How To Install a Maytag® Over the Range Microwave

Installing an over-the-range microwave is a two-person job that can be accomplished with a few tools, precautions, and your installation instructions. Use this ten-step guide as a general overview.
Step 1: Unplug the range and slide away from work area
Step 2: Remove the mounting plate. Depending on your model, the mounting plate may be attached to the back of the microwave or placed in foam packaging.
Step 3: Locate and mark the center of your wall studs. The microwave needs at least one wall stud for installation, but two are ideal. If wall studs are not present, do not install the microwave above the range.
Step 4: Apply the template to the wall. Align center markings on the template to stud lines on the wall. Mark the two drill holes in the lower corners, and draw a horizontal line along the bottom edge of the template.
Step 5: Drill holes in the rear wall at each bottom corner and stud locations
Step 6: Attach the mounting plate to the wall
Step 7: Prepare the upper cabinet and cut the power cord hole
Step 8: Lift microwave and place it onto the mounting plate
Step 9: Thread power cord through the hole in the upper cabinet and insert bolts to tighten until the microwave is flush with the cabinet.
Step 10: Plug in your microwave and enjoy!
