Hi from Germany I found your Channel and now i must see all the great Videos you made. I wish i had your Skills in Repairing and Restaurating. Very nice and old Bikes you have in your Videos. Some of them are unknown in Germany. And.... you have a new Follower ^^
Hello guys and greetings from Germany 🇩🇪 I enjoy one episode when having breakfast 😃👍 I wish all of you a great day, take care, stay healthy and keep on going 👍🍀🌞
Your youtube channel is a breath of fresh air. Your care and respect for the machines, the customers and the process is fantastic. Keep producing the content. I love what you are doing! Well done Simon too.
When I see a bike in a state like this all I think is that if that was any other kind of vehicle it'd have been unusable *far* before that. Bikes can take such an incredible amount of abuse and the stuff that can be cleaned and reused is incredible.
Your videos convinced me to finally get my bike fully serviced, and true enough my local bike mechanic found that my lower headset bearing was worn out. Keep these videos coming!
Great work guys! And congrats on one year of weekly videos. I discovered your channel during lockdown and have been looking forward to new videos every Wednesday. Here’s to many more!
Wish I could take my bike to get it services by you but I live in the US. I'm hoping to learn a lot from them so I can take care of my bike for maintenance. Love your videos. Great work 👍
Ace vid!! Great work on the bike!! I have a Boardman mht 8.9,. Things started to fall apart on my bike quite rapidly after 3 years of having the bike,. Now, every single thing on the bike has been changed except for the frame and saddle..! 👍🏻😎👌🏻💯
That bike had a very hard life and you've done a great job restoring it - but miraculously, you didn't have to tighten or replace any spokes, nor re-true either wheel, nor clean and re-grease the bottom bracket.
Congratulations on 1year.it's nice to see old and new bikes getting serviced,I always enjoy the before and after shots keep up the good work.looking forward to the next bike.
You know what, I like this bike, and its owner. I know lots of people will be cross about it's condition; the bike has certainly been neglected, however this bike has been ridden and ridden until the wheels (almost) came off, and that's a good thing. Hopefully the bike will be better looked after in future though!
Great work as always! Much of what I know about bike repair is because of repair of a 7 year old mtb I have, that looked good but had quite a lot of drivetrain wear as well as leaking hydraulic brakes and a lot of play in the rear wheel. Sure, with the price of all the tools, it would have been way cheaper to have a shop repair it, but I find it worth it, as it is fascinating to me to know how bikes work. In the pursuit of repairing said bike, I watched quite a lot of videos on the topic, which lead me to this channel. Really amazing to see how a professional shop does it! Greatings from Portugal!
Brilliant. Have a workshop at home and do bike fit..services etc. Really like the thorough rebuild here. Not just throwing loads of new bits, but proper restoration job. Beautifully done. Would say I do like the Boardman Mountain Bikes- frames nicely finished at the lug-joint areas, rather like the original Made in the USA Cannondale frames in the 1980’s. However you could devote a bit more time to show the end product..
Hi guys im quite new to this as ive only just discovered you, what a top job you are doing so glad ive come across you guys, lovely to watch keep up the great work
Great vid as usual. I could have happily spent many hours doing all of that. About the only thing I can't do is the headset cups as I don't have the press required and also pressurising the forks. You've turned out a stunning bike. Keep it up. Thanks.
@@Bikespeeds great work also by the chap recording and editing the video too. That takes a lot of time and it’s easy to forget this when watching the videos. Unsung hero in fairness.
Wow what a transformation so glad I found this channel, I’ve just bought the same spec bike even though it was second hand wow it’s an amazing bike, definitely going to keep watching you guys #bikeguys
This is why I have a habit of checking torque settings on my steed once a week and check brakes for wear. Awesome video, did he or she tell you about the mileage that thing done? Keen to know how far I can push a service ;))
Just found your channel and think you have some fantastic content. Thank you very much. I still have my first bike (Carlton)which I was given (second-hand) for my 15th birthday. I’m 70 next year so it’s lasted me well! Maybe you could quote me for rebuilding it? Where are you based? Cheers and all the best for the future of your channel.
Great video guys, thank you. For the new couplings you got to hold the bearings, can you share which ones please. I'm replacing both top and bottom bearings but the new ones are different to the old exposed ones. Thank you.
Another great restoration Lee and Simon - bravo. In regards to the sealed bearings, any tips on these - is it often that you have bikes come in with those the wrong way around?
We can’t say we do have any tips. Usually the main thing we see is that they’re not square but other than that each fault usually changes bike to bike 🧡
Im honestly amazed that will all this effort your went through, you didnt service the fork "properly" (nice work on the paint tho). With the state the bike came in considered, that fork must be busted by and deserves some love.
Amazing work, I really enjoy watching your videos! Just curious if the fork needed any servicing as the rest of the bike was in such a desperate state.
They felt fine to me, but I think the extra work would have been a deal breaker anyway. But you can see from the stanchions the damping was good. It was only the crown that was crabby.
Great channel. Keep up the nice work! Question, how do you deal with rust on aluminum frame under paint. Maybe you can show an easy and cheap fix for it?
We like to think that this is our style, as you say there’s many other channels that rebuild in real time but we like to show you the entire build start to finish, so naturally we can’t have a 2 day long video lol, thanks for watching!🧡
As you maybe saw it,I am a very big fan of your channel! I have one question if you don't mind to share an information...which is the torque specification for the screws from the brakes from a road bike and for the rear deraieur.?Thank you very much in advance and I can wait the next video!
Hi, love the videos really enjoy watching them, I have a boardman slr 8.6 I would love to upgrade bearings in headset to sealed is it possible to do this. Thanks
Bang on guys Quality service quality content 👌 I have a few questions Can you tell me what brand of wrap you used on the forks and where you get it from please
Under normal servicing I never remove them. But when building a bike it very much depends on the materials. Carbon, carbon paste. Alloys and steels a little grease.
I hate these sort of questions! I have pots of bearings and measure them at the time and then replace. I work a fairly brisk pace and am doing bikes all day every day and the bikes we film are often filmed 2/3 weeks before being published so by the time you see them I have often forgotten the technical aspects of each one. I truly have no idea. But you could remove one and take it to your local bike shop and get them to supply the size & amount you need.
It’s so difficult juggling what we put on film with what we do, some of this filming takes so long we just can’t practically show every form of work we undertake. Each manufacturer usually has a chart for rider weights and pressure.
Really excellent video and content - although I can't imagine how this refurb' was cost efficient for the customer it must have cost £100 & £100's of pounds which is well in excess of the value of this bike ? I would welcome your response ? how much did this repair actually cost ? etc............. thanks again keep up the good work........................
As always incredible video. Thank you for your content. I sometimes do bike service myself for friends. I've noticed that you are using mineral oil on non bearing moving points such as derailleurs. I like to use WD-40 SPECIALIST WHITE LITHIUM GREASE on those moving points. Until know I did not noticed any complains and lithium grease hold pretty well and long. What are your thoughts about that? Should I also switch to mineral oil on those moving points? :)
I’m no scientist when it comes to lubricants. There are no hard and fast rules. One mechanic will very much be different to the next. However I never liked the white lithium grease. I found it to creamy myself. But if it works for you it’s the right choice.
That bike looks to be a matte finish paint job. Doesn't the T-Cut and the polish you use change the paint finnish to more of a gloss type finnish?. At the end when you spray the Silicon Shine over the frame i am sure thats going over the discs and pads. To my understanding Silicon Shine is for gloss paint not really for matte paint as it will give it a gloss type finnish and may affect the matte paint over time. I would recommend you using disc brake covers when using that type of spray.
This sort of work varies very much from bike to bike, depending on parts and involvement. It’s impossible to have a firm solid price list for such jobs. We price when a bike arrives and then it’s up to the customer.
I wish my dad would thank me like that after helping him with everything he do. This got me teary eyed.

That’s nice to hear. Enjoy your fresh bike.
vinyl wrap on the crown - nice idea
Two thumbs up all the way from the Philippines

A new chain and cogs?
If those were the old ones I am next-level impressed with the cleaning

I’ve just cleaned and regreased all my bearings and swapped out my bent axle
This is magnificent, and I don’t use that word often. You’re doing great work sir, new subscriber, keep it up.
Beautiful frame! I love those super smooth welds,or fillers..
It's a shame seeing that bike in that condition! 😅

And some fixie riders only ride with a front! Each to their chose passion !
@@Bikespeeds true there mate
Great channel. Keep up the nice work! Question, how do you deal with rust on aluminum frame under paint. Maybe you can show an easy and cheap fix for it?
Aluminium doesn’t rust . Corrodes.
Can you explain wye you have grease on the rear derailleur spring?
Great channel, love to se old bikes get a new life!!
The spring rubs against itself, by lubricating it it’s just stops any chance of it rusting shut, it’s all about efficiency!🧡
Awsome job, what was the condition of the shocks..
Super 👌

East England 🧡

Paint depth checker. Just makes sure we aren’t going to polish through the paint.
