal settlers out of the west bank and back into israel.

@@sebia322 you'll have to tell me about your experience in Israel in more detail. It differs from mine somewhat. Israel was never intended to be an exclusively Jewish country, just read it's declaration of independence.
All parts of Israel are protected by iron dome. Most of the rockets were intercepted at very high altitude. The shrapnel that injured the bedouin girl was from a missile that was targeting a nearby airbase. Maybe you meant the Bedouins in question didn't have bomb shelters which may be the case.
Ehud Olmert is another Israeli PM who wanted peace. Most Israelis do want peace. They have been systematically gaslighted by right wing governments since the 70s, notbleast of all by Netanyahu's narcissism. Don't forget that we had a left wing coalition very recently that included an Arab party.
This pain will have to end soon.

@@sebia322 Israel was never conceived to be exclusively Jewish. The Declaration of Independence clearly states: Israel "will be based on freedom, justice and peace as envisaged by the prophets of Israel; it will ensure complete equality of social and political rights to all its inhabitants irrespective of religion, race or sex; it will guarantee freedom of religion, conscience, language, education and culture; it will safeguard the Holy Places of all religions; and it will be faithful to the principles of the Charter of the United Nations."
Even Zeev Jabotinsky, the father of today's Likud Party, in 1934 wrote a draft constitution for the Jewish state which declared that Arabs would be on an equal footing with their Jewish counterparts "throughout all sectors of the country's public life." The two communities would share the state's duties, both military and civil service, and enjoy its prerogatives. Jabotinsky proposed that Hebrew and Arabic should enjoy equal status, and that "in every cabinet where the prime minister is a Jew, the vice-premiership shall be offered to an Arab and vice versa." en.idi.org.il/media/5103/jabotinsky-idi-2013.pdf
Any Arab Israeli (or Palestinian-Israeli, or Palestinian citizen of Israel) holds a passport of equal value to that held by Jewish Israelis, and have full rights of citizenship. To be sure there are problems and discrimination. This has more to do with the conflict between Israel and Palestine and all the distrust that generates. Yet, despite the conflict, Israeli Arabs have integrated well, and continue to integrate. Ibrahim is a prime example of this.
I challenge you to find anything similar for Jews in the Arab and broader Muslim world. The reality is most Israelis are descendants of refugees pushed out of their homes in MENA. There were once nearly one million Jews i 10 Arab states. Today there are fewer than 10,000 with most moving here to Israel. See www.jimena.org (Jews Indigenous to the MENA).
All outstanding issues between Israel and Palestine can be solved with good will. Refugees. Jerusalem. Final borders.
Of course, good will is severely lacking on both sides at the moment.

@@sebia322It's not only an informal, second class status. Israeli laws (National laws) stipulate that the only legally recognised right to self determination in Israel belongs to Jewish people. That leaves around 20% of non Jewish, Israeli citizens with no recognised rights to practice their cultural and religious traditions.
Non or anti zionist Jewish Israeli citizens are also oppressed.
Any group, which describes the 1948 Nakba as a tragedy, can have it's funding removed.
The current Israeli government is a fascist one. It has also spent a lot of money in trying to censor the freedom of speech, of international citizens, who question it's policies and actions.
Though I've read of Arab Israeli citizens, who hold professional positions, I've more than equally read personal accounts that echo what you've described.

Please explain why Samaritans are not ' Palestinians'.. What is a Palestinian? Do you mean that true Palestinians are Arab Philistinesl? Golda Meyer said that she was a Palestinian. WHAT DID SHE MEAN? Even though Palestine was never a sovereign country but just a land area, is not this man's testimony significant in that there are many ethic groups welcomed & given citizenship in Israel, even those whose family have a grievance against Israel? This man is not saying that other ethnic groups are not so important. He is saying that those who blame Israel for stealing the land are believing lies. Even the Qur'an, & those who Arabs muslims who study it, quote the reference of where it is written that God gave the land to the Jews,0 the people of the Book. Just because I have knowledge doesn't mean the unmentioned are insignificant. IT means that I don't agree with many Arab nations & the anti Israel ,& anti- Jew,
World, who blame Israel for causing the Arab- Israeli conflict? Are Druze Arabs? Is there a conflict between Druze , Samaritans & Israel,? Israel is accused of their genocide of Arabs & the string of their Land. Perhaps those you mentioned also have a grievance against Israel. Mr. Netanyahu 's administration gives then citizenship but are they persecuted by Jews? Please clarify.

@@aumelb No, Israel refuses to accept that Palestinian and Palestine are Arab only.
Israel has always agreed to shared peace deals and land compromise, the Arabs not.
Israel gave the whole of the Sinai Peninsula back to Egypt in a post-war peace treaty.
The word "Palestine" describes neither Jew or Arab, who are both Semites, but the ancient non-Semitic Philistines who dwelt in Philistia, the narrow coastal strip of land bordering Egypt where Gaza is today, which was never the entire territory of the land of Canaan (later Israel).
So Palestine and Palestinian do have much meaning for Jews living in the ancient land of Israel, as the usage of those terms exclusively for Arabs only helps to delegitimise the Jews.
Would you accept a new name applied by others to your historic land just to please them?!
Arabs should be able to live in the Biblical land of Israel just as Jews should be allowed to live in Arabia without any animosity and in peaceful co-existence, but the Arabs want all or nothing.

    • @eliewiii6543

It's only because that land was named Palestine at some point (supposedly by the Romans), while Palestine refers to one of the deadliest enemies of the jews, the Philistines, that leaved around Gaza, Ashkelon, maybe Tel Aviv in biblical times (the locations are especially mentioned in the story of Samson if you're curious).
Why would jews want to be called like this?
They just renamed the land/country Israel after its previous name when they were all living there, that's not mote complicated than that.

    • @scented-leafpelargonium3366
      @scented-leafpelargonium3366 18 дней назад

@@eliewiii6543 Yes, I agree fully, but at least as a formality while the land was being termed Palestine by non-Jews any Jews living there were called Palestinian on a technicality by the foreign administrators of the land, such as the British and the Turks before that.
The Jews themselves always knew the Biblical Hebrew term "Eretz Israel", or the "Land of Israel" as being its historic true name, but unfortunately the rest of the world did not use that term.
Even in English Bibles you would see maps entitled as "Palestine in the Time of Jesus", demonstrating that it was their belief that Israel was only an ancient term from the times of David & Solomon and that by their estimation of the situation by the Jews being scattered by the Romans that the Jews and their land as an official state were separated forever.
But they overlook Biblical prophecy, just as the Jews returned from Babylon previously, so they would return again to build up the ruined cities of Zion, to plant vineyards and to make the desert bloom as the rose, and all this has happened before our very eyes in the past century.
So the Jews were called Palestinian more by others, but it is still important to note as a stake in their residency there as allowing the term to become solely Arab by usage helps the Arabs in their claims by it giving the impression that all Jews in Israel today are only foreign interlopers, when of course many communities lived there since ancient times, not only migrating Arabs.

I live in Australia, of mostly British descent. In many ways similarly to Palestine, Australia was colonised by the British, although there are differences.
What happened last October happened on almost the same weekend as a very significant referendum was being held, in Australia.
The referendum was proposing to create an Indigenous Voice to Australian Parliament. Most of the year had been spent in discussions, revelations about history - that is: Indigenous Australians speaking, without being interrupted, frequently for the first time. A horrible layer of racism towards Indigenous Australians had become evident, that I and many others didn't realise, was still so prevalent.
Few were looking forward to the referendum (which failed), but the events of Oct 7th completely took the attention from the question of Indigenous Australians finally being heard, to the even more dire situation in occupied Gaza and West Bank. If many in the world were not aware of the century of oppression of Palestinians, or the nefarious influence of far right, zionist Israeli lobby groups in a number of western governments, we now do.
After learning more about the circumstances of the State of Israel's founding, I feel that similar processes to Australia's: of reconciliation and apology, are vital, from Israel, to what are still, currently, the Occupied Palestine Territories.
It seems very important, to me, to acknowledge and apologise for 75+ years of violence and oppression of the natively born Palestinian people.
Even though people now born in Israel didn't personally colonise Palestine, they have inherited a responsibility to right the devastating lack of respect that's been shown, by British zionists and later immigrants.
Even if someone (who may have immigrated, from centuries of ancestry in another country, to Israel) feels that Palestine/Israel is their "native land"; the fact is: every member of the natively born League of Arab States, as well as some zionists, were 100% opposed to the partitioning of Palestine, prior to 1948.
The UN and intending zionist immigrants, knew that, yet ignored those wishes.
Reading about the Peel Commission (1930's) and the responses to it (Wikipedia has a concise entry) will show that the wishes of the natively born people (of multiple religions, including Jewish Palestinians) wanted a Palestinian State, where followers of all religions would have equal rights, with the reasonable rights (as opposed to unreasonable 'rights') of British colonials also respected.
In reality, it was outside, elite business interests that disrespected the rights of the natively born people, who were actually going to have to somehow live in this artificially divided land.
A proposal for apologies from the UK, was reported at BBC Newsnight, about a year ago. The proposal has taken years to put together and though I'm Australian, I plan to write to relevant UK organisations and polticians, to request that this important proposal is followed up. It would include apologies to descendants of both Muslim and Jewish Palestinians, who were all forcefully evicted from villages, early last century and who suffered greatly, under colonial rule.
An Israeli Rabbi, whose name I'll check, has just made an important and heartfelt speech to the UN. I believe that all Israeli citizens should hear his speech. He talks (with documentation) about Palestine, befire Israel.
If current, far right politicians aren't able to understand their responsibilities to act respectfully towards all people, then citizens ought not to wait for them to act, in my opinion.
I sincerely apologise for my past and even current governments' roles in failing to require Israel to comply with International law. I am distraught by my government's current failure to issue sanctions against Israel. Those sanctions were requested by the president of Medécins Sans Frontières, but the request has been ignored.
I feel sure that most US citizens are appalled by their government's sanctioning of the ICC and the US weapon fragments, that are now scattered all over the heinously ruined Gaza.
The international world has a serious responsibility to not enable governments, which are committing crimes against humanity.
I will keep doing my part, to urge my government to not only say, but do the right thing, which must be done, to help Palestinian, Israeli and other countries people, in the middle east.

G-d gave a portion of the Holy land to the children of Ishmael. Based on Zohar Shemot 32A

[R. Hiyya then says] Woe is to the time that Ishmael was born into the world and was circumcised. What did G‑d do [to appease Ishmael]? He distanced the children of Ishmael from supernal cleaving and gave them [only] a portion below in the Holy Land on account of their circumcision.
And in the future, the children of Ishmael are destined to rule over the Holy Land for a long time when it is empty from anything, like their circumcision which is empty and imperfect. And they will prevent the children of Israel from returning to their place until the reward for the merit of the children of Ishmael reaches completion.
The children of Ishmael [i.e. the Arab nations] will cause great wars in the world and the children of Edom will gather against them and wage war against them, one on the sea, one on the dry land, and one near Jerusalem. And they [the children of Edom] will rule over them [the children of Ishmael], but the Holy Land will not be given over to the children of Edom. [The children of Edom is the Christian West, for Edom is Rome (see Num. 24:19, Rashi) and Rome signifies Greece-Rome and the Roman Catholic Church, the foundations of Western Civilization]
