    I think instead of putting so much effort you can just take one scoop of casein and mix it in milk. Thatll give you slow release protein throughout the night. Take one spoon of peanut butter and you are done. No need to spend 10 min preparing that. Maybe im just over reacting as i dont have a lot of time

    • @galaxytraveler5779
      @galaxytraveler5779 9 лет назад +1

      +arushbhai That is exactly what i do. I used to do this, now I just eat 3/4 cup of cottage cheese, a glass of milk and a spoon of almond butter. I loved this recipe, but it became annoying to do every night when i could be doing something else.

    Casein actually works well. Whenever I use it I get a better recovery and feel more energised the next day.

    When you heat food, you affect the proteins in it. Heat makes proteins change shape, which is called "denaturing" the proteins. While this causes them to lose function, it doesn't affect the nutrient value. In fact, you don't use any of the proteins in your food for their function. When you consume protein, your stomach acid denatures the protein -- just as heat does -- and you break the protein down into its constituent parts, explain Drs. Mary Cam (it carries on)

    Thanks for the free advice. I made it, tasted great. Good to have other ideas to mix the bland diet up sometimes. Appreciate all the advice. Weird how many people commenting feel the need to be so negative and aggressive in their comments. Anyone would think you were promoting ISIS or something from the comments.

    the reason of why you should eat casein instead of whey, is that the casein is slower digestible tan the whey. and since it's your nighttime snack, and you won't eat for 7-9 hours, it will be best for you to eat casein protein.

  • @Palpac
    @Palpac 11 лет назад

    (the carry on)Drs. Mary Campbell and Shawn Farrell in their book "Biochemistry." Enzymes are proteins, and you don't use the enzymes in your food. As such, though microwaving, like conventional cooking, destroys enzymes, this is of no concern, because the enzymes your body depends on are produced by the cells of the digestive tract.
    Basically it doesn't matter if he use a microwave, even if you had a raw egg it would end up in the same state once it hit your stomach acids.

    I just made this recipe but I used a Natural Vanilla Whey Protein and it is GOOD. It doesn't taste like a dessert with tons of sugar but it is pleasant. I will probably make it a few times a week for an evening snack.

  • @ashbash986

    informative, thanks. i guess another factor is - if you eat something before bed you'll have more glycogen in your muscles when you wake up, compared to if you didn't eat a few hours before bed. which could give the illusion of muscle gain/loss..

    The difference ist that your body is able to use the whey protein quicker (thats why its better at the morning or after the training).. the problem is it doesnt last to long in the body because your body is using it that quickly.. casein lasts longer and your body needs more time to use it (thats why its good to eat before bed).. i hope i could help you a bit:)

    From Dr. Louis Bloomfield, PhD in Physics from Stanford and currently professor of Physics at University of Virginia: "Microwaves don't affect the molecular structure of the food, except through the thermal effects we associate with normal cooking. That's because, like all electromagnetic waves, microwaves are emitted and absorbed as particles called "photons." The energy in a microwave photon is so tiny that it can't cause any chemical rearrangement in a molecule."

    I'm aware that there are different types of cholesterol. Just because HDL doesn't sit in your artery as readily as LDL doesn't mean eating 10 egg yolks is okay. It's not.

    how does this sound?
    . 2 scoops low-fat 1% cottage cheese
    . 1 or 1.5 scoops whey protein powder (chocolate or vanilla)
    . 2 tbsp. un-sweetened baking cocoa
    . 2 tbsp. ground cinnamon
    . 1/4 cup water

    Doesn't matter, what matters is that you get in all your required calories and macronutrients daily. Not having a meal that digests "slowly" before you sleep won't affect your muscles at all

  • @oogabubchub
    @oogabubchub 12 лет назад

    Just to let you know that Dr. Lita Lee's book and the issues of Earthletter are both quoting those 1950's studies. How about we look at some newer studies...ones from 1995 called Nutritional effects of microwave cooking. Can't post link, but search up "anne lassen microwave" and go to Emerald Insight - "Several studies have shown that microwave cooking, if properly used, does not change the nutrient content of foods to a larger extent than conventional heating."

  • @matrixview
    @matrixview 13 лет назад

    @Jacumbrella Well, it depends.. If you're heating protein, enzymes or vitamins, you're basically changing its structure and not get the nutrients you were aiming for. In a microwave oven this can happen very rapidly and irregularly.

    great recipe, i'm definitely gonna try it. But i agree with crouseski, there's no need to throw away the yolk. that's 5g of protein down the drain. Only do it if you're a rich pro, or if your doctor is tellin you to cut down on cholesterol (because you have hypertension or atherosclerosis or because you are smoking a lot). Otherwise, tuck into the egg yolk, Max T.

    The recommended dietary intake of cholesterol for most people is about 300 milligrams of cholesterol. An egg yolk contains about 210 milligrams of cholesterol. Care to rethink your statement?

  • @Andreastij
    @Andreastij 12 лет назад

    The protein itself gets nuked by low pH and enzymes in your digestive system, which is neccesary for you to absorb it. Heating doesn't change that - only the 3-dimensional structure (denaturation). Yes, this destroys the biological activity of for example enzymes, but again, that happens in your stomach anyway. After heating, your body can still break down, absorb and utilize the proteins themselves.

    I know it's in there. And I bet you can also find tensile failure limits in science textbooks as well - that doesn't mean that it applies to microwaves. Just because you find scientific terms in a textbook doesn't mean you can just apply it to anything you want. Structural isomerism is something that does not occur with microwaves.

    Microwaves do not change the chemical components of in food and so the formation of new compounds, like carcinogens, is not expected. Some studies have been conducted to investigate any possible negative health effects of microwaving foods. These studies, which have been reviewed by Health Canada scientists, have found no evidence of toxicity or carcinogenicity.
    As long as you dont overheat/overcook the food and have a proper ventilated lid, and a well maintained microwave, Your safe!

Make sure you use proper form. If you're just starting out use lower reps (4-6) and higher weight to get your strength up. If you're a little more advanced you should be in the moderate 8-12 rep range especially if you're trying to go anywhere in football.
