James burtom great guitarist..I hope that God helps him to get better from this illness and that God gives strength to his children and wife to endure all this...I really like his style I even bought a personalized telecaster..,Brazil
And the lowly bass player singing the third part harmony was....?... I always did seem to have that certain nothing that everybody remembers. :-) That was a FUN week and a fine hillbilly reunion. Glen was totally responsible and certainly did put the spotlight on Country Music more than anyone working out of Hollywood in the 70's. The boy's from Arkansas fer Pete's sake! I'd love to have a copy of that whole hour show. I think that was one of the shows Mel Tillis was on as well. What a sweetheart. We had a good time for 120 shows that aired weekly for four years between '69 and '72. (We toured the world during the off seasons) Some TV channel should be airing all of those shows. There was always something in them for everybody. Cheers!! Billy C. Graham....Nashville, TN.
Dear Mr. Graham .. great seeing you and having fun on a show that you help to make so great. I will be sending an autograph request to you this week. I bought a signed piece of sheet music to a song that you wrote for Glen to sing on the Good Time Hour. God Bless You sir -- you are the real deal Matthew 6:19 Your Friend from San Diego Roger Cheristensen
What was Glen's personality like then? His life seems so curious now. Didn't finish high school, grew up in rural Arkansas, went to New Mexico at 15, yet plays a jazzy guitar and turns what could be hifalutin pop like Jimmy Webb into mainstream hits. His sound anticipated Steely Dan as much as it did anything country. Musically, he had really good taste. He could throw in some licks and yet not muck up a melody, or use his falsetto at just the right time. I wonder what he might have done if he'd esteemed himself more of an important artist.
As a very young Sonny Loden knocking around his native Alabama, he played fiddle. Back in the late 1960s-early '70s, he'd play a fiddle tune or two in his live shows.
I especially like Larry jumping on that 4 chord a bit early and the face he makes!! So humanising to see these unbelievable players have the odd hiccup ❤
My old-time band used to do this tune, I played doghouse or mandolin and sung Glenn's part (also, romped my foot on the two and the four). Never failed to bring the house down. College kids from the midwest LOVE WV-style Appalachia...
There you have two of the greatest & best guitar players there ever was. It's just missing Roy Clark, then you'd have the 3 finest, greatest & best guitar strummers there ever was. Enough said!
Oh, yeah. James is a great Dobro player. He played on the Buffalo Springfield track, "A Child's Claim to Fame" as well as those Rick Nelson Decca country LPs.
You just catch a quick glimpse of the drummer but he looks like one of the drummers who used to play with Rick Nelson and James Burton on Ozzie & Harriet.
I prefer to think of Elvis as the singer who accompanied James Burton. Keith Richards has often said he never bought a Rick Nelson record. Always just bought James Burton records where Rick happened to be the singer. Those cats are cool bit they can't touch James.
@@scottlord3289 Keith Richards was an Elvis Presley fan. I don't think he would have said it about Elvis. James Burton was of course a great guitarist. But Elvis had many great musicians under contract, all of whom were minor celebrities in their fields before they came to Elvis Presley. Elvis himself also had many talents. James Burton once said: "Elvis was a good guitar player!"
Wow,what brilliant musicians and singers they are.And let it look all so easy.

The amount of talent in this clip is mindblowing. Holy Moses!
Crazy, 3 of arguably the top 10 guitar players of all time are sitting there!
Sonny might have made it four. Eric Clapton is a big fan of his.
Dang your dead on.

Not lowly at all, Bill C... loved you many contributions through those years!
Bill, totally loved you're great playing , singing and songwriting. I really wish those old shows were available.
Oh I totally agree. The Goodtime Hour is a treasure! I'm waiting for the day it would all be aired again or come out on dvd.

Alot of talent in one place.
Burton, Reid and Glen = WOW!

James Burton🎸
August 21, 2019
Have mercy. That brought tears.
"Historic Films" is a proper characterization of this group of players. Some of the greatest of all times.
3 guitar Gods!
Good golly Ms. Molly!!! Campbell, Reed, and Burton on the same stage!!! The guitar talent on this stage is beyond measure!!! ☮️🖖🏽
Glen, Jerry and the incredible James Burton all together. So amazing.
This will make you smile.
I had never heard Sonny James play fiddle ...man he is really great !!!!

You were my favorite of all time RIP gentle on my mind
Oh my goodness. Sir James on dobro! Never knew he played one, but why should I be surprised? Great get together that was!
You need to listen to Rick's mid-60s country albums as James plays amazing dobro on them. Here is one: ruclips.net/video/txPQCYized0/видео.html
James played dobro on this Buffalo Springfield cut.

Mind blown.
James Burton on dobro : rare on youtube buit great with Merle Haggard's songs. Thanks for this video.
Great Music from back when I was in the USAF. Music was GREAT back then --- do we have anything like this on TV these days ????? Roger C.
That is a stage full of heavy hitters!
all that talent together on one stage. brilliant!
I especially like Larry jumping on that 4 chord a bit early and the face he makes!! So humanising to see these unbelievable players have the odd hiccup ❤
A lot of great talent here..
James Burton is so happy to be there so special. Thanks for sharing this.
When TV was great, not like the trash today.
James Burton already played with Elvis when this was filmed, crazy that he even had time.
Elvis kept him busy.
He played with pretty much everybody who was anybody, and routinely helped make their performance greater.
Since 69'
Worth the Burton break alone!
My old-time band used to do this tune, I played doghouse or mandolin and sung Glenn's part (also, romped my foot on the two and the four). Never failed to bring the house down. College kids from the midwest LOVE WV-style Appalachia...
What a superb group! OMG. mos60
That kind of people were amazingly perfect. It is indirect confidence that men of that times were able to fly and walk on the Moon.
Never saw James play the dobro before
ABSOLUTELY STUPENDOUS... LOVE IT. XX
Them some good boys right there y’all . Some back porch a-pickin . Ole JerReed was one hail of a gitar picker hiseff
Ahhh .
Wow
Oh my! That's the real deal!

Sonny James is a fine fiddler!
Is that Larry McNeely on banjo?
I really didn't know JB could render like that on the dobro.
I'm in shock. Just wow
So Iconic.💯💯🇺🇸🇺🇸
Funny thing is, Glen could have just as easily picked up the banjo himself.
Did the break a little differently, took a few liberties with the lyrics, but a truly GREAT performance.
The best! 😂
James Burton on there
👍🙂❤️
James Burton?
James burton Elvis’s guitar player

Who is the bass player ????
Bill Graham
Wheer is James Burton?
Dick Buelow I think he is sitting between Jerry and Larry in the white shirt
open your friggin eyes
James is the Dobro player sitting between McNeely and Reed.
Jerry Reed is the best musician on that stage but he loved to just ham it up and have a good time instead of soloing especially in the 70’s
Very good, but I liked it better when done by the father of Bluegrass, Bill Monroe and his Bluegrass boys.
I like it better by Del McCoury and Ricky Skaggs
Very rudimentary players just trying to pick out a tune
