Should be embarrassed. No sympathy for a drug user or dealer. They choose to use drugs. Nobody forced them to do anything. Facts don't care about your emotions.
It's sad to see stuff like this. People get out of jail, having learnt nothing. No rehabilitation, just punishment. Those officers very well saved her life. She is obviously in full blown active addiction, and was about to go consume that meth/fentanyl. She very well could’ve overdosed, and probably would’ve. She tested positive later for only meth, which leads me to believe she usually gets clean-ish stuff and doesn’t use opioids. People love to hate on the drug war (I’m against the drug war in its current state as well,) but it also saves lives undoubtedly. People can’t be nuanced about anything anymore, everything always has to be either all saintly or all evil. These officers do not want to ruin people’s lives, they want to save them. For the most part, that is how police officers are. Even though much of the system and our government is corrupt and evil, many of the individual officers and their immediate commanders (sergeants, LT’s, etc) really just want to help their community and country.

I think that the Miranda rights should be updated or changed to include the statement "if you do not wish to talk or answer any questions, that will not be held against you in court". I see so many cases like this where they are read their rights, but clearly do not understand them. And im sure its deliberatly done in a way where they make it seem that refusing to talk (i cant help you if you dont talk, do you want to tell your side of the story, if you dont defend yourself now you will be charged) is detrimental to your case. Miranda rights should be clear enough for anyone whos not a legal expert to understand exactly the situation they are in.
The way the officer says, "well, then just quit. you're not trying very hard." that is judgmment and that's exactly why she didn't want to tell him in the first place but felt more comfortable telling the other officer the truth. Not a trauma informed response to an addict at all and very miseducated as especially with substances, it's not as simple as "just quit, try harder." there is a very real coping mechanism and brain chemistry that goes on in the brain and often treatment is required.
They just had their rights read to them (that they have the right to remain silent) and they still start talking (a bunch of nonsense) that's going to screw them over when they go to court. SMH!

It's sad to see stuff like this. People get out of jail, having learnt nothing. No rehabilitation, just punishment. The plea agreement was extremely fair, but it's so sad to see that they won't take it. Help is given, but not used. Jail and prison doesn't help most people, and the people who need help won't take the help they can be given. I feel sorry for these people's lives being how they are, and I really hope they get what they need. That the system will change to truly make sure they get the help they need, not just get punished, as they live horrible lives desiring nothing more.
The ship of rehabilitation in prison/jail sailed a loooong time ago. Unfortunately like you said it's strictly inhumane punishment and bidness now. Gotta keep the cycle going. And then you get the folks who are so institutionalized they can't function on the streets.
Getting better from drugs requires being able to see and be hopeful of a better future.. addicts can only see making it through one day at a time. If it did kill through skin absorption, chronic pain patients wouldn't be using patches of it on their skin for medicine. Takes comically copious amounts to hurt somebody through skin.
Multiple doctors and chemists have debunked all the hysteria and misinformation about cops “overdosing" just from touching it. It doesn't absorb through skin unless it's in an actual transdermal patch.
Fentanyl misinformation is very dangerous, you cannot overdose from skin to skin interaction with fentanyl.

If the police "recognize you from the other night," maybe you should just stay at home.
Get good, bro.
