Wavy, I just wanted to say that I’ve been a teacher for 29 years in the public school system and you definitely have a natural gift for teaching! You explain things well and you communicate in a way that makes it easy to understand. I’m a pro tools user and you have taught me a lot! I enjoy watching your videos and look forward to when new ones are released! I’m going to look into becoming a Wavy Seal!
@@waynewav Here's a random question I have for you Wayne, I have my own Recording Studio and was wondering approximately how much $$ would it cost me make a promotional EP in 2022? Looked on the internet and there are way too many different answers.
For anyone looking at getting a used 428, there's an older version with VU meters which some might prefer, but be aware that the older unit gets hot mainly because of the power supply used. If you keep it on for long periods, some have had issues with premature component failure, usually the power supply or components around the power supply. Along with the loss of VU meters, the newer 428 MKII changed the power supply to a switching power supply which generates considerably less heat.
Ya'll beginners are sleep on the presonus studio 24/26c. It's not mentioned much but I promise it's the one! The xmax preamps that it comes with are very pristine and clean.
Great video, Wavy. But I am not sure what to set my interface levels at that are receiving my mic preamp signal. Is there a balance between both units to be concerned about? Thanks! :)
Why is the pre-amp still set to mic input if you are using line input?? This is where i am stuck, I am running a wa73 into apollo, but the cables are messing with my head, I gone xlr into wa73 but then i need to get xlr to line like you, as been just using line, then on apollo i should be on line input?? as input
Thanks, this is helpful! I connect a black lion preamp to a simple focusrite interface, but I am not totally happy with the results yet. I’ve done it for a while now just like you describe, but I am reaching the limit to fast and wonder if there is a way to get more benefit of the mic & preamp power and coloration. Maybe my simple focusrite interface (2i2) is a bit weak … I just notice that my preamp has a loooooooot of gain power (80) that I cannot even begin to use. At 20-30 gain it is already starting to reach limit, but if I get too far from the mic there is just too much loss of the sound characteristics I prefer. So I wonder if I could do something better here. Maybe better balance between gain and output or … Do you have a tip how to optimize the mic - preamp - interface Situation even more, with additional or different gear or different settings?
With the 2i2 you go through the audio interface’s preamp as well even if you turn the input all the way down. I suggest getting a preamp with a “proper” line level input.
ALSO so important to mention is you MUST make sure that the cable you are using coming out of the ISA into your interface is a xlr (female) to TRS (instrument cable with TWO lines around the tip **not one**) and that the TRS side is going into a LINE input on your interface not just an input not specified as LINE. If this isn’t your set up you will be pushing your interface way too hard with volume and will lose A TON of headroom like you described. Hope this helps!
I have the isa one and I have a comp , I normally just have it xlr out to comp to xlr interface . But I’m hearing about the insert . How do I do that with my Isa one preamp to comp ? Do I just press the insert button ? I’m confused
@wayne quick question I’m running the Apollo twin Luna plus Presonus studio channel rack which should I use as my actual gain pre amp or Luna im getting a low frequency
Hey I'm here because I see an Avalon 757 for $900 and I'm thinking about grabbing... I already have an Avalon V5 but having a solid state and a tube sounds tempting. Is there a big enough difference to in the two?
I’m just caught on and love the Isa texture preamp compression 428. Def would love to see your opinion on the Neve Orbit 5057 !!! I’m mad curious to your thoughts cause it’s 16 track summing
Could you, please do a video on budget : beginner friendly analog gear. For example: a compressor - an EQ and pre amp that are around under £400 each. I’d like to use a analog but I can’t justify £2000 for one item ❤️ Anyone ready, if you have any recommendations please let me know also ❤️❤️
Check out the ART MPA II Pre Amp. It’s a budget pre amp but it gets top tier results. You can find a bunch of RUclips videos on it. Great for vocals. Tytheprodigy covers it a lot.
I have a question. I accidentally hooked a mic output from the Focusrite preamp into a mic input on the Apollo twin. Is that the same thing or does it have to be a male it input?
Question my brother…. First off much love and respect you killing it. I just want to know because the 4 channel is so hard to find over here but the 2 channel is is there a big difference in the production on the 2 channel as the 4 is it really a 1000 different for 2 more channels
Yo!! After two long years later, I finally got my Isa one 🎉🫡 crazy first watching this video i was lost, but now watching, I don't get what I wasn't understanding. Maybe bypassing the pre amp part 😅.. If you are new, keep pushing it gets better!🫡
Bro I just got some outgear it's a pain in my ass 😂 I bought a microphone preamp from Warm Audio called the Tonebeast sp I could use my compressors. I honestly need to get more channels tho I can only hook up one compressor at a time unless I use the StudioLive64s I haven't gotten it all down yet lol Everything is hooked up the way it says but I still seem to get feedback. I've been going insane trying to figure out why lol
Yes u do, don’t listen to this person above…there’s absolutely no way but to go for outboard gear eventually once you’ve learned how to mix in the box(thru daw plugins strictly). Outboard gear in this video, Wayne tells u that outboard gives u bigger sound, warmer sound if u get a specific piece of outboard gear with a tube or tubes but warning tho these pieces of equipment can get expensive…but to complete my point sometimes there’s just not enough power in an interface even if it comes with a preamp…outboard gear is a must if u are building ur own studio

Wavy wayne can you do a video for studio one. On how to drag the chorus over without having to record it again?
Sheeeeeeeesh man I’m in love with the isa but just can’t afford it😭😭😭 yo wavy I need a vid of all yo gear like what you got on the racks
Great video! I noticed this is listed as Part 1. Is there a Part 2 that follows this first video? Thanks!

I’m with u there friend cause I have a signal established but it’s pretty low I’m not sure where to start turning up the amp or interphase
How's uad 710 TwinFinity compared to it?

What level numbers would you consider a strong vocal?
Dope frfr got me thinking about upgrading even more 🔥💯🏆
Part two wavy lol

Good presentation. well done
Did you added subtle distortion FX on your vocals? Your voice sounds a bit grungy.

If I turn my amp up I get air if I turn my mic up it seems the signal fades
Where can I find the other 2 parts
So with the pre-amp volume controlling the volume then o. Your interface for that channel on your Apollo your volume is set to 0 right ???????
I wondered that too. Mine is. 🤷🏿♂️
@@ronaldperry5007 definitely but he never replies
😂😂😂 @producer_fuji I seen someone ask the same thing he replied yes or at unity
Yea I don’t see him reply much tho lol

Does this Apollo run on the new MacBook pro m1 pro chip
Is the Focusrite isa one still worth getting ?

Hi Wavy I have a question, is there a way to route a client prerecorded vocals from Protools through your mic pre for more color?
Off topic: do the vocal templates work with pro tools first?
No
@@ruthlessrich4674 thanks
I have a question, its maybe silly 🙃Can I put preamp on an old recorded vocal that I have in .wav only?

I want to buy a preamp for one mic, which is best under 500$?
does the volume on the interface need to be fully turned down??
Yes. Or at unity.

Do you really need a preamp?
no, but it does hold a lot of value
