13:00 In the hacking community there are "white hat" , "black hat" and "grey hat" hackers. The kids in this movie are all grey hats that hack for the love of the game and respect...and a bit of revenge. They aren't black hats hacking for financial gain or to hurt some innocent person/entity. They also aren't white hat as they aren't hacking to show an entity how bad their security is or purely to help people. They're grey in that they do some bad stuff but it isn't for their own financial gain or just to hurt others. Their targets are also usually bad dudes or corporations. They go after those they feel are wronging them or innocent people. It's a whole thing you plebs could never understand. Ur not 1337. Signed, DraxTheCypher69
The free phones calls and the not being able to use phones or computers is directly from early hacker trials. But if you didn’t know that which literally nobody did then or now, it sounds totally insane. Great episode.
The only accidents driverless cars have been in are caused by other cars driven by humans, if you don’t count all the accidents that were caused by driverless cars of course
The books scene were actually used by hackers in NYC and the names for them. Much of this movie was well researched. Watch JoBlo's video. The fact everyone keeps talking about how many computers Zero Cool crash is to show who is part of the community and who isn't. The Hackers knows the exact number 1507 but everyone else just says 1500.
This is more of a commentary of those who aren't in tech, especially in the 90s. Phreaking was a big deal, I remember having a mini tape recorder with tones like this to call my parents from school. That all got fixed eventually, but was very real.
Those actually are the most used passwords. People are stupid. Edit: In the 90s. Some of the most common passwords were 123456, password, qwerty, letmein, shadow, baseball, football, dragon, 123321, and abc123.
Disappointed there was no mention of Marc Anthony in this movie. Just sliding into the party under cover, 21 Jump Street style. And how he kind of seemed to be on the side of the Hackers. Skip 36 mins to 41 mins. They talk about candy, and more specifically chewing gum, and then vaping for 5 minutes. Not related to the movie, just candy bars, gum & vape talk. The rest was hilarious.
No, the other kids on the roof were bird watching or something, that's why the door was propped open. Jonny Lee let the door close, which fucked them and him... because he didn't realize that the door was ajar for a reason.

Funny Matthew Lillard’s hacker name was Cereal Killer and the next year he would be Stu Macher in Scream.
Whats its mission
Oh my god. I just got there. 😂
I actually remember the show Dream on. It was 8 year old me's intro to boobies on Tv!
Omg that My So Called Life comment was dead on! Shout out Rayanne

Just skip to 47:00.
😂
Leave your modem at the door and prepare for some real garbage
This discussion is lacking so much in terms of basic modern hacking acumen that it is more "funny-because-its-bad" than Hackers itself.
Hacked.
