    Thank you for this video Eric. Out here in London, we don’t get to keep our vandas outside and that causes difficulties in terms of using hoses or sprinklers for regular watering. I have been spaying them with filtered water once a day in the morning which is manageable in an indoor setup. I also soak them in a tall bucket with fertilizer once a week. In one of the videos in this channel it was said that soaking damages the roots and makes them susceptible to fungal rot. I just wanted to check if there is way around this whereby one soaks the plant carefully without damaging the roots. Otherwise I’m going to have to bring them into the bathroom to give them the required amount of water everyday which is not practical to say the least. I’ll be grateful for your view on this matter. Cheers

    Excellent video! In regards to using cal mag or epsom salt to help with too much sun ... how much and how often?

    • @orchidlife8224
      @orchidlife8224  3 года назад +1

      These will help with magnesium deficiencies and help to "green up" plants... typically for epsom I use 1 tablespoon per gallon of water and apply liberally once a month... a little less in the hot summer months ... for cal mag read the product instructions but go with the more diluted mixes , I use an organic cal mag in trace amounts daily for the moment to correct some issues I noticed.... so far so good ;-)

      when feeding , feed the same way you water. 1st round opens the cell tissue of the roots 2nd and 3rd is when they will absorb more of the nutrient.

    1) I don’t use humidifier and I don’t know if I should
    2) I repot them after it flowers but they never rebloom just leaves and no blooms fertilize once a month
    3) get a lot of root rot even though I don’t water them as should

      orchids like to be potted tight, to big a pot can lead to rot as the medium may not dry quick enough for the orchid in question. I like to pot mine in wood charcoal, they love the carbon and the medium dries quickly

      Read the label for manufacturers recommendations, some you can use a trace amount daily and some are better as just a monthly addition to your feeding schedule.

      @richpeltz2044 Год назад

      I use lump charcoal that you use in a grill. Use a hammer to break large pieces and wash the dust off. But remember,..its lightweight,...so maybe put some rocks in bottom of pot.

    I have watched videos that say when watering phals ... to not let water get on the leaves because water will seep down and rot the crown and you said to water the whole plant. What do I do?

    • @orchidlife8224
      @orchidlife8224  3 года назад +1

      The leaves benefit from moisture and nutrients as well, with the shape of the leaves on a phal sometimes water can puddle, if this is happening then yes ... as long as you are watering in the morning allowing for the crown to dry before the cooler night time conditions you should be ok.... yes , phals do not need as much water as the vandas and encyclias but aslo grow in more shade.... pay close attention to where you are growing and when you are watering let the phals get there needed dry period and do your best not to disturb the roots when repotting or mounting ... :-)

    • @orchidlife8224
      @orchidlife8224  3 года назад

      As long as the phal has time to dry it will be fine, the fact the it is mounted will help.... when I mount phalanx I fix the a little sideways so water drains from the crown.... in periods of heavy rain your gonna want to use physan 20 or zeretol to get rid of topical funguses and deter black rot

    LOL love your videos but One small correction, the baby plants are called: Kei-ki, not ki-ki. Keiki is a Hawaiian word for child.
    That being said...Question: Is it better to remove some of the Keikis to propagate another plant and not suck the life from the parent? Or better to leave them on?
