Chanel sales have reportedly slowed down in the U.S. I would think this price increase would slow down sales even more. I wasn’t even really into the classic flaps. The price increases kind of influenced me and I ended up buying a medium classic flap when it was $6800 USD. I also wonder who buys the classic flaps. Because I don’t really see celebrities photographed with classic flaps. Birkins, yes. But not Chanel classic flaps.

They may look into getting it before the price increase. It looks like the prices have doubled over the past 4 years or so, ridiculous! Despite all these price increases the only bag I may ever consider buying from Chanel mentioned from these is the mini rectangle or mini reissue but no plans to do that this year. I think if someone loves the brand or really wants one of these Chanel bags, they will find a way to get it even if it means cutting spending on other things. Thanks for sharing Xx

I am glad I have all the Chanel bags I need. I bought most of mine during Covid time. I would never buy at today's prices. It is an insult to our money even if we can afford them. When I go to Saks, I have avoided walking into Chanel for over a year (just done with them!). I have no idea what they are doing. You are correct that the younger generation is not going to want to buy these bags as well. They are more into experiences and vacations than luxury goods (this is how my daughter feels anyway)!

I personally stopped buying Chanel several price increases ago. Probably 2019. However, someone must still be buying otherwise the price increases wouldn’t still be happening. Prices stabilize when supply and demand are equal. So either they are holding supply back to create scarcity or someone is buying.
There are definitely people buying. Albeit, less. Less clients in the stores, but each one buying in the place of two or three. But it looks as though most clients are buying seasonal bags, SLGs, shoes and accessories. Perhaps Chanel wants to segregate groups of clients - A larger group “Aspirational” clients who will buy small (yet pricey) accessories and shoes and a smaller group who will buy clothing and jewellery. They are the ones calling the shots and making billions. I guess they’re onto something. Who knows!

I'm priced out of Chanel. I'm not a big Chanel bag person, I prefer Hermes bags. The only bag I've ever wanted is the small 255, black, PHW because of the history of the bag. I prefer to buy from the boutique but even if I ignore all the bad leather controversy I haven't been able to get one from the boutique! Poor customer service, poor leather, crazy prices....I'm out.

Channel and other luxury brands are supposed to be exclusive. They’re just continuing that old age model. They don’t want their products to trend or be accessible. If you aren’t extremely rich, unfortunately (and systematically) they aren’t for you.
You are 100% correct! But even those who can easily afford these bags are looking at these prices in shock, mainly 'cause they bought the same bags, better quality, years prior for a lot less. Chanel has also produced teeny tiny cardholders on chains as toy bags with an "affordable" price point to attract aspirational clients. What they are doing though, is reducing the number of clients in their store while profiting the same. It'll be interesting to see where all this ends up.

I guess there will be some gen z-ers who inherit these bags from Gen X, some gen z-ers who will actually make a lot of money and buy new from boutique, some gen z-ers who won't ever afford and will opt for super fakes, and some gen z-ers who will just not be bothered by luxury.
It is baffling. These bags do not cost a lot of money to make so Chanel is straight up greedy and alienating their buyers by doing this every year. They look ridiculous and therefore we look ridiculous spending this much!

@@therealshakeen this is true and it's all about getting things on sale now if it's possible. 20 to 40% off will reduce the prices to fairer standard. Consumers have power to affect sales and tell the brands to reign in their increases by affecting their profits.
