Cheers mate - a few extra tips. Don't try spraying when temp outside below 21 degrees, put you tub of stain in the sun for a bit to warm the mixture, makes it more runny. Finally can add 10% warm water to dilute.
Just done 14 panels with this and as I went along found it performed best when pressure was up to give best dispersion of paint and as it was warm sunny day just sprayed 4 or 5 slats and whilst wet run a 100mm brush over it to give full cover then on to the next 4 \5 slats it just worked best for me that way
Use a wide funnel. For pouring. Makes it a lot easier and mess free. I am about to erect 17 brand new panels and concrete posts. I am going to spray my new panels before building the fences. I can’t wait to uses mine. I need dry fine weather..👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️
I’ve been to homebase today bought the sprayer and the fence preservative/paint and the exact same thing happened to me. It glooped out onto the patio all down the side of the sprayer unbelievable, so came to youtube to see if any one else had same problem and here i am watching you doing exactly what just happened to me. 😂 when i did get it in there it sprayed on great despite it looking like there was no chance of it being able to be sprayed on because of the weird consistency. 🙂
I used Ronseal Fence life back in 2008, applied by both brush and sprayer. However, at that time the Ronseal sprayer was electric, powered by four D cell torch batteries. You had to use a special thinned version of the Fence Life paint ,available in plastic pourable containers. I wonder why they changed to this newer and more messy system?
To avoid spilling it I put a plastic tray underneath when filling. Def consider adding a little bit of water to it as can be a bit thick. When cleaning out if you pressurise and then remove the spray attachment the water comes out really fast as it’s under pressure and still cleans the pipe through - saves standing there for an age with a bit of spray coming out of the sprayer. I find it a bit uneven in application but I think that’s because a)needs stirring well before you put the paint into the sprayer and b) don’t stand too close to what you are spraying.
My Ronseal was lumpy and doesn't say it can be thinned. Stirred it within an inch of its life and the spray was inconsistent and took an age to cover. Clean up of the nozzle, unit etc was a ball ache. I'm going to revert to using a brush.
That demonstration on how to breathe through a mask was top notch When you say the correct paint for the sprayer . what are the spray type paints called . got 2 massive buckets of ronseal its pretty thin seems sprayable Doesnt seem to say anything about spray . would that knacker the machine?
Couple of tips mate mix your paint with a little bit of water not loads and give it a good mix you want it like a thick milkshake not lumps when you was pouring it, also use a cheap funnel saves it going all over the place you can use old plastic bottle cut them with scissors to suit the hole size 👍🏻
In the booklet when they fill it the picture shows a rectangular container with it being poured from a corner. You’re using a round tub so of course it will go everywhere… did you mix it first?…
Yes, of course I mixed it 😀 and the paint only comes in round containers. I suppose you could get another container which is rectangular and pour in the paint from the round container and then pour that into the sprayer.
Did you have any complaints from your neighbours with the spray going through the gaps in your fence? Thinking of nailing in a sheet to cover the back of my fence.
I don’t think you mixed the paint sir? Also no harm adding 1 pint of water to that tub and mixing. Flows better. Most have a pressure release valve so you don’t have to unscrew the main fitting and let the air out. In my experience the sprayer rods fail, cheap plastic. The pressure splits them over time. Brush for me, time consuming but less hassle and mess. These water based paints don’t harm the environment and are safe to go down drains. Oil based are different. Cheers
I didn't show it but the paint was stirred. I actually found the pressure relief after filming! 😃 The safety data sheet specifies, 'do not allow product to enter drains or watercourses.' So I wouldn't recommend pouring it down drains. 👍
I found by just adding a pint of cold water to the paint and then mixing it for a couple of minutes with a paint Wiske in a drill makes it loads better for the sprayer and using a big funnel to get it Into the bottle is so much easier and you don't need to spend between 25 and 35 quid on the ronseal sprayer I just bought the same size one off amazon for £11 and it did exactly the same job and after I finished the 22 fence panels 6x5 in half a day rather than 3 to 4 days with a brush I chucked it in the recycling bin it was not worth the time and effort and the mess cleaning it out or just give it to your neighbour and he can paint his side of the fence and if he is clever enough and uses the same paint and the same colour he can just pour his paint straight into the sprayer and bobs your uncle and then throw it away or better still give it to next man and then next year or two your neighbour can buy the sprayer
I bought this last weekend. Yet to try it because it rained. Just a thought do I have to use the paint recommended to go with the actual unit or can I use another one? The paint comes in packets so if I didn’t use it all, I would have to discard it which would be a waste of money.
Hi there. I just wanted to ask a question about your fence. It was brown before you painted over it. Was that the previous colour and did you do any preparation before spraying with the charcoal colour? You see, I can't imagine having the will to do any preparation first. Thank you.
Appreciate what your saying, thanks. I suppose i will blur it out but I don't think it matters that much as my car number plate is seen by 100's of people every day just driving around, probably more than will view this video! lol!
@@UTILITARIANTVUK You may be right, but the person that see you car passing by the road, if even noticing it, doesn't know that you have everything that you showed in your videos. Or may just gone mad that you poured some paint down the drain, can't tell what could trigger people, you see nowdays they get mad for everything and the opposite of everything 🤷🏻♂️
That looks like a whole load of fannying around TBH mate. Reckon with all the preparation, masking off and cleaning down, I could have done the job with a brush in half the time !
@@Malcm59 lots of the videos only show the spraying part and none of the prep and cleaning. It probably was faster than a brush for me but I'm not a particularly fast painter!
@@UTILITARIANTVUK It's good for someone to show the whole process from start to finish, and the fact that it's not quite as easy as the manufacturer makes out - Excellent practical advice as ever my friend. Definitely won’t buy another one… your video was good 🙂 It’s not as fast as you would think , and the mess 😡 Used a funnel to pour it in . Said enough to do 6 panels , managed three sides of shed 8x6 . Yes , it may be less hassle, no not really . Cleaning it up after , good hour plus to remove paint inside and clean nozzle. Cost effective, No , £35.00 for pump, £12 for each bucket of paint . But I’ve tried it
Trying to fathom this thing out. Paint is coming out in a thin jet and no amounting of rotating the green nozzle changes that. Tried the setting on the dispenser too. Cant get a spray. Does not resemble videos on youtube, just a useless thin jet of paint.
I don't even get a spray using water after giving it a good clean. I managed to get a print out of the nozzle to make sure all of the parts are in correctly. Still only getting a thin jet. All a bit of a mystery.
What an absolute messy, wasteful piece of junk. I Would not recommend this sprayer. It did not work like the guy in the video. With a brush it takes ages to paint my 18 Panels. I Saw this video and thought I’d give it a go. It’s a right chore. I bought the recommended amount tubs of fresh stain from B and Q along with the sprayer. The nozzle kept clogging. It’s messy to fill because the tubs are heavy, even with using a large wide funnel. When it worked it covered to thickly and I ended up using two extra tubs to finish the job. It definitely does not do what it says on the tin!
Cheers mate - a few extra tips. Don't try spraying when temp outside below 21 degrees, put you tub of stain in the sun for a bit to warm the mixture, makes it more runny. Finally can add 10% warm water to dilute.
So no point buying if in the UK then since we have about 3 days where it’s possible to use it

I use an electric Wagner Sprayer, brilliant.
@@rad6666 is the Wagner sprayer you use the one thats specifically for fences?
My pump fell apart first time l removed it to pour the paint 🤷🏻 load of junk.
Cracking video mate 👍 Thank you! This summer will be a 1st for me, thanks for the tips!
Thanks for your video, got my golf club fence to do, cracking tips cheers

Great choice of t-shirt
Theres a filter in the lance, make sure it clean, and when finnished best to take filter and bits out, thoroughly clean with water
When I used sprayer paint glooped out had to water it down to obtain a spray pattern

How works at u? Didn't spray mine , only one liner and that's all.

My neighbour has a fence backing on to ours so it wasn't an issue.
Mine came out in a jet not a spray ?
Good job mate 👍
You could use the small spray to paint the edges and the wider ones for the rest
I don’t think you mixed the paint sir?

Do you need to use Ronseal paint or will any fence paint do.
Not sure sorry. I've only ever used Ronseal.
Thanks just been told any fence paint.

Not him calling the cover a label AND removing it 😂
Hi, which colour is this ?
Went through same problems. Thinking of electric spray only going forward for large areas, trellis.
Or just use a house broom!
Did you try the house broom?
I use a wagner and its great...overspray only problem
How often do you have to keep pumping it please?
I could probably cover around 3 to 4 meters of fencing before pumping again.
Hi there. I just wanted to ask a question about your fence. It was brown before you painted over it. Was that the previous colour and did you do any preparation before spraying with the charcoal colour? You see, I can't imagine having the will to do any preparation first. Thank you.
The only prep was to clean off a bit of dirt with a hand brush. As it was brown before, I did have to apply 2 coats.
Good honest demo, but what a lot of hassle.
Did you paint front and back of the fence with 18L?
Yes on the back fence no on the side fence bordering my neighbour.
Can I use my Ronseal pump spayed for weed killer?
Yes, I cant see why not.
I think ill stick with a brush , looks messi and awkward , plus the spray would go over and inbetween the fence onto nabours property .
Hi what colour paint are you using
Charcoal.
Liked for the back to the future t shirt, then liked for actually encouraging a mask, then liked for a great review! 🤝
Can you use normal ronseal paint.?
I used Ronseal Fencelife Plus. Not sure what other paints can be used sorry.
In my experience, brush wins, especially when you need to use it again after 3 layers of Ronseal sprayer. So a complete waste ot time and money?
Warren be here now looking at you
