Thank you Mike. I've been using Studio One since V2 and In my humble and fairly well informed opinion you have one of the most helpful Studio One content out there. You knowledge and style, combined with tight editing creates an extremely effective delivery. I'm not a trained musician and do not work with these tools every day, however I've spent thousands of hours over the last decade loving S! and I still find your videos helpful and enjoyable. This video in particular is a great example of your content. I have a love hate relationship with NI. I have some of their hardware and software and I find their UX archaic and frustrating compared to something like S1 or Arturia (my judgment, I'll own it). I absolutely love their sounds (which is why I have so many of their instruments) but not their interfaces (which is why I don't use them to the degree I could). Your walkthrough of the Kontakt setup in S1 opened up a whole new way of seeing (and appreciating) that suite of software. In my case, and aside from the antiquated NI UI that you helped demystify, the decoupled routing and naming conventions were a black box that I never took the time to explore. In 20 minutes your video kept me interested helped make thousands of $s worth of instruments more usable. As a software guy, I particular liked your "behind the scenes" context. Your show easy, show hard, show easy again approach is very effective. I'm really grateful for your channel and wish you the best of luck.
This video is a GODSEND. I was able to set up complete libraries for my two horn sample packs and now I never have to do that again. Bless you Mike, you are my hero!
Omg man, this channel is amazing! I'm starting from scratch to use DAWs (and more specifically Studio One), and it's been absolutely helpful! All the attention to the details and the didactic... Congrats man, and also thank you! 👏🏻
You're the man, Mike!!! I am a Studio One user as of last week and I know that this channel will be my go to in order to help me along with the learning curve. I'm also a Kontakt 7 user and so this video is invaluable to me. Thanks again for posting these videos!!!
This has been one of the most informative tutorials for using kontakt in studio one that I have ever seen, you've explained things so thoroughly and made it more user friendly. I'm way less confused after watching this. I've just subscribed to your channel, and look forward to learning more with your videos. Thank you
This is absolutely brilliant. As a new user of Studio One AND new to Native Instruments, this is extremely well put together where anyone can get a grasp on how to work with Kontakt in Studio One. Thanks so much, Mike! Got your channel bookmarked
wow this channel is mindblowing! as a long S1 user i'm always stuggling with kontakt.... this is such a lifesaver.. and it actually makes me understand what i'm doing !! thank you so much
I have been using Konstantinos for years and have always added multiple plugins. Thank you for teaching me this technique. Just subscribed. Thank you, Sir.
Excellent video Here's another great tip : pack your tracks into a 'folder' 'Add bus channel' from that track folder select 'Link expansion and visibility of folder tracks' this way the tracks and channels expand and contract with the Bus folders
hello, just a clarification on the configuration in kontakt in order to automatically assign a free midi channel. I searched a lot to implement it as in the video without having to do it by hand. you have to go to the "parameters" toothed wheel then in the "handling" tab and in midi channel assignment for load patch you have to choose "Assign first free". and it works. Thank you for this new video MIKE. Denis a french user who followed from Cakewalk to Studio one Artist.
Very helpful and inspiring tutorial, thanks 😊 The Factory function in Kontakt 7 is awesome! However, there is one thing I can't seem to figure out and something I have not seen in earlier versions of Studio One and Kontakt. It's rather simple, but a bit difficult to explain in writing 😊: after creating several instrument tracks, assigning them to each channel in Kontakt 7 and activating the channels in Studio One, the control part of all instrument tracks are assigned to the first output channel of Kontakt 7. This means that when I adjust a controller on any of the tracks in the track view - for instance the volumen fader, all volume faders on all tracks assigned to Kontakt 7 will move correspondingly and in the mixer in Studio One, only the first channel is affected by the control movement. In other words, if I want to lower the volume in track 2, which is assigned to output 3/4 in Kontakt, I have to do it in the mixer in Studio One on the output channel, that is assigned to channel 3/4. It is not possible for me to do it directly on the instrument track in the track view. Am I missing something very obvious?
Solved! The instrument Track Routing is hidden by default in Studio One 6. When I unhide it, I'm able to change channel for each instrument track in the Inspector, just like before 😊
Thank you for this. I've used Presonus Sphere Studio One for several years now; and I write thematic/film score music using similar libraries. I just downloaded Kontakt 7; and your video popped up for related content.
It nice to get educated in music making when the teacher is concise to the point; would out rambling on all the time. My self at 67 years young everything has to be slow with lots of time to absorb. Very good style sir…thank-you.
Thanks Mike. Your tutorials are very informative and equally entertaining. This DAW is AMAZING, but without the help you provide to navigate it, it wouldn't be as useful to me.😊
YO ... am i the only one that caught the AiO cooler in the background ...🏆wicked Sir Mike! ....yeah I was that kid in the class! Dope tutorial as usual Stay Blessed!
Very complete explainations, thanks. Not a fluid integration between Kontakt and Studio One, the output labels inside Studio One do not reflect the updated outputs inside Kontakt. But it works and you helped to understand the secrets of this.
Thank you so much. As always, a very clear and concise explanation - super useful. I would love to see a follow-up dealing with how to link keyboard controls to the functions in Kontackt - Studio One works great with most VST's but not with Kontakt (for me anyhow!). Keep up the great work - this channel is pure gold.
Hey Mike, really digging this new channel! I had never considered putting multiple instruments into a single instance of Kontakt, although I knew it was possible. What are the advantages/disadvantages to doing so? Memory usage? Processor usage? Is there there a situation where it is more advantageous to use a single instance? Or is it mostly up to personal choice? Thanks, Lou
I've been watching your videos for long long time, and now I see i'm not subscribed??? oh well, this is a new channel.. great.. I love your videos, you go into great detail explaining even the minor things which most of the other youtubers ignore to explain. Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much for this channel! Diving into Studio One after being a long time Ableton User and this channel and your other one has been SUPER helpful! :)
You a life saver, Sir" am a big fan of Studio One and NI I hope Presonus company watch this video and update or make a studio one 7 were it's automatic make and separate mini channels in Kontakt without so many steps to go thru.
Mike: Just want to say, I’m overjoyed to see this new channel! I subbed to your Cakewalk channel, but I’m getting into midi big and have been auditioning new DAWs. After Cubase crushed me (lol), I just started looking at Studio 1 and I think I’m already falling in love with it’s clarity. I wanted to watch a video to go deeper into its midi setup and found your new channel! Having you for a guide through Studio 1 has pretty much sealed the deal for me. Instant sub! Good luck with the channel. (and yes, I’m well thank you) 😊
Thanks Mike. I would never have worked this out by myself. Oddly enough, I can't get it to work in S1 6 (I can only get a maximum of two instruments) but it works fine in S1 5. It might be as simple as just doing a reboot as I've only just installed ver 6. Can I also just add that I'm always very impressed at how you manage to record the audio for these tutorials without (seemingly) doing any editing / correcting; you just talk your way through it without any pauses or fumbles! And thankfully you don't do any of these sudden cuts and zooms in the video that make me feel like the presenter is trying to headbutt me! 🙂 Once again, a tutorial on drums with seperate outputs for each would be great. Thanks again.
Thanks Angus. That is really odd, only being able to add 2 instruments. Let me know how you go. I'm glad you enjoy the videos. Sometimes getting through without mumbles and fumbles takes a few tries!
Wow! Great video. I am considering buying Native Instruments plugins. I was wondering how to integrate them into Studio One. Though I have much to learn, your video greatly jumpstarted my understanding.
Hi Mike, thanks for this lucid explanation. I roughly knew some of this, but would struggle each time I could get the meters to work, with no sound being produced. This is the most helpful video I’ve seen in the year and a half since I decided to learn how to create and produce music. I follow your Creative Sauce channel, as well; however the videos that you’ve made in this new channel are helping me a lot more (due in part to me using both SO and Kontakt and upgrading both recently). If I may make a request, it would be very helpful understanding the relationship between Kontakt and Komplete, especially when loading in multiple Kontakt instruments into SO. The main reason for this request is that the lights on Komplete Kontrol keyboards only light up the keyboard to match the colored Kontakt keyboard when Kontakt is loaded as an instrument within Komplete. Having key switches highlighted on the keyboard is very helpful to me, and is one of the reasons I opted for a KK keyboard. I suppose I could simply load Komplete and open Kontakt, get the performance down, then drag the midi onto the same Kontakt instrument in SO. It seems like there would be a way to cut out the intermediate step, but I haven’t found it. I wish I could give you multiple thumbs up for this one! Thanks!!!
Thank you, and a great suggestion. I agree, the lights are very helpful - especially for keyswitches. I tend to load instruments via Komplete when I do this TBH.
My understanding is that Komplete Kontrol is mono-timbral. So, by loading Kontakt within KK, you gain lights and knobs, but lose multi-timbrality. So, this means you can use it for 1 Kontakt instrument at a time. But if you want to load multiple instruments into Kontakt (as the 2nd half of this video is demonstrating), that needs to be done directly through Kontakt, not within the KK wrapper.
you missed one important thing at the end of "assigning outputs"... you are klicking the instrument track but the correct (2nd or 3rd) mixer-track is not selected with it... it can be solved within track-information > Routing .... if you can't see it, rightclick the (i) for trackinfo and customize the view - check "routing" box. There you can assign the correct mixer-track to the instrument track.... :D
This was an incredible video! And your voice is so calm. Thank you! Do you have any tutorial for automations with Kontakt? - I struggle to use Studio One approaches with Kontakt (especially with Orchestral libraries which have many parameters)
Thanks for this...this should save on processor use vs. opening multiple kontakt instances yes? Also, are there any advantages to using komplete control?
Mike, great video, and I'm loving the new channel! Question: What exactly is the benefit of using a single instance of Kontakt vs. separate copies? I haven't seen anyone nail this down besides the general idea that multiple copies cost more CPU. Do they really? Is there some other benefit? Thanks and rock on with the videos!
Thank you so much for this. I was wondering since I had a couple issues with Play or Opus creating multiple outputs in one instance is there somewhere someone can point me where I can learn that? As far as Kontakt, your instructions work flawlessly. Thanks Again.
Man thanks, mate. Perfect for me! But it's way to complicated in my opinion. And the colors in the mixer still don't match. Hoping for a better implementation than this. But now, I've got a very useful video about it. Thanks again!
Great video. Easy to understand and follow. Im assuming this saves CPU. Its not merging several instruments to record at the same time on 1 track but rather, the idea is 1 track and sub tracks to record seperately?
Another great video Mike! I had been using the multiple instances of Kontakt strategy due to its simplicity. Is there really a measurable CPU gain using one instance versus multiple instances?
Its actually not clear cut, since it's kind of dependant on which libraries. Personally I do it coz I like the way it's organised. But for projects with less than about 8 libraries, I usually don't bother.
This is great? Really like and enjoy your style of instruction. I learned another way to do this in Kontakt 6 from Marcus. Looks like I'll need to upgrade. QUESTION: Can you do this with Impact XT? I know I can setup multi-outs (channels) from a single instance of Impact as well as setting up multiple tracks and assign each pad to the associated channels/tracks. But I don't seem to be able to record different pads on their associated tracks without having the other pads record on the same selected track. In effect, if I am setup this way and record arm two tracks (pads) for, let's say, kik (track 1) and snare (track 2) and try to record them simultaneously, I get both pads on both tracks. I'm aware of "Explode Pitches to Tracks," but I don't like it's workflow. Would prefer to set up a template with all the pads broken out and assigned to associated outputs "and tracks". Can Impact XT work this way? If so, what am I missing?
I've gone from spending quite some time learning this way of using one instance of Kontakt 7 in Studio One and have really got it down pat. Unfortunately I did an "update" to Kontakt 7 and now I'm lost again. Everything has been changed to the point where I'm having to learn how to use Kontakt 7 all over again. Is there a way of going back to Kontakt 7 to where it was before I did the update? If not, would it be possible for Mike to do another video on this subject using the updated version of Kontakt 7? It sure would be so much appreciated by a total newb to Studio One and Kontakt 7 😁
Thanks for this great video! I am new to this and it was really helpful. One question though. What are the aux outputs (1-4) in Kontact used for? They just keep getting bumped down the line as you add new outputs, but are never actually used.
This seems to be a silly Kontakt issue, finally solved in Kontakt 7. It might be worth upgrading just for the logical consistency now! (Presumably, Auxes would be used within Kontakt as Auxes -- routing internal effects. But assigning Auxes as outputs which then move over and create actual outputs, while in S1 still being called Auxes... Ahhhh! So messy! Kontakt 7 moves beyond the madness, finally.)
Love the information. Question. When raising volume in the track view all the kontakt instrument go up as one. Channel view they are separated but in track view I slide volume up or down in one they are all tied together. Super annoying and do you have a fix? Thanks.
Hi Mike, thank you for what you do. I learnt a lot from this video however there is one thing that I’m stuck on. I have downloaded all the Presonus Symphony Orchestra instrument files onto my SSD and can access them through Notion however how do I get them into Kontakt? I can only see the Kontakt sounds and instruments and some other 3rd party ones but don’t know how to get Kontakt to see specific files. Hope you can help. Cheers, Geoff
Great video Mike. I currently subscribe to the East West Composer Cloud. Your video has me interested in Kontakt which I have never used before. Any thoughts on how the sound libraries compare and whether a Kontakt subscription would be a better value?
It's a tricky question Steve, as there are some good libraries in East West, si it depends on if there are some you are attached to. On the other hand, there are many more Kontakt libraries made by 3rd parties which are 1st class (Eg Spitfire). As a system though, I personally prefer Kontakt/Komplete.
I’m trying to switch to S1 from Pro Tools and it’s interesting because some things are much easier in S1 and smarter and then some stuff seems really weirdly designed to me in S1, after 20 years of pro tools.
Hi Mike, when using midi in studio one would I just connect my keyboard to my audio interface like I would be recording ? And after doing the steps you have shown, the keyboard will automatically connectd to the midi instruments ? Sorry if its a dumb question I haven't ever used midi functions before. Thx
Thank you. May I ask you a favor? Could you please give a very easy lecture on the "Sound Variations" of bass instruments. I really don't know how to do the Slide, Pull-on, effect. From Korean Fans.
Hi Mike, I like to transform some of my tracks to audio tracks, however, it seems like when I have multiple instruments loaded under “one” Kontakt, this is not possible. Any thoughts? Thank you very much✨
Hi Mike.Great Channel New Subscriber here 😀 Being New To both Studio One 6 And Kontakt 7 I've managed the "Basics" so far : Recorded Vocals,Kontakt Instruments etc ! With My Korg X50. However really stuggling on how to record the "Progression" Loops Within Sunburst Acoustic( Kontakt 7) These loops are fantastic for giving you new ideas for new songs These loops are triggered from Kontakt's onscreen keyboard. I'm getting an Input signal On the Mixer, yet when I press record i'm getting no input signal to the track. I'm obviously doing something wrong but can't figure out what; Your advise would be greatly appreciated.
Can you help me to understand why you would do this? I have always just added multiple Kontakt instruments and have never bundled them together. Each trumpet has its own kontakt channel and instrument. Does this method save memory or loading times?
I just wanted to echo other's comments about helpful your videos are. It's always the little details that can confuse a person and you hit on those details everytime.
Hi Mike. 🥰 How are you my far away RUclips friend? I can see you have a new channel dedicated stricty to Studio One. This would explain why I didnt watch your content in a very long time. Good to see you again. I am back in to music work because I finally bought a computer that handle audio without latency. Well tiny 1.5ms latency even with heavy plugin load. Latency was driving me crazy. Even when I cut the buffer to lowest possible levels I was getting arounf 16ms on the older computer. My ear could not hear the latency but my brain picked it up. 16ms is enough to make you feel bad and feel sometimes sick. I almost gave up. My bran was picking up that 16 ms latency and refused to cooperate. sudenly i could not hear the takt, and I was way off. My brain after just one line refused to cooperate when there was 16ms latency. It sounds crazy but, latency is a hughe problem even if it is so low that we cannot hear it. New computer fixed that problem, and I dont need to upgrade to thunderbolt audio interface. New AMD Ryzen 5 7500F AM5 cpu with insanely fast PCIe ver5 M.2 SSD and 7400Ghz ram brings latency to as low as 1-1.5ms on regular USB 2.0 audio interface. And the whole thing is very cheap for a behemoth of a music making monster computer like that, because I only payed 600 dollars for whole bundle (motherboard, CPU, RAM, Cooler, SSD) when it all dumped prices around 50% between Christmass and new year, but over all these computers are insanely cheap to build. No this is not a sponsored comment to any clown thinking that. Just saying that all the latency thing can now be fixed and it is cheap.

I'm also a Kontakt 7 user and so this video is invaluable to me.
Thanks again for posting these videos!!!
Seen a lot of videos regarding this.
Everyone makes it so complicated,
But, your just one video, made all the methods cleared. Lots of Love.
Thank you! I'm pleased to hear that :)

I have been using Konstantinos for years and have always added multiple plugins. Thank you for teaching me this technique. Just subscribed. Thank you, Sir.
Reluctantly just joined the Kontact club so videos like this are hugely helpful to me. 😎
Excellent video
Here's another great tip :
pack your tracks into a 'folder'
'Add bus channel' from that track folder
select 'Link expansion and visibility of folder tracks'
this way the tracks and channels expand and contract with the Bus folders
A life saver...finally a tutorial that is clear and precise! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!
Excellent tutorial! Very thorough , could have saved me tons of time when I was first learning. I still picked up stuff watching this. Thank you!
Your videos are great. Very clear and well presented !

Very helpful explanation of Kontakt. This really helped! Thanks so much for what you do!
wow this is crazy, learned something here
thanks really good tutorial and clear .....

you missed one important thing at the end of "assigning outputs"... you are klicking the instrument track but the correct (2nd or 3rd) mixer-track is not selected with it... it can be solved within track-information > Routing .... if you can't see it, rightclick the (i) for trackinfo and customize the view - check "routing" box. There you can assign the correct mixer-track to the instrument track.... :D
Where?
Great tutorial. Thank you sir
Thanks and very well explained !
Super helpful! Subscribed!
Bravo sir ... great content I'm subbed and a power user of studio one since s1three
This was an incredible video! And your voice is so calm. Thank you!
Do you have any tutorial for automations with Kontakt? - I struggle to use Studio One approaches with Kontakt (especially with Orchestral libraries which have many parameters)
Nicely done Mike ,-)
Great tutorial!
thank you for that kinda video !!!
Thanks for this...this should save on processor use vs. opening multiple kontakt instances yes? Also, are there any advantages to using komplete control?
thank you Sensei, subbed
Mike, great video, and I'm loving the new channel! Question: What exactly is the benefit of using a single instance of Kontakt vs. separate copies? I haven't seen anyone nail this down besides the general idea that multiple copies cost more CPU. Do they really? Is there some other benefit? Thanks and rock on with the videos!
interesting question. The answer is some lines down.
that's so usefull! thanks!!!
And a realized, that the loudness changing visualization is only working in the mixer, and not in the track, that I created.
Excellent!!! Thank you!!!
My pleasure!
Great video. Easy to understand and follow. Im assuming this saves CPU. Its not merging several instruments to record at the same time on 1 track but rather, the idea is 1 track and sub tracks to record seperately?
Thanks for this tutorial Sir, this means your pc will not overworked due to many instruments?
Another great video Mike! I had been using the multiple instances of Kontakt strategy due to its simplicity. Is there really a measurable CPU gain using one instance versus multiple instances?
Its actually not clear cut, since it's kind of dependant on which libraries. Personally I do it coz I like the way it's organised. But for projects with less than about 8 libraries, I usually don't bother.
What camera are you using, it looks amazing
Well done Mike!! Ty. Curious, is there a way to create a "Track Preset" for multi instrument / single Kontakt instances?
Awesome video! Where can I get the instruments you used in the video?
I need to use "select track activates rec/monitor" or whatever it's called, watching you scoot around rang a bell ...thanks!!
Ah yes - sometimes mostly useful - sometimes not! Which is probably why you switched it off :)
Thanks.
Thanks Mike. What do you do when you need to add an insert(s) to one or more of the Kontakt channels and then you what to rendered them?
awesome thx ❤
Masterful.
Thank you very much✨
Hi Mike.Great Channel
New Subscriber here 😀
Being New To both Studio One 6 And Kontakt 7
I've managed the "Basics" so far :
Recorded Vocals,Kontakt Instruments etc ! With My Korg X50.
However really stuggling on how to record the "Progression" Loops Within Sunburst Acoustic( Kontakt 7)
These loops are fantastic for giving you new ideas for new songs
These loops are triggered from Kontakt's onscreen keyboard.
I'm getting an Input signal On the Mixer, yet when I press record i'm getting no input signal to the track.
I'm obviously doing something wrong but can't figure out what;
Your advise would be greatly appreciated.
