Lyrics:
My sister, my sister, tell me what the trouble is
I'll try to listen good and give the best advice that I can give
so, what's up with you this time?
Your honey took a dive and now he's playin with your mind?
Oh no, this can not be accepted
The feelings that belong to you must be protected
Hold up, time out, I shout, get it together sister
Tell him to be nice or ditch the mister
It's a shame, the way you mess around with my heart
It's a shame, the way you, hurt me!
Get back on your feet please
I'm beggin you to check out all your own needs
Don't let nobody see you in a state of grievin, over the brother
there's another possibility
Which is for you to work out where you went wrong
I guarantee to you that it will not take long
For you to make your mind up if the two of you belong
You know where honey's head at, and where he's comin from
Get it out your system, don't be another victim
This took the nerve, oh boy, he really picked em, whaddya know
It's time for you to show you're not sleepin
A progress report on the two of you, you're keepin
Peekin through the peephole, to see if honey's sneakin
You estimated right, that night the other weekend
Collectively the facts should conclude the decision
You caught the brother in a terrible disposition
It's a shame, the way you mess around with my heart
It's a shame, the way you, hurt me!
That's it, pack it up, be wise my sister
cause the facts keep stackin up, tell him, to kiss the you know what
Make sure the door is shut, behind you
I do believe the brother's out of luck, and stuck
But that's not, your P-are-O-be -L-E-M
You gotta let him go and let him know this is the end
You've been kissed, dissed, listed as a dumb one
I hope he likes sad songs, he's gonna hum one
He's been a dumb dumb and that's the way it is forever
There comes a time, when you're at the end of your tether
and you know, I think you went FAR beyond that
So it was bound to backtrack
And smack you with an irksome vengeance as it attacks you
Makin sure you get the full entire view
of who's to blame, at the end, of the game
Things will never be the same
And it's a cryin shame
It's a shame, the way you mess around with my heart
It's a shame, the way you, hurt me!

It’s a shame how far down the shitter mainstream hip hop has gone. But at least we get a breath of fresh air from classics like this
Let's Not forget to thank Queen Latifah for giving showing Monie to the world

Class Act! I loved that movie. My friend and I watched it every day after school in tenth grade. Back when life was simple and fun. Sigh.

@Gildedbutterfly1976 she is also the real rapper behind the song Show Me How To Dance released in 1990 by The Bingoboys!🤗🧐🙏👍
I wish 2023 sounded like this

I wish ♾️ sounded like this
A young strong lady who helped me fend off the ugliness of my relationships listening to her music made me the strong woman I am today straight up. She made me realize my value and worth and to never settle for less..A pioneer of her generation long live her positive and strong lyrics Forever Monie❤❤❤
I totally agree. She said it how it was. Shows great strength to stand up to a bully of a partner

That's why I'm here!
Best yr

Word when Play was tryna teach Kid how to dance😂😂😂😂
I just made a comment about class act
This is real Rap Music
This is a phenomenally underated track. Takes me back to the days when hip hop and house were everything. In Britain anyway, where Monie's from.
That's what I came here to say! Underrated track! It's ear candy! I've always had a special fondness for Monie Love😊 and her rhythmic flow!
It's always a treat to hear this one.
When you grew up during the golden era hip hop and rnb (late 80s-mid 90s) songs like these are almost like breathing. I’m a 46 yr old middle aged white guy with two children. When I listen to classics like this, I’m transported almost to another world. Memories of great times and friends-Sports, music and girls/friendships was life back then as an adolescent. Hip hop from era transcends time and space. This is the original version which I always like more than remix’s Thanks Monie-you are a legend

Props to Monie Love one of a very few UK MCs who got respect in the home of hip hop, she was royalty out there for a bit too!

Yes indeed!

Hahahaha yup

Man I’m the defest brother on the block!
My kids love Monie Love. They want someone like her in the charts now. No gimmicks, just pure talent.
That just mean Mona did her job...
No gimmicks? She's English pretending to be American.
SethMcFartlane you don’t have to be so technical lol Laura was just admiring Monie’s rhymes and I agree with her. I miss songs like this too
Amazing dope classic music
Weeks later she got exposed
I love Monie love and this song! Timeless classic!
How does this not have a million views it doesn’t make sense it never will
I'm also wondering 🤔😚😚😚
The element of happiness and joy and freedom is what’s missing from modern day music. Simpler times.
Happy Birthday to The Goddess Emcee Monie Love.
This is STILL pure gold.
Facts
London girl done well 🇬🇧
This song just popped up in my head today the melody&the hook this generation will never get the music we were raised up on and by the way I’m a 80s baby 💯🔥
Same here and I had to look for it😂

Yes, Monie Love could flow rhymes flawlessly
FLAWLESS!
I heard this once on Living Color TV show and have never forgot it
Straight from a great movie "Class Act 1992 By Kid n Play
God damn the nineties do not disappoint. Feel like I'm never going to stop finding gold from old school hip hop
Little man stole the show in this video with the dancing. One of my favorite songs all time, classic.
Back when hip hop was fresh and culture
This was a great album . I love the OG ladies of hip hop. No profanity, positive encouragement
The fact it’s 2021 and I’m just now finding out she ain’t even from America lol that’s crazy she is the first British female hip hop artist.
Just like slick rick. They are both from London with Jamaican roots.
Hey. I just said the same. Had no idea until i heard her on a podcast from last year. I'm 44.
@@SaritaLovesLiving ikr lol
@@RicoSoprano_ bro you just hipped me 😂😂. Damn I’m 35 and never knew this
And it was produced by two white guys from Birmingham, England, but what a record!
When Hip Hop had a message of positive from a negative
I am almost 40, Thanks Monie Love for the timeless memories 👋
If she was rapping today the way she flow she'll be a rap star.
Nah people don't like this type of hip hop
@@NorthPhilly-zr7xc Because it's dated.
@@AnastasiaLUVSU no it's cuase she rapping about positive things and not hoes things
@@NorthPhilly-zr7xc But the rap style is dated. Nobody raps in that form anymore. It's very late 80s early 90s.
@@AnastasiaLUVSU yea I agree from her flow and everything, and she using slang like sistas and brother's
Just the kind of Hip-Hop I love - one that makes communities stronger, not destroys them
Don't wanna sound old but this is from a time when music was music. I'm just about to hit 50 and the 80-90 were the best.
Haha, I can relate though I'm just 36 next Monday. I don't listen to new shit, this is thousand times better.
Same here, my cut off point was late 90s, then record moguls started to dictate what hip hop should look and sound like. Still good stuff out there but you have to go independent.
@@darganx you not lying after 99 hip hop took a turn for the worst
@@darganx you ever heard jcole and kendrick?

@@chloestreeter3295 thank you for helping to keep old music alive
Yup!
Old good days when rap was real
One of the most underrated of all 90's hiphop IMHO
Monie Love really had it going on... and she's still keeping it real in Atlanta... big up to you my gal🎉
Monie, love deserves her respect and credit
Really this type of hip hop is missing in today's hip hop.
Oldies but Goodies.

It's a shame...that they don't make it like this no mo.....
❤ 2023. Still have this on weekly.
Happy 50yrs of Hip-Hop monie.

Ine of the best female rappers to have cime from the uk.
You are a fundamental and game changer. 💯💥💥💥💥💥💥🙏💃
This brought tears to my eyes yo this era is me especially with the kids dancing lol me all over again
I remember when Hip Hop and House met during those years!
Hip house was a movement.
This comment is huge. Hip Hop and House. I never made the connection
Love hip house
88-90 was the sweet spot for hip house. Magical time I can only equal it to the late 60s must have been like when different music fused together to create a next sound.
@@darganx absolutely right, those years 88 thru 90 where very important in Hip Hop the sound was changing an Culminated after Ice Cube left NWA an went an worked with Hank Shocklee an the Bomb squad from Public Enemy, that’s what I call the, Merger, when West Coast an East Coast collaborated, after this the music style changed into what is 90’s Hop Hip, a lot of anti drug, anti Establishment type music, which is why at the end of the 90’s real Hip Hop got pulled off the radio an got replaced with the Bullshit you hear on there now.
Yeah, it was all squidged in together and it was massive in Britain. White people as well as black. Best time for music.
One of the most underrated MCs of Hip Hop.
She was so underrated,at the time, hands down the best female MC,but she never got her props
Memories 80s. I was sooooo young 😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥
Monie Love and Slick Rock were the major British Americans hip hop artists that had success in the 80s and 90s. UK had a nice stream of artists that had success over here during that time frame. Back II Life will never not get played as long as I'm breathing lol
my girl joyce simms singing the hook. yasssss hunni
is that right? i thought it was a group called true image
"Blade Brown Ya azzz Is Miiiine"
I forgot about this one. It was a good song then and still now better than today rap.
Ahhh, this brings me back. Let’s go back and stay.
This that feel good music right here
I Love her cover. She does the original super justice!!! Early British rapper❤️❤️❤️
Know you want to talk about underrated rappers, Monie Love would be the poster child for underrated rappers! She was way before her time.
From a time when the music industry didn't push sex drugs and brothers cussin brothers
The truth. I reminisce alot on the 90s I'm a 88 baby, but I grew up hearing nun but real true music I miss it
You sound stupid so many music especially after the 80s pushed sex drugs and 100% cussing especially by the time this song was out. This was just one of the good ones surrounded by a handful of gangster, dirty rap. This wasn't 1969
Lmao 90’s was all about drugs and sex thou
There was never a time when the music industry wasn’t shady!
@@edwimliberal2562 lol 90s babies lookin back with rose tented glasses.don’t worry,EVERY generation does this.the young bloods now will do the same to the next ten of music lol

It's a shame Todays Rap is NOT as GOOD AS OLSKOOL... YEAH
London girl rappers invented this hip hop house style - Monie Love, Betty Boo, Wee Papa Girls, Neneh Cherry and Leila K (Sweden Baby!)
most funkiest monie love track.
soulful, groovy, funky & deadly.
monie killed it with that banger.
timeless hip hop masterpiece.
An awesome hip hop jam back in 1991 by Monie Love titled It’s A Shame(My Sister) was her only top 40 pop hit peaking at number 26. That song samples a classic Motown hit from 1970 It’s A Shame by the Spinners with G.C. Cameron on lead and was co-written and produced by Stevie Wonder which was their biggest hit on Motown before moving to Atlantic and hooking up with Thom Bell as their producer and it hit number four R&B and number fourteen pop. Monie Love did an outstanding job on that song.
Them young Kings dancing on stage prolly Father's now...
Lol facts
Them lil kids was JAMMIN
them kids remind me of me when i was 5 at that age. i was dancing like them
Faaaactzz
I still remember The Fly Girls dancing to this on In Living Color. ❤

I recorded this video on my vhs and replayed it back and again while I wrote the words to learn them, one of my first favorite rhymes as a young girl and I love it still, many great memories. Thanks Monie! You’re so great, a trendsetter and are a great aspiration to many.💚
I DID THAT TOO!! THE ONLY DIFFERENCE I DID IT ON A CASSETTE TAPE THESE YOUNGINS WOULD NEVER KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THAT
spinners version already worth its weight in gold- this version is timeless.
This song sampled The Spinners' 1970 single "It's a Shame" written for the band by Stevie Wonder, where as the "Cool as..." mix samples the guitar riff from the Sister Sledge hit "He's the Greatest Dancer". Stilll jamming to this every year 1990 to present.
The chorus is the hook.🪝 It runs through my mind all the time. Love it!! ❤️ Should have been a bigger hit.
I swear it's a shame😅
Can thank Stevie wonder for the chorus. Was originally sung by the Spinners. I prefer how it's sang here though.
