    Thank you so much for this video! I'm always hesitant to do projects that involve mounting things on walls because I can never find the studs, etc. Watching you make all the mistakes I make made me feel a little better 😂. Usually how-to videos show it going smoothly the first time and I get mad that my project doesn't go that way. I'm going to buy this rack now. It looks awesome.

    Just a future tip......Most stud finders locate the edge of the stud. Once you locate the edge, you still should have 1.5" to the other edge of the stud. You need to measure over 0.75" to correctly locate the center of the stud. That's probably why you were missing it. Enjoy!

    • @nofrontbrakes
      @nofrontbrakes  4 года назад +1

      We actually ran the finder both directions and ended up marking the middle. (I omitted that part to keep it under 45 minutes). I think our stud finder just sucks because I used it for another home project recently and it couldn't find 💩

  • @davidhalley9795
    @davidhalley9795 2 года назад +1

    We all make mistakes. From other videos the easiest way to measure was to lay it out on the floor with the bike in the rack. The rear tire needs to be touching the wall, measure the length and add 3" to be safe. I do plan on getting two and hopefully I won't miss the studs.

  • @manstersr

    Best to use deck screws not drywall screws even though they're cheaper because deck screws come with a torx bit which will not strip as easily as the Philips drywall screws. Also you have to slide the stud finder from both sides (directions) of the stud to make sure you are on the stud. I like how it swivels, I used some of the cheap flat hooks that screw right to the wall but the bikes are always in the way, wish I could swing them out of the way.

    • @nofrontbrakes
      @nofrontbrakes  4 года назад

      Haha I actually went both directions. Cut out a lot of the process so it wasn't an hour long video. Good tip about the deck screws.

    I think I would have hung some 1x6 strips horizontally across the walls. Then you wouldn’t be limited to hanging the racks only where there are studs. Two strips up top to allow for hanging the racks at different levels.

    • @nofrontbrakes
      @nofrontbrakes  4 года назад +1

      Interesting. Not a bad idea. I was afraid to hang 200lbs of bikes and racks from two 1x6s. It might have been fine. Luckily, studs spaced at 18" apart work pretty nicely for bikes, especially when I can angle them away from each other.

    • @L0cust
      @L0cust 4 года назад +2

      No Front Brakes if you anchor the strips every 18” into the studs the weight wouldn’t be an issue.

    I've got 3 of the same rack. Love them for the most part. The bottom tire holder thing could be designed a little better, as it's annoying to have to lift the wheel out of the center and move it to the side when you rotate the bike toward the wall, but I guess no design is perfect. You can also easily wrap a cable lock around the rack, which I now do to lock my bike down. It won't stop a determined thief, but it'll stop a snatch and run.

    • @nofrontbrakes
      @nofrontbrakes  4 года назад

      I found that if you put the tire holder spaced right where the tire tiouches, you can swivel them farther, and they make a weird noise if not and don't swivel as far.

    Love my Steadyracks! Best racks for sure. Funny video but I was getting so frustrated watching you! If you just read the quick directions, it goes way smoother. You don't have to pick the bike up to hang it. You should be able to wheelie the bike up and ride the frony wheel in to the rack and the bike comes of the floor as you push itinto the rack..

    • @nofrontbrakes
      @nofrontbrakes  4 года назад

      I do have the bikes in wheelie position. Unfortunately, rolling the front tire into the rack won't work because the arms swing side to side. It's easier to rest the seat on my stomach and lean back a little just to get the front tire above the point where the rack arm will swivel.

  • @Big2Planker
    @Big2Planker 4 года назад +1

    How much space did you measure between the racks? I'm guessing 18" on center to hit the studs? If that's the case, did you find it was enough space to manage the bikes on/off easily? Thanks.
