Cause most rock bands are all musicians, even the singer, they don't use computers to make music, they use instruments so they write usually before they make the music then the music is molded around the lyrics and the feeling they're going for. A rap beat for the most part pretty much tells you what the feel of the lyrics need to be

I love how the captions are just like [Music]. I think the best thing about all of these bands is that they weren't afraid to experiment with their sound and push the envelope but also they are just great human beings. David Draiman has stopped shows before to make sure someone that fell in the pit was okay. If they were POS people, their bands got dropped by the fans long before it was ever called cancel-culture. We held the artists to the same standards they were instilling in us.

The 90's redefined what rock music is. from the late 60's though to the early 2000's is full of great rock bands across 50+ years... The rabbit hole is massive. Your journey has only just started. With well over a 1,000+ rock bands all very different in their own way. Just waiting for you to discover them... NU Metal or NU Rock is the ideal cross over from Rap to Rock. It makes sense why you enjoy it so much. But it's the massive root's of rock music as a whole that will draw you in deeper and deeper, maybe even to a point that you may not return from it. I hope you continue this journey...

Viewing rock & metal reactors loving & embracing the full body spectrum of these genres warms my heart 1000%. These bands are not only getting their true credit they deserve for some of the best sounding music around, but it's dispelling the notion that these musicians are just bubble-headed, devil worshiping druggies making loud noises. They're talented beyond their years & share their inner most feelings through their music. More importantly, the subject matter they cover is relatable to all walks of life & makes a difference in people's lives. Rock on, Nat, & enjoy the ride my friend.

Hey! Thanks for that one! I, along with all the others that suggested it, really appreciate it.
You mentioned missing the lyrics on these songs. Don't sweat it. Some rock songs have great lyric, some others mundane, but rock is different from rap in that--as you'll find as you continue down this path--rock lyrics are based in poetry and so are meant to have somewhat open meanings for you to add your own imagery from. I'm 61 y.o. and way back in the mid 70s when I first started listening to music seriously, we didn't have music videos, many times the only chance you had to hear a song was on your FM radio (not always the greatest resolution) or--if you had the money--you could go out and buy an album or single from a music store but even then the lyrics weren't always included.
So most of the time you just listened to the music and the vocals but rarely knew all the lyrics. In fact many songs you could only make out a few words, but even this tiny bit was enough to allow your imagination to build on this sampling of lyrics adding to and stimulating your own meaning of the song. The imagery and meaning of so many songs in my mental library are full of these vivid visions my imagination cooked up and the same thing I'm sure goes for everyone else who was listening to music at the time. And believe me, nine out of ten times I far preferred what I saw in my mind's eye--and even many times the meanings I applied to them--to that of some bizarre artsy-fartsy videographer's warped concepts that ended up embossed in everyone's minds with the advent of music videos--never to be shaken away.
Listening to rock music allows each person to add a part of themselves to the song making it an individual, personalized composition made only for that person listening. And one of the funny things was that even if we had the lyrics on hand, we may have read them once but somehow we never let it interfere with our own visions; and funnier still, we never even bothered asking our friends about their own ideas. It was almost like that would be too intimate or something.
So you're doing a great job when you listen to these songs. You complain about knowing only little of what they're saying, but you're experiencing the music in the way I still believe it was meant to be heard. Just let the music and vocals take you away, use whatever lyrics you might make out to add to the journey, and make the song your own. And yes, many times the video is going to take away from that. All I can say is, if it's a "concept video," try to pass. If the video is just of the band playing at a concert (whether actual or created to seem like it) go ahead and watch it. To some degree it will still allow the imagery to come forth in your own mind. And after all, today doing music reactions, I suppose most people want to have a visual to go with the music. But even a concert video will interfere to some degree with a person's natural inclination to create their own landscapes.
(If you happen to take my advise and react to Tool's 46&2, luckily there is only the most rudimentary video that goes with it.)

They’re building on a tradition that goes back to the 1960s. That’s when rock really took off. You had everything from Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, etc. A lot of the things they come up originate in jam sessions, dreams (the opening riff of the Stones “Satisfaction” being a prime example), or just sitting around trying things out on a guitar, piano, or whatever instrument is around. Someone might come up with a hook and not be sure what to do with it, play it for a friend and that friend will get an idea, try something that includes that hook, and it just goes from there. A lot of the great rock musicians were (and are, like David Draiman of Disturbed), classically trained musicians who have a deep well of knowledge to draw upon.

I feel like the main issue when it comes to hip hop and other genres is that hip hop in general is way more scrutinized and critiqued in the eyes of society, if a rapper doesn't sound a particular way or doesn't rap about certain things they are automatically considered trash, also hiphop at least in my opinion relies on lyrical content ( or lack thereof) much more than other genres, also I feel like hiphop is influenced by trends way more than every other genre

Quick suggest from a shiny new sub. A 4 member group outa The Ukraine that pioneered the metal scene in that country over a decade ago. Their name is JINJER and please don’t spoil yourself one bit on this one. You’ll thank me later dog. Keep it up!
