    The painting is so much better than the photo, you are such a talented artist, I would love 💕 it if you could do some tutorials on painting gumtrees, ide love to paint the Aussie landscape but these beautiful gumtrees are challenging, I really appreciate your lessons 👍👍👍

    I painted along with you and I was so surprised (again) that acrylics dry so fast! I love my oils! Thanks again Sam.

      You are so welcome! Yes, indeed, acrylics dry very quickly. This is why I prefer painting with oils.

    Thanks Sam for this tutorial! I am self taught as well. 1yr ago I tried plein air painting with oils and absolutely loved it, but I know nothing about oil painting, as I have always drawn with pastels, charcoal, and always watercolor. So oils was a huge step! But thanks to my artist friends and your great tutorials I will not give up!
    Have a wonderful week!

    Samuel, you made it as beautiful as you do in oils. I hope you can recommend something to keep colors. No matter how much I try to mix colors, they are getting much darker and there is almost no difference between dark and light. Thank you!

    • @SamuelEarpArtist
      @SamuelEarpArtist  Год назад +1

      Thank you Yelena. The issue you are having is one of the problems with acrylics in that colours dry darker than when they are wet. To counteract this problem the only solution I have found so far is to mix your darks lighter so you can allow for the fact they dry darker 😊

    Sam, I can not recommend highly enough Slow Dry Medium!! Every oil painter uses mediums but no one ever mixes anything with acrylics but water. Imagine if all you mixed with oil paints was turps.
    Slow Dry Medium is a game changer! You will not believe how much nicer acrylics are to use when you add this medium.

    • @SamuelEarpArtist

      Thanks so much for the recommendation. I will give this a try 😊

    I stopped using acrylics for 2 reasons:
    1. It dries so insanely quickly that I got really stressed and used colours I didn’t really want to use the paint «in time».
    2. Acrylics CHANGE COLOUR when it dries. So reproducing a colour you made before accurately? Very hard.
    Actrylics, for me, are great for smaller sketches and studies. Great when you feel explosive and want to experiment and not have to wait days until you can effectively cover something.

    • @SamuelEarpArtist
      @SamuelEarpArtist  Год назад

      I agree with you on this, acrylics dry too quickly and dry darker. This is part of the reason I am keeping my paintings smaller. I definitely think oils are much easier to paint with however I am having fun with acrylics and I think they could be a good medium for doing quick colour studies 😊
