Lyrics:
[Maseo]
Me, Plug Three, the one they call Baby Huey
The one that gets all the buddy (all the buddy)
Yeah, that's right
[Mike G]
A fat funky fruit with a whole lot of tang
A little something called "Doing Our Own Thang"
Breaking the beat others wished they broke
Bassline so dope that you just might choke
Don't bite off something that you can't chew
And don't trail behind when I'm coming through
Fronting the feel that you really can't feel
'Cause you're trying to feel what's on my reel to reel
[Q-Tip]
A tree is growing
Can't you see what I see? A white blue fruit to boot
We count to ten before we pass the coots, now that's family
Equipped with the brothers and the sisters and the sisters and the brothers
And all others, with the funky flairs, the bugged-out hairs
It's the life of Riley, I'm really ready
Gazing at the gala filled rap
The cool june bugs, the wicks, the wacks
Praise the rhythms for what it be
And praise the Lord for the JB's
[Chorus: Queen Latifah]
We're doing our own thang
We're doing our own thang
We're doing our own thang
We're doing our own thang
[Posdnuos]
Isn't it cool when you cut your hand
And then the blood is red instead of sellout green
This is not the music for an RnB mind
This is flower intertwined with a vine
(In other words this is rose)
You see what I mean? Or see what Grandpa Bam saw
The funk we transmit is unstable
One condition if I am able to say
(Yes you may) Well hey, let's get on with it
Vocal confetti is thrown, sometimes spitted
Out the vents of hecklers and fans
Either which way they all hop on the band
The band, the band, here comes the band
The tribe of fingers all on one hand
Me, myself, and I is dark
Monie Love the mouthpiece, it's now yours to spark
[Monie Love]
Sister Monie, the only one here who missed a plane back to London
Residing with my brothers and I learned a lot from them
About the groove, how to be smooth and play funky
And sometimes rated it's kind of funky, but it's cool
For we are beyond the stereotypes
Coordination crazy, but still it sounds hype
Rocking off and on beat, and I do believe I'm right (You're right)
Am I wrong? (Yeah, sike!)
Don't be mad, be glad I missed the plane, I'm staying
With the Brothers Jungle, Soul, and the Tribe, I'm saying
Funky funky rhymes that always stay in swing
I believe we doing our own thing
[Interlude]
Why don't you do it to the music?
Why don't you do it to the music?
Why don't you do it to the music?
Why don't you do it to the music?
[Afrika]
My family sets all the trends
From Soul II Soul are to Loose Ends
A&R men sign groups like them
('Cause that's where the money's at, honey)
Yeah, the industry's filled with copycats
RnB mixed with sloppy raps
Tribes like us always open doors
But what for, so you can get yours?
You ain't in to it, all you want is profit
So I ask you please to stop it
Leave me alone, get off my bone
'Cause I'm doing my own...
[Mike G]
A new seed, a new breed
A new menu to feed the greed
A new pair of boots for a new piece of butt
Sweet Daddy, are you there? (Sammy B is on the cut!)
Spinning back for a rap that's laid back
Ready to kick back, those who give no slack
I may rock a rhyme or I may start to sing
But still, I'm doing my own thing
[Dove]
In comes the mood of Jungle and Daisies
Play the sing and let the vibes raise me
All hold hands and let's walk about
Form a circle and talk about
Don't follow the path that we're stepping
Truth to the soul is what I'm cramming
Reasons for this is the family's strong
And like Bob Marley said "We're jammin"
Seeing is believing, so see and believe
And let the groove of the new proceed
A whole bunch of love, peace signs, and fun
So let's do what's got to be done, you know?
[Outro]

🎯🎯🎯💯🙏🏼 My goodness, I love Monie Love!!! 😍🥰😍
Her comments in the new PBS series _Fight The Power: How HipHop Changed The World_ were absolutely great - so glad Chuck D chose to include her so much!!
All 4 episodes of the series are up on RUclips for free, to anyone interested... ✊🏼✌🏼🙏🏼

So true bro 👍 😎
Word up!
If you didn’t grow up in this era you really missed out! R.I.P. DAVE…
Agree! So much was happening then (music, cinema, culture...). Today everything is stifled by screens and "social" shitty networks. Even if I'm getting older now I'm really glad I grew up in that era so no regrets!!
RIP Trougoy, the dove of De La Soul.
Y’all feel this energy?? That’s why they had to change the frequency the vibe to gangsta shit!! Imagine if we would kept this same energy and evolve-??
We all need to stream the heck out of this jam and take it to # 1 on some of the Billboard Charts.I mean it's way better all these years later than the crap that makes it to # 1 these days.
Classic. The early 90s was my introduction to hip hop as a kid. Good times...
Me too :). Started listen in 1985 for me, 8yr old. Never stop listen to HipHop musik. 80% of the rap i listen of today is from the 90's.
That era has the Flow, rhythm, and on.
At the same time in -85 i started with Graffiti, still doing it.
Golden era is the whole 90's.
This is the remix I been trying to find for YEARS!!!!😱
Do It To The JB's Mix by Ultimatum (aka Stereo MC's)
Seriously, Monie was bodying everything she was on.
2:02 Monie Love has 1 of the illest phlos of all time 1 of my favorite MC's of all time 👸🏽💝🎤🎶🎧🎉🎊🎁💯🌌✨
"Isn't it cool when you cut your hand, and the blood is red, instead of sell-out green" - Posdnous
Maaaaannnn...I ain't never seen this video in my life nor knew it exist...idk if this is the album version or remix bcuz I never heard this version either....but I'm still going to have to go with the other version to this joint...the one I've been accustomed to for over 30 years which idk if that's the album version or remix....well I did download all of The JBs albums about 10 years ago...I guess I can find out for myself by crack opening that album and seen which one is what
Q-Tip is a legend. The dude was everywhere and helped everyone. As long as it is rap Music. Think he still does this.
its always him and large pro, literally everywhere in the 90s
Lest we forget that it was the JB's who first put Q-Tip on for their Promo joint 2 years prior to People's Instinctive Travels...
I swear I would pick these days over these ones any day!!!
peace to new generation! im 15 and IM IN LOVE WITH THIS!
try ultramagnetic mcs
REAL HIP HOP
Doing our own thang dats why black music is every thang
Great, every Native Tongue crews are here. I like it :)
Native Tongue one of the best hip hop crews
NATIVE TONGUES 4 EVER!!!
And praise the lord for the JBsssss
I remember as a kid my mind being blown bc never had I heard Maseo’s voice before
Rest In Peace Trugoy 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
EAST LA BUMPING THIS RAZAA AND MY BLACK BROTHERS💯
2:02 Monie Love is the highlight of this great collab. She always shined on collabs. Just wished her debut album met my expectation.
I thought her debut was dope
I remember being a kid & loving Monie Love & then forgetting about her for over 30 years now I can appreciate how dope she is
Just finished watching Unsung Monie Love!!! This track was one of my go to Trax at 11 back in late 89!!!
Never heard this before. Thank you from 2021.
No where as beloved as Buddy. I just learned bout this too.
I was about 16 when this came out, I thought it was dope then and still do 🔥♥️
No school like the old school ❤️❤️❤️
I haven't listened to this in decades I think and here I am reeling off the words. I used to listen to this so much. Classic positive tune.
Wow! This is one of my favorite videos by the Jungle Brothers. I haven't seen this video in maybe a couple decades.
Thanks for posting, guy! ✌🏿
Absolute best vibe in Hip Hop everrrrrr 🤘🏾
BLACK EXCELLENCE U DONE DAT SHIT AGAIN
I wish the Native Tongues dropped a Project. There’s probably songs in a vault somewhere due to all the label’s disagreeing about contracts and publishing. SMH.
That would've been dope.
Concur! Unreleased material please!
It would be up to Pos. They said he has a lot of shit in his vault, including a version of Scenario with De La on it
@@WolfXCIX Why is KMD's Peachfuzz on this record? Zev Love X wasn't in the Native tongue's?
@@WolfXCIX i see, thank you. Its just odd to see old MF DOOM in the Native Tongue mix.
This Is So Good!!! Still Jammin In 2023!!!
Finally! After three weeks of NO classic hip-hop uploads... I was getting worried. And this is a CLASSIC!
Personally, I only follow this account for the hip-hop videos. I’m from the VintageHipHopSeattle era so that’s what I’ll know this channel forever as.
@Gaylord Focker Yes.
Holy ish i didnt know that until now. Raaah 👊
Me too, that's what this channel will always be to me
@@klintoninfiniteheart8990 Exactly! It irritates me so much when this channel forgets to upload a music video on Fridays. I may sound disrespectful for saying this but I really don’t care for the podcast. I just want the classics! Lol.
Yeah they hijacked the channel for the podcast. Damn shame.
Awesomeness!!! Classic Hip-house!!! 😍🎧🎵
What a lineup!
2023 - Native Tongues still is 💯
So random.. a chat with a friend and a vague memory of a 'tune' by Jungle Bros! Awesome!! Getting me thru workouts for the last month!! Thank you for posting!!
Monie Love soo underated
This song goes hard
2:53 “The industry’s filled with copycats/R&B mixed with sloppy raps”
Back when this song came out, hip-hop was still very creative & original at the time. You think raps were sloppy then? Well it’s a lot more sloppy now, lol
Apart from that, classic tune. Lovin the collabs - especially with Maseo from De La Soul rapping on a track which doesn’t happen too often, being the DJ of the group 👌
DAMN I MISS MY CHILDHOOD IN FAR ROCKAWAY QUEENS WHEN I HEAR THIS !!!!!!
Real rap / hip hop #Kidsnotknowing!
this started playing on the car radio, and it slapped so hard that i HAD to shazam it.
i dont regret anything.
What an Amazing Time in Hip Hop
RIP Dove, Plug two!😪
Who's listening to this good music in 2023 😂
Awesome
1993 I’ve been listening to hip-hop not Fetty rap or gangster RnB. ( Stay safe and many blessings people … alright one. )
The timing couldn't be more perfect. _Done by the Forces of Nature_ was just remastered with a digital deluxe edition today. I would love to see a Native Tongues miniseries one day. Now Tommy Boy needs to do right and not only pay DLS for their publishing, but put all of their catalog on the streaming apps ASAP.
#FACTS
I bought the album back in '99 (mad late) and was disappointed that this version wasn't on the album.
The Native Tongues! The golden age of creativity and soulful expression in Hip Hop which could have inspired a new era as a movement for peace and equality.
Instead Black America and rap music lost its soul to materialism and violence.
Nice 😊👍
When Hip-Hop was Alive and Genuinely Fun💯 #WestCoastLuv #RIPTrugoy👑
This song is incredible.
Last Verse is the best.
I bought Done By the Forces of Nature for this and "What U Waitin' 4", and was disappointed that this version wasn't on it.
If you're going to post this then I need y'all to upload " Buddy"
Classic ❤️♥️👑💜💜
Raw silk - do it to the music 😎🎶
Talk about taking you back! Shoot..... So many memories.
What 20 unwashed heathens disliked this jewel?!
WHEN DA SONG & VIDEO SO DOPE....
U DON'T NEED A COMMENT 🔥🔥🔥 BONG!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Word
Thanks for posting this it brought me back to the 90s
The r/OldElectronicMusic subreddit brought me here!
🔥 💣 💚
A str8 house party/cookout vibe #vintage
Straight up no doubt 😄
Boomp!!
Raw Silk
Do it to the Music
Am in Love with monie OMG
I really love the music and the vibe. I love it!
DO IT DO IT DO IT"!!
Remembering when rap music was good.
Am I the only one who gets big old-school "Rapper's Delight" energy from this song? That's NOT a bad thing...
Classic.
Native Tongues!
Buddy buddy on your face
This is the 1990s
they took it back to the disco era of hip hop with this
Jefe: voy a aprender inglés gracias al musicon que subes con letra. Viva el rap, su legado es inmortal.
Yess awesome era ❤️❤️I was 18 in new York the best stuff❤️❤️✨✨
Love seeing these classic vids!
BONITA,BONITA,BONITAD TO THE WORLS SE THAT THE LOV WAS THE MESSAGE, PRA MIM JUNGLE BROTHERS, PART OF MY TEEN YEARS, LOV U Monnie, (i have the single its a shame),, , LISTEN TO IT EVERY '"SATURDAY", lourival BRASIL.
Didn’t know this existed. Fantastic!
Real music! Nyc ! Flavor in Face!
Sparkling r&b from some of the best
Still can jam to this!
This is so much better than what we get now.
This dates back to the late 1980’s/early 1990’s, when talent in rap was valued.
As far as I’m concerned, Lil Wayne and Soulja Boy killer Hip Hop.
The only stuff that is ever partially decent anymore is underground. And even that isn’t as lively as this song.
❤️❤️
AWESOME!
R.I.P. Plug Two
Come thru Monie Love baby!!
The Hip Hop world is STILL in mourning from The Native Tongues not dropping a compilation album.
Way better than the album version, this is my shit.
Classic
RIP Trugoy 🙏🏾❤️
