If Democracy will be saved, it will be in no small part due to Marc Elias. He positively *deserves* the Congressional Medal of Freedom (contrary to some others). And I hope equivalent honours from US allies such as Ukraine, the Baltic states, well, basically all NATO countries. These men are three of my heroes. If I understand correctly, the US needs 26 states to go unequivocally blue to definitively thwart this obnoxious scheme.

I would add to your list Patriot: A Memoir by Alexei Navalny. It, too is compelling and excellently written. If we don't get the right result Tuesday, we will need it as a handbook to navigate the coming years. If we get the correct outcome, it will serve as a reminder of just how fragile is our way of life and how much we need to work to maintain wthout taking for granted.

One has been sent in draft form to everyone in this broadcast. A Constitutionally ineligible candidate to hold office is Trump and Vance for the 20 reasons in the objection. The objections are based on Section 3 of the 14th amendment like the Supreme Court said in Trump v Anderson 23-719 ruling March 4 2024 at page 8 referring to footnote 2 Second on the National Popular vote compact, it is simple to get it on the ballot in Arizona, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio and Florida at minimum and maybe Oklahoma and Nevada too. As a State Constitution initiatives there are enough Democrat voters to get the 61 votes needed in any number of states that get it there Finally the way the little secret would work is to make not "lawfully certified" objections, but if Congress Dems pull their heads out their rear and file the objection NOW it ends it all because the objection is self sustaining as Trump is Constitutionally ineligible and only Congress can relieve that disability and they need not because the 2/3 cannot be reached. It is LEGAL what the law says and all this "high road crap" is just that - weiners crap. Wake up. Yes so patriotic that they want to elect a brain numb ignorant puppet who can''t utter a word without a teleprompter. The serious question is this: *_WHY is USA allowing trump to run for his dictatorship!!?_* This question is not about all the legal (and practical, and ethical) reasons there should be for a convicted felon, a seditionist, a person found liable of sexual assault, and an ex-president who messed around with highly classified documents showing/selling them to who knows who, to not be allowed on any ballot. (There are arguably more than enough reasons for trump to already be imprisoned and, at the very least, be prohibited from running for president.) All this, and more (e.g., his questionable cognitive state), is clearly a big and serious question in itself. The question I'm asking here, however, is about how a country can allow someone the opportunity to turn the country into a dictatorship. It has been obvious enough for quite some time now that this is trump's intent. He has been broadcasting about it himself for the whole world to see/hear. Coupled with the existence of the truly nefarious Project 2025 and all the people behind it, and coupled with the Supreme Court's (more appropriately called the Supreme Corruption) extremely dangerous immunity ruling, this has become even more glaringly obvious. And it is far too real a threat. Still, trump has not been removed from the ballot. Thus USA, literally, is seemingly fine with giving the destruction of USA (and it won't stop there, sadly), which includes stripping people's rights from them and flushing democracy down the toilet, a fair chance in this election. In other words, where there should be guardrails in place to protect the country and the people from domestic terrorist attacks, the country is instead opening a door to, and potentially welcoming, what would be the largest and most horrific domestic terrorist attack in its history. Saying that this is crazy (and immensely irresponsible!) is putting it mildly. It should also be noted that the threat would be virtually the same without trump, as long as people like those behind the Project 2025 are allowed a chance to get in power. Had Haley been the so-called republican candidate, she might not have been voicing dreams of retribution and vengeance, nor been talking about being a dictator and praising the despots and dictators of this world, nor promising that you won't have to vote again if you just give her your votes now... but she would have brought the Project 2025 with her into the White House. I've posted the above a few times already, and two persons from the UK commented that this could never happen in their country. My reply was/is: While it also might seem doubtful that this is something that could happen in my home country, Norway, no one should take for granted that they are immune to it. If the immensely unwholesome trump phenomenon has created a few silver linings in the rest of the world, it's that it is serving as a warning. Norway, pointing to Poland, Hungary, and USA as examples of how wrong things can go, has concluded that it is necessary to implement changes to our constitution. To better safeguard our courts from political interference, populists, and coups. Highlighting that it is imperative to do so now when the political landscape is relatively peaceful and the courts independence is not in question. In other words: to prepare for eventual future events of the more chaotic kind while the means and the consent to do so are present. Of course, it would be wonderful to see similar positive and necessary steps being taken elsewhere as well.
Some may have seen this oh-so-long post before. There are people who have urged/encouraged me to keep posting it, so now and then I do just that, on different channels hereabouts.
One answer historians give to your question is that authoritarian/fascist tendencies have always been part of American history. I listened to a very interesting podcast on this topic a while back. Unfortunately, I didn't save the podcast. The historian explained that the US was ideologically divided into the slave-owning southern states and the “democratic” northern states. The ideology of the slave owners is what you see today in the MAGA movement, racism, the law of the strongest, misogyny, religiosity and much more.

First the way to end any electoral count issue is to file an objection right now. One has been sent in draft form to everyone in this broadcast. A Constitutionally ineligible candidate to hold office is Trump and Vance for the 20 reasons in the objection. The objections are based on Section 3 of the 14th amendment like the Supreme Court said in Trump v Anderson 23-719 ruling March 4 2024 at page 8 referring to footnote 2
Second on the National Popular vote compact, it is simple to get it on the ballot in Arizona, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio and Florida at minimum and maybe Oklahoma and Nevada too. As a State Constitution initiatives there are enough Democrat voters to get the 61 votes needed in any number of states that get it there
Finally the way the little secret would work is to make not "lawfully certified" objections, but if Congress Dems pull their heads out their rear and file the objection NOW it ends it all because the objection is self sustaining as Trump is Constitutionally ineligible and only Congress can relieve that disability and they need not because the 2/3 cannot be reached. It is LEGAL what the law says and all this "high road crap" is just that - weiners crap. Wake up.
Trump can declare victory all he wants, but if 145 reps and 34 senators to sign an objection already drafted with 20 objection based on Section 3 of the 14th amendment he will be Constitutionally shutdown, and then it needs to be clearly stated to the MAGA morons, he did it to himself January 6, 2021 and while those who voted for him do not read the Constitution and Supreme Court ruling, he could stay on the ballot because there was a slim chance Congress would excuse his disability to hold office ever again but it was never going to happen and that is how stupid the Republicans have shown themselves to be and liars in every respect who made fools of all who followed Trump - the worst and most stupid president in history

Democrats took the "high road" re the the 2000 election abd again re the nomination of Garland to SCOTUS...and look where we are.

The serious question is this:
*_WHY is USA allowing trump to run for his dictatorship!!?_*
This question is not about all the legal (and practical, and ethical) reasons there should be for a convicted felon, a seditionist, a person found liable of sexual assault, and an ex-president who messed around with highly classified documents showing/selling them to who knows who, to not be allowed on any ballot.
(There are arguably more than enough reasons for trump to already be imprisoned and, at the very least, be prohibited from running for president.)
All this, and more (e.g., his questionable cognitive state), is clearly a big and serious question in itself.
The question I'm asking here, however, is about how a country can allow someone the opportunity to turn the country into a dictatorship.
It has been obvious enough for quite some time now that this is trump's intent. He has been broadcasting about it himself for the whole world to see/hear.
Coupled with the existence of the truly nefarious Project 2025 and all the people behind it, and coupled with the Supreme Court's (more appropriately called the Supreme Corruption) extremely dangerous immunity ruling, this has become even more glaringly obvious.
And it is far too real a threat.
Still, trump has not been removed from the ballot.
Thus USA, literally, is seemingly fine with giving the destruction of USA (and it won't stop there, sadly), which includes stripping people's rights from them and flushing democracy down the toilet, a fair chance in this election.
In other words, where there should be guardrails in place to protect the country and the people from domestic terrorist attacks, the country is instead opening a door to, and potentially welcoming, what would be the largest and most horrific domestic terrorist attack in its history.
Saying that this is crazy (and immensely irresponsible!) is putting it mildly.
It should also be noted that the threat would be virtually the same without trump, as long as people like those behind the Project 2025 are allowed a chance to get in power.
Had Haley been the so-called republican candidate, she might not have been voicing dreams of retribution and vengeance, nor been talking about being a dictator and praising the despots and dictators of this world, nor promising that you won't have to vote again if you just give her your votes now...
but she would have brought the Project 2025 with her into the White House.
I've posted the above a few times already, and two persons from the UK commented that this could never happen in their country. My reply was/is:
While it also might seem doubtful that this is something that could happen in my home country, Norway, no one should take for granted that they are immune to it.
If the immensely unwholesome trump phenomenon has created a few silver linings in the rest of the world, it's that it is serving as a warning.
Norway, pointing to Poland, Hungary, and USA as examples of how wrong things can go, has concluded that it is necessary to implement changes to our constitution. To better safeguard our courts from political interference, populists, and coups.
Highlighting that it is imperative to do so now when the political landscape is relatively peaceful and the courts independence is not in question.
In other words: to prepare for eventual future events of the more chaotic kind while the means and the consent to do so are present.
Of course, it would be wonderful to see similar positive and necessary steps being taken elsewhere as well.
Some may have seen this oh-so-long post before.
There are people who have urged/encouraged me to keep posting it, so now and then I do just that, on different channels hereabouts.
One answer historians give to your question is that authoritarian/fascist tendencies have always been part of American history. I listened to a very interesting podcast on this topic a while back. Unfortunately, I didn't save the podcast. The historian explained that the US was ideologically divided into the slave-owning southern states and the “democratic” northern states. The ideology of the slave owners is what you see today in the MAGA movement, racism, the law of the strongest, misogyny, religiosity and much more.
