Should we be worried the bird flu will spark a new pandemic?
Should we be concerned about the bird flu? “Right now, the risk to the general public in the United States is low,” physician and epidemiologist Neil M. Vora told Blue Marble. “But certain flu viruses have this ability to mix and match, and as they mix and match, they can come out looking like a brand-new virus that has abilities to transmit differently and cause different levels of disease.”
Human activities such as deforestation, industrial livestock farming, and the commercial trade of wildlife have led to a rise in pathogens jumping from animals to people, an event Vora said is known as a “spillover.”
“If bird flu mutates so that it can transmit after that initial spillover event, the ...

Editing mosquitoes to end malaria

“As a global community, we had said we’d like to eliminate malaria by 2030,” said Krystal Birungi (@krystalbirungi2048), a field entomology coordinator for Target Malaria Uganda. Not to mention that their leaders are millionaires living in the Gulf region on the money that was intended to develop Gaza. This video is a pathetic attempt at propaganda. I live in Australia, of mostly British descent. In many ways similarly to Palestine, Australia was colonised by the British, although there are differences. What happened last October happened on almost the same weekend as a very significant referendum was being held, in Australia. The referendum was proposing to create an Indigenous Voice to Australian Parliament. Most of the year had been spent in discussions, revelations about history - that is: Indigenous Australians speaking, without being interrupted, frequently for the first time. A horrible layer of racism towards Indigenous Australians had become evident, that I and many others didn't realise, was still so prevalent. Few were looking forward to the referendum (which failed), but the events of Oct 7th completely took the attention from the question of Indigenous Australians finally being heard, to the even more dire situation in occupied Gaza and West Bank. If many in the world were not aware of the century of oppression of Palestinians, or the nefarious influence of far right, zionist Israeli lobby groups in a number of western governments, we now do. After learning more about the circumstances of the State of Israel's founding, I feel that similar processes to Australia's: of reconciliation and apology, are vital, from Israel, to what are still, currently, the Occupied Palestine Territories. It seems very important, to me, to acknowledge and apologise for 75+ years of violence and oppression of the natively born Palestinian people. Even though people now born in Israel didn't personally colonise Palestine, they have inherited a responsibility to right the devastating lack of respect that's been shown, by British zionists and later immigrants. Even if someone (who may have immigrated, from centuries of ancestry in another country, to Israel) feels that Palestine/Israel is their "native land"; the fact is: every member of the natively born League of Arab States, as well as some zionists, were 100% opposed to the partitioning of Palestine, prior to 1948. The UN and intending zionist immigrants, knew that, yet ignored those wishes. Reading about the Peel Commission (1930's) and the responses to it (Wikipedia has a concise entry) will show that the wishes of the natively born people (of multiple religions, including Jewish Palestinians) wanted a Palestinian State, where followers of all religions would have equal rights, with the reasonable rights (as opposed to unreasonable 'rights') of British colonials also respected. In reality, it was outside, elite business interests that disrespected the rights of the natively born people, who were actually going to have to somehow live in this artificially divided land. A proposal for apologies from the UK, was reported at BBC Newsnight, about a year ago. The proposal has taken years to put together and though I'm Australian, I plan to write to relevant UK organisations and polticians, to request that this important proposal is followed up. It would include apologies to descendants of both Muslim and Jewish Palestinians, who were all forcefully evicted from villages, early last century and who suffered greatly, under colonial rule. An Israeli Rabbi, whose name I'll check, has just made an important and heartfelt speech to the UN. I believe that all Israeli citizens should hear his speech. He talks (with documentation) about Palestine, befire Israel. If current, far right politicians aren't able to understand their responsibilities to act respectfully towards all people, then citizens ought not to wait for them to act, in my opinion. I sincerely apologise for my past and even current governments' roles in failing to require Israel to comply with International law. I am distraught by my government's current failure to issue sanctions against Israel. Those sanctions were requested by the president of Medécins Sans Frontières, but the request has been ignored. I feel sure that most US citizens are appalled by their government's sanctioning of the ICC and the US weapon fragments, that are now scattered all over the heinously ruined Gaza. The international world has a serious responsibility to not enable governments, which are committing crimes against humanity. I will keep doing my part, to urge my government to not only say, but do the right thing, which must be done, to help Palestinian, Israeli and other countries people, in the middle east.

@@goldengun9970 No, Jewish people are described by researchers as "genetically diverse". (See Harvard and other genetic studies). The myth of a small, founding Jewish tribe, which emigrated (voluntarily, or not) to many other countries, then never ever married outside their "tribe", nor did anyone ever convert to Judaism, is a myth. That myth has been used by people, in the last century (zionist colonials), who had/have busines intentions in the middle east and who seek to have social control and influence in that region. British colonials were interested in gaining access to trade routes (see documentaries at The Balfour Project You Tube channel) and since then, US citizens, such as Joe Biden, have been quoted, for decades, as saying: "if Israel didn't already exist, "we" (US elites) would have have to have created it". Why that is: for the reasons of "social control", or "protecting democracy" (really: protecting US business interests!). Old footage of US Congressional celebrations of the founding of the State of Israel, look to me, to have a "Mas onic feel", not any kind of respectful, Indigenous sense. Not only that; Islam and Christianity did not exist, at the time of the founding of Judaism. People who later converted to those two religions were often Jewish. Genetic research also has found that Palestinians and Jewish people share a lot of common ancestry. Palestinians, with centuries of ancestry in the middle east, have far more semitic ancestry, than the zionist immigrants from Europe, whose ancestors converted to Judaism. Iran is actually another semitic country. Iran was also a country which had a "protected" and socially advantagedl Jewish population, centuries ago. When people try to use the argument that "Jewish people" have some kind of "superior land claims" in Palestine; they are really talking about a belief that their religion is "superior", or they're expressing an oppressive and disrespectful inclination towards nationalism and suprematism. Apart from the descendants of Jewish people who have lived in the middle east, for centuries, the only real "right" that people have, who were born today in what's now Israel, is that they were born there and thus it's their home. Trying to make a State, in which religion is conflated with race and with politics, is not a characteristic of a democratic, modern, free country. If Israel wishes to do this, then I don't feel that it's right that genuinely democratic governments should consider Israel as a similar country to theirs. The same sanctions should be issued, as they would be, to any other country that has been committing decades of serious human rights violations. The fact that this has barely been happening, does not give me a good impression of those apparently democratic countries levels of corruption. This is a problem that I know is deeply concerning to the majority of US citizens, themselves. I also have concerns about some of my Australian government's actions, related to Israel's government and related to Israeli companies weapons manufacturing contracts that have been undertaken, within Australia.
