Thank you for your thoughts, I’m transitioning from luxury bag purchases to invest more on self love, facials, massages, good food, skincare & travels.
Experiences and education are invaluable! They are some of the few things that can never be taken away from you. And they don’t take up physical space 😂 My closet is exploding.
Also, I remember when Chanel, LV, Fendi, Gucci, were sold in department stores like Macys. I purchased my first Gucci bag for $300 and my first Chanel for $500 in a department store, then they pulled out and would only sell in their individual boutiques….
@@Vasalyn my Nordstrom closed before Covid. I have no luxary boutiques. Closes is about 4 hours in good driving conditions. Which could be worse for sure. I do recall Gucci at the mall LS Ayer’s more than a few years ago! lol. 😆
I bought my daughter in her 20’s a 2017 Subaru Forester in October for $20k in Alberta. A few weeks ago I saw a small iridescent pink Lady Dior & I fell in love. It cost be $8900 in Ontario. I paid the credit card bill off but I started to think about what I had paid for the bag. Almost half of what a really nice used car was…..for a bag. I think over the years we’ve been desensitized to the price of luxury. I used to think $1500 was crazy money, then $3k. Then bags went up to $5k & I bought & bought. I have several Chanel bags I paid between $7-13k for. At least with Chanel I won’t lose what I would have with the Dior, but it’s still asinine imo. I think I’m having an epiphany about my luxury collection. I’m thinking of really thinning it out. I’d rather make some money off the sales & invest the money for my kids to have in the future.
It really is something to think about! Yes, I agree, we’ve all been desensitized. The increases have accelerated over the last couple of years, and that’s nothing to do with inflation. That definitely is wise to take advantage of the a potential profit margin and invest if you decide to resell!
I hear you, we bought our adult daughters second hand Mercs for 20K each. My Chanel collection accumulated over 30years were each purchased from 1 to 5K, some which I have given to the gals. Don’t want them wasting money on luxury bags now, the price increase is crazy. Rather invest the $$ in stocks or properties😊
@@boldxbeautifulbxb wow, your daughters are so lucky to have inherited some of your collection! I bet the quality of yours is impeccable! I also can’t wait for my daughter to wear mine… hoping she will have an interest for it 😂
It hadn't happened to me before but i was sooooo put off when a sales associate told me it was the last bag and as soon as i decided to buy and went to pay he was like oh let me get you a fresh one from the back. In my head I was like what? Thank you but you said it was the last one in the country. After that i don't really trust the sas. I would have still bought the bag last one or not and i do love it but made me think they'll say anything for a sale. Its not fair to generalize but i feel that way now.
I bought my very first chanel in jumbo flap in singapore last year, i spend $15760sgd for it. I been loving it since and been using it weekly to work. And this year my handbag adventure is, its hard to make a decision to get another flap in small size or a small lady dior. I been stalking chanel sgd prices and it still didnt increase. So i was kinda telling myself that if this year they are not increasing their prices i might get another flap. Because i feel the dior is too dressy for a mummy day to day errand, even though chanel is a little more expensive, the cost per wear feels more ‘affordable’ as i still can use it from day to night.
Thank you for a great video. I have no idea what Chanel is thinking at this moment. But maybe we've just been spoilt to be able to have that extra $$ in our pockets and not with recession we cant. Nice to see you back love from Sweden
Thank you! I think they are trying to reduce the number of clients in stores. Also, perhaps trying to steer their brand image away from bags and more towards their true DNA - clothing!

I'm thrilled that I purchased my Chanel bags before 2018. I love my Chanel bags and will always treasure them. The style and quality are fantastic. Maybe that is not the case today.
I remember the previous LV/Chanel prices. The new increases are hard to swallow, so I opted for Hermes bags. I found the Hermes shopping experience to be fine, given the quality of products, but I am now experiencing the same sentiment with the most recent increase.
I agree. I find the Hermes’ shopping experience to be fine locally (as it is always swamped!) and outstanding at other boutiques I shop at in other cities, largely due to particular SAs. The last increase was higher than what I remember it being in the past.

I bought a 2003 Hermes Kelly, black Togo leather, from Luxury Promise in London. The bag had just been to the Hermes spa so I thought 9k was a great price for it. There is definitely a shift. I've seen it, talking to family and friends and how they buy. We are being reflective and stepping back from luxury shopping. Some want to be less materialistic, some want to keep a wardrobe that reflects only core personal style and not buy into trends and collections coming every season.
You're right. I also think it's cyclical and largely dependent on cohorts. For those who already built a collection, they're likely to scale back. And those starting out, may want to grow their collection, only to prune later. Or they'll find other brands that are more niche and better priced.
Definitely, there is also the 'one in and one out' closet. Where an item is sold or donated and replaced with a new purchase. Thus the wardrobe will remain the same amount of clothing and accessories. This is another measured way to look at our wardrobes. Another good thing about this system is when selling the items the money is used to buy whatever is wanted and the cost is offset.
@@waterbearer4627 yes! I have so much admiration for people who are able to do that. They don’t feel super attached to material items and are able to evolve. And we know desirability pushes sales the more it’s perceived valuable the more it’s desired even though the materials don’t even come close to the cost of the actual bag or leather goods. They are making mega bucks just off their name and perceived value. I also heard from Super Dacob that he heard a rumor (for entertainment value only 😅😄) that Chanel was trying to sell the company and drum up sales so it would be more valuable to the buyer.
