Add a bit more flour and a pinch of corn starch if you have it. It is nit supposed to be as wet as hers. Real shredded cheddar taste better. You can crumble your ritz and add the pineapple juice into the crackers. Like you would do with melted butter on a savory casserole. Or just pour the juice over top the lines of crackers on hers. We also do a layer of crackers at the bottom and you can use crushed pineapple if you do not like the chunks.

When you live in areas where the local grocery shopping consists of a convenience store and a dollar general, though, there's only so much that you can do and it's not necessarily a reflection of what the people would eat if they had better options and more money.

So I had to google it. It is a thing and Paula Deen has a recipe online for pineapple casserole. Her recipe calls for way more sugar and grated cheddar cheese with way less liquid. This is mixed together with the chunks and poured into a buttered dish. Then cracker crumbs mixed with butter and a bit of pineapple juice is sprinkled over top and baked. I imagine its supposed to be a thick pudding with a crunchy crust kin to a cobbler. Mama just needs some finesse bless her heart.
