Atom's secret was probably him having some form of awareness, Charlie's secret is that he loves his son (something he tries to say but gets choked up with tears right before Max says that)
If you actually break down the scorecards at the end, Zeus only wins by 2 points. So the commentator saying that it was a "near humiliating loss" was actually super accurate.

I wish they made another movie of this. Different cast, more bots, would've been sick.
Yeah, be good if they made a sequel but for an older audience as the children who liked this movie have grown up now. Make an MA rated movie or even an R rating for all the violence. I'd love that! Oh well, I'm looking forward to the District 9 sequel next year instead

honestly one of the best movies. Unique, the story has character growth and it looks amazing. This is one of those movies I want more of, but I realize, that it's probably good they never made a second one
I remember when I discovered this gem in theaters...it was amazing, the last fight scene with Atom mimicking Charlie's boxing, the slow motion scenes with his kid...never fails to bring a tear to my eye it's just a beautiful scene ahah, so glad you reacted to it and adopted Roman's catchphrase as a recurrent expression :)) I'll be always hungry for your content cuh

With the Your secret’s safe with me” at 13:31 I think Max said that because Atom, despite being a robot, does show some sentience, especially with the final round with Zeus when Charlie needs to shadowbox, Max begs Charlie and when the camera swapped to Atom it looked like he nodded or when Max asked, “can you understand me?” It looked like Atom did a little nod. It’s subtle, but if you look close enough you can definitely see it happen.
I think the "Secret" at the end is in reference to him talking to Atom near when they first found him. It was poetic in a way, after all, his father was mostly cold and distant... almost.....Robotic???? And now that he's shown he actually cares and feels more human, his secret's safe with him, no words needed.
9/10 Feel good entertainment with a great story I love watching Real steel whenever possible, delightful scenes especially with the kid and Hugh Jackman is awesome throughout! VFX are incredible and well polished; I'm glad it was nominated. Shawn Levy has done many projects under his belt that I have absolutely loved or even just consider a guilty pleasure which is nice too. I like the cuteness in many parts, definitely one of the better robot movies made in last couple decades!
I ADORE this movie. It's that one classic that you watched as a kid and ended up so fascinated by it you would watch it religiously afterwards. For me it was the one movie my family and I could watch when we couldn't find something we all agreed on, because it was guaranteed to be a fun time for everyone. There's a lot of happy memories related to this movie :)

When this came out everyone (including me) mocked this as Rock’Em Sock’Em Robots… But then I found out it was based on the story by Richard Matheson. That dude had SSOOOOOO much range!

This is one of my favorite movies. The fights, the characters and the development of them, especially Charlie, who was the one who got the most. Something curious. The robots were actually made for some scenes to add more realism to scenes. The Atom that gets up in the table when its turned on for the first time is a real model, not effects.
Since this movie is shot in South Eastern michigan, I would assume "The Zoo" was filmed at the Detroit Zoo. At the time the zoo was in the process of remodeling several of the exhibits including the tiger, the penguin, and the polar bears. It looks most like the tiger exhibit IMO.

Nope. 2000-2010 CGI were best. Today’s graphics don’t come close to real art just as it was shown in this movie, new robots weren’t as good as real authentic robots of past.

I was 16 when this movie hit the theaters. I watched it more than 5 times. First time with my friends, the rest 4 times i went alone. It was so good. The music, casting, cgi everything was great.
I still have dvd disk of this film. For me and my brother this is THE FILM OF OUR CHILDHOOD. We religiously watched it every 3 or 4 days pr so bc god it was everything for us, action, robots, fun, humor, piece of drama. So much nostalgia 🥹

I like seeing this concept in real life. It'll probably be more similar to the car world having tuff gear heads and nerds as people who would like this type of stuff. Also imagine the financial risk in competing in this sport. Spending tens of thousands of dollars on a robot only to see it be destroyed
I loved this movie. I found out about it, while it was being made. The courthouse scene in the beginning, where Charlie was going to sign over his parental rights, was filmed in the county courthouse in Mason Michigan. My friends and I used to play around in the stairwell they shot that scene.
I just watched this accidentally on a bus trip. never finished on the ride tho.. still I wanted to watch it full because it was so good. really underated gem
What no one talks about is the CGI in this movie. They had robots looking good in transformers but in this they absolutely nailed it. And they had a mix of both real life sized props for robots and also CG ones. Most static shots of robots were done practically.
I think it was mentioned there was a deleted scene where they would hint at the robot having some sentience but they decided to leave it out and make it more ambiguous and up to the viewer if the robot was sentient.
I first saw this movie with my dad and my cousin. I was 14 and a couple weeks later my cousin died in a skateboard accident. One of the better memories I have with my cousin and my dad.
In the final fight with Zeus, they replicated some of the more famous moments from the Rocky Apollo Creed match in Rocky. It was a nice homage, and the whole movie is, pretty much, a Rocky remake.
I love this movie, honestly a very underrated film in my opinion. As for Zeus winning at the end, it makes sense tbh, Zeus was dominating the entire fight and knocked down Atom like 10 times, while Atom only won the last round and knocked Zeus down once. So even though we all wanted Atom to win, Zeus clearly won that fight lol even if he was about to lose in the final round.
The motel that they filmed the part where the kid was teaching atom to dance is right down the road from me in Holly Michigan. Literally the only cool thing that's ever happened in Holly.

Indeed. It might be one of the first time a movie went with realistic approach instead of having protagonist (atom) but win.

The motel that they filmed the part where the kid was teaching atom to dance is right down the road from me in Holly Michigan. Literally the only cool thing that's ever happened in Holly.
