When guitarist of Queen & Rolling Stones pay homage & respect to you, Mr.James Burton, you are CREAM de la CREAM of guitar players.Elvis would be so proud, looking down from Heaven ❤❤❤
Scotty Moore, Chuck Berry, Cliff Gallup, Buddy Holly and James Burton were the guys who wrote the rules for rock and roll guitar playing back in the 1950s. Here we are in 2023 and James is the last man standing- 70 years on from when he began playing in public- an unparalleled accomplishment and a remarkable musician who inspired all the greatest British rock guitarists.
Before all of them was the godmother of rock and roll. Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Check her out. Chuck Berry said, my entire career was just one long impersonation of Sister Rosetta Tharpe.
@@Amen.22 Yes, I agree- I know her stuff she is extremely important. The players I mentioned became the influences for the many who came later and they all had their influences- Burton mentions Chet Atkins and Lightnin' Hopkins. People forget that Chet Atkins played ground breaking guitar in the early 50s- Scotty Moore was a fan of his while Atkins was influenced by George Barnes as well as Merle Travis. Many of these players were influenced by Charlie Christian, T-Bone Walker and Les Paul and none of them existed in a vacuum and their various influences could be heard on certain radio shows- so, Junior Barnard who played for Bob Wills was another. The guitarists I mentioned all ended up playing on million selling records and their contributions to rock and roll guitar basically wrote the rulebook for a decade or so but it is fair to say, that James Burton kept raw and innovative rock and roll guitar playing on hit records well into the 1960s when the new wave of players took off.

What I enjoy most about seeing something like this is watching these great musicians turn into teenagers with their enthusiasm. James is just a treasure. Another clip I just love of James Burton is when he was performing in the studio with Rick Nelsons twin sons, Matthew and Gunnar. The joy on their faces is amazing. You could tell it was very special for James also. Thanks for everything James!!

Always great to see legends but thsi time awesome to see Arielle playimg with her heroes and being invited by them to perform along with her friend Brian - what an awesome night and exposure for such a talented artist she is and what a great night she had with friends and idols - finally performing in the spotlight where she deserves as well- Thanks James and Bri fro having her on.

Keef & Woody when they played with Muddy, Beck & his Scotty Moore and of course Clapton and Buddy Guy. Respect to ALL🌟
Great to see him bouncing back and still kicking/playing.🎸 He had a very rough 2022. He had Covid last summer, they found cancer in a kidney, surgery to remove the kidney, then he fell and broke a hip. That’s one tough dude standing there👍. I’m sure Ricky , Merle, Elvis , and John are all patting him on the back right now. Rock on James.🎸🎸
Brilliant.. Love when great musicians respect other great musicians, how it should be! You can't beat the old-school guys..All got their own styles 👍😎🏴🇬🇧
Hi James, happy birthday. I saw you in Laa an der Thaya in Austria and was able to say a few words to you and take a picture together. I will forever remember being able to get to know such a great person and musician as you personally. God bless you.
I had ZERO idea that James was healthy enough to do this! Just months ago we were wondering if he would ever leave the hospital alive. This is great news!
I was 14 years old in 1980 and had just stood in front of Queen for nearly three hours. And after the show i was standing behind the old Seattle Center Coliseum and Brian May walked out of the backstage door and up to a group of about six of us so were standing around. What a night.

Having James Burton in his band was what set Ricky Nelson apart from the other “teen idols” of the ‘50s. That and his incredible vocals, his uncanny ability to pick fantastic songs, and his genuine love of rock and roll, rockabilly and R&B. He was definitely one of the best.

When you look at the old video with RIcky Nelson doing this song it was easy to see how great and natural he was and shared such a rapport with the Nelson family. Kids need to see that video to see how unassuming JAmes and Ricky were.A handsome guy singing so easily and a fantastic guitarist backing him in the original way of a 4 piece band with a lead singer. That was why we oldies were so taken with Rock n Roll. And they said it wpuldnt last!! aka Don Everley at the reunion concert at the Albert Hall. Brian MAy knows his rock history as good as anyone and the "bowing down" is genuine and heartfelt. Wonderful. The oldies get older but their unique talent continues until the body can no longer do it Recover well James Burton. RIcky and Elvis arent ready to welcome you to Heaven just yet.
James! Keith Richards said he didn’t buy Ricky Nelson records.. he bought James Burton records.. BTW the lyrics of ‘hello Marylou’mwere written almost in their entirety by Gene Pitney.
Yes, but Queen only did half of that song as part of a rock ‘n roll oldies medley they did on the Magic tour :) (*and Brian would sign one line on lead as well ;) )
