    Great approach to replacing the generator. I want to thank you for sharing this great idea of replacing the generator without the need for removing the shroud and/or removing the entire engine. Good job.

    Thanks for the videos. I had no problems until I found a previous owner had messed up the edges on the 36mm fan hub nut. I spent several hours reaching inside the housing trying to file the burrs off so my socket would fit. I finally gave up and bought a 36mm crow foot wrench. I then found that the vent in the tins was installed upside down by whoever changed it last. I also used shorter (12mm length)bolts to put the tins on, the last guy used 20mm and it was almost impossible to get the bottom two in with the longer bolt. Other than the problems someone left me your videos were a great help.

    If you take the hood off. The bottom bolts on the fan shroud are easily screwed back in. By standing beside the car and reaching down in. THANKS!!! Jack. This helped a lot.

    I spent all weekend taking out my 6 month old generator because it isn't charging the battery. Your videos were my guide. I had an old one that still works so I put that one in. Then I took the new one apart and found a broken wire at the Df pole. I soldered it and put it back together and it works like new. Rather, using a battery and jumper cables it spins like crazy. It's still a PITA taking the generator out so I'll wait til this older one fails before switching back.

    Thankyou for the 4 very informative videos. I'm wondering if you can help me? My generator has the voltage regulator on top of it and I'm not sure which wires I should be hooking onto in order to polarize the generator as the car has been sitting for 20+ years. How do I know which wires are which? thanks again for the videos.

    I have a 36 mm fan bolt from hell. While trying to take it off the front nut came off instead. After seeing the middle continued to spin we realized the woodruff key was missing. Got a new one and tried again. I think we shaved off the woodruff key trying so hard to get this loose. I'm about to lose my stinking mind.

    I made a breaker bar first. I took 1/2 inch EMT (electrical metal tubing) about 3 feet long. I took a sledge hammer and just flattened a section of it a little bit. Making it oval instead of circular. I was about to use this, but instead I reverted to a foot long breaker bar on the back connected to the 36mm, then just a wrench on the front that we tapped w/ a hammer and it broke loose.

    I took off the front half of the pulley but left the back half with its oblong connector attached to the generator. A 19mm open end wrench will slide onto the flat parts of that connector. Then using a cheater bar on the wrench I was able to stop the genny from turning and get the large nut off.

    My 36mm nut was so tight I drilled a 1 1/2" access hole in my rear seat cubby/engine fire wall. I put an extension straight through onto the nut. With the rear seat out I was able to finally crack that fan nut. I will cover my hole with a round piece a steel. Its covered by cloth anyway so no one will ever see it.

    I am so frustrated! the two bolts you pulled out at the bottom of the generator (the panel that attaches it to the fan) has screws there instead. The dual port intake manifold is blocking those so I can't get them out. The dual port intake manifold is locked down by a nut that is LITERALLY impossible reach with any sockets or wrenches. I have been to 4 different automotive stores and spent 50$ on tools to try and do this. can you please help me? what do I do

    I think I need to replace my generator, I'm a little worried and have many questions. Buy a new generator, or a rebuilt one, or an actual 1968 generator off of a parts bug online... or.. is my old one still good because something might just need to be sealed together? My red light has always been idling and these days it's been solid.. and NOW I cant drive it. The manual says a failed generator because my belt is still attached.

    NOTICE he's working on a single port motor, Dual port is a bit harder. But it will work.

  • @6d4vdub
    @6d4vdub  15 лет назад

    Sorry, never saw one that tight. The last guy that put that Gen. in may have use an impact wrench. Maybe you can take the whole fan housing out like the guy above does it, I never did it that way.
