  • Well folks, as I'm sure many of you know, our most popular project at the Florida Railroad Museum has been the restoration of GP10 Locomotive #8330.
It's at this time that I'm excited to announce, that she's up and running once again. This fairly short prologue sums up our journey from when she initially went out of service, following the restoration process back to her first weekend of operation on the weekend trains.
As the video will note, she does not yet wear her new coat of paint, as we intend on using the rest of the year (given the very busy event schedule) for further road tests. We plan on having her repainted right after Christmas if all goes well.
To support this final stage of the restoration, or the museum as a whole, please donate or take a ride with us. Find details at our website - frrm.org.
    Thanks for Watching!

Dude, it’s such a freaking pleasure to be the guy you call first for this kinda stuff. Everything from the shots, to the horn, to the history behind this locomotive is special, and being able to document that is a gift. Keep on brother, it’ll smooth out🤝

Well…maybe it’s because you’re one of the few who can actually share relation to at least a small piece of that significance. Though, there’s much more than that - I’d say it here but I think I’m still on zero strikes so I’ll bite my tongue again. Thank you equally for doing it all justice with your intricate documentations.

It's truly amazing when something seems almost completely "dead and buried" then gets a chance at another go 'round. Glad things are going well.
Had a similar happening at Whitewater Valley this year with resurrection of Armco Steel 709, a Lima-Hamilton 1,000 horse switcher so can appreciate the experince!
By the way your musical accompanyment selection is absolutely "spot on"!!

You can say that again. I have a number of videos saved on my devices from years back that I took for myself, stating in them that her days of operation were “A time gone by”. Oh, what I’d do to put a word in to that 2021 self of mine. Wonder what he’d say now. I’m proud to say that I had a part in this restoration, though I owe it to the contributions of our volunteers and other staff. A common goal leads often to a common result.

This is not just the story of a mechanical restoration; it is a love story between some special men and a great old machine. Thanks so much for making the public aware of it, Dakota. I'm glad to see you're still at the museum. I was afraid you'd been ash-canned for some reason. (But, forgive me; I always assume the worst.........) Thanks again.

Nope, we’re still kicking. In fact, we’re Maintenance of way foreman now…imagine that. As such, plus just a difficulty to avoid comments from our board when I do, I’ve abstained a bit from making museum videos. Some will come up here and there, but it won’t be as heavy of a focus as I initially intended. Big events like this, though, will certainly get a posting. You’re absolutely right about the story part… this was one of the locomotives that I grew up with. It is still crazy to me to think that when it went out of service, I was still in middle school. Now, I’m one of the people operating it. As some would say, exciting shit.

@@kotabeaner Absolutely! And, personally, I think if your board was on top, they'd take advantage of your talents to promote the museum through these RUclips videos. Granted, they might want to audit them before they were broadcast, but aside from some tweaks, they'd be great publicity. But what do I know? I'm just a stupid retired executive...........

As a kid I raised money for the inland lakes railroad to try and save this engine (and that railroad) via hot chocolate. It was my introduction to my passion for the rails. I was sure this engine had been made into coke cans by now, so incredible to see old 8330 still running the Florida rails. I’m older now and would love to volunteer my time to keep this piece of history alive for as long as possible. So surreal. I would almost consider this engine to be one of my first friends.

    • @kotabeaner

Didn’t even think about that. Though, technically, she never had a 645 motor. Her original 567 simply had its piston liners replaced for 645 liners. The horsepower output was thereby increased, so they changed the designation to a 645-E, though technically still a 567 shell.
