Semolina is so delicious.. and half the world use it baked for dessert then splash it with syrup. Such a lovely dessert with least complication if any. I made the Indian version cake and tried it with cocoa and then again with coconut 😘👌🏻. Tastier than regular tea cake.
They (Greek/Vedic) share many cultural, linguistic, scientific, and philosophical similarities with the people of ancient Vedic times, because they were those people.
This is the first time I've seen this made the way my theas made it. The only suggestion I would make is let it set for longer, and while it's sitting, tilt the pan in all 4 directions so the syrup can get into the edge pieces. You can also use orange rind instead of lemon.
Haven't had this sweet since I moved from Greece to USA and it used to be one of my favorite ones! I'm so happy I found your channel, I'll make ravani pretty soon, thanks!

Used to eat ravani, baklava, bureki, back in Turkey , indeed its so sugary and syrupy ! Akis, your channel (and this fizzy Greek accent) are fantastic, you made everything looks so simple and warm ! Cheers
Akis your food is great even though like the way you did your videos before i mean the background music while you put ingredients together with the old way i think your approach was a lot more real .......❤️❤️
You all probably dont care but does anyone know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account?? I somehow forgot the password. I love any assistance you can give me.
@Sylas Aaron Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process now. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Hi Akis, please tell me after you put 15g of sugar, what is "mastic"?. Is it a Greek spices? Thank you i love your video, also appreciated very much for sharing
I use only thick semolina because I like my ravani crumbly. Also my version has a good amount of coconut flakes in it cause I like coconut. Coconut ravani is popular in itself in Greece but I am sure its not authentic. But who cares! :P The perfect dessert to eat alongside with a cup of greek/turkish coffee!
Huh never tried a wet cake before but I do like citrus dessert. Quick question, can I soak the cake with syrup and leave in the fridge overnight? Or would that be too wet?
Hi Aki, I love your channel :) I learn a lot every day, Thank you!!! can you please show us how to make Πασχαλινά Tσουρέκια? Thank you in advance. xoxo
Harissa is Egyptian. Christian and Muslim Egyptians in the Fatimid, Umayyad, and Abbasid eras used to participate in celebrations by sharing harissa and dumplings (lokmat al-qadhi), and the recipe in the video is not harissa. 😒😒
Thanks for the recipe, looks amazing, I'll surely try it! Can you please make some Galaktobureko as well? I've followed a recipe on youtube but it was all in Greek and some of the ingredients were not listed in the description. It turned out fantastic, but the taste was slightly different than what I usually eat at my fave Greek restaurant. On top of that, the Greek restaurant serves it hot with a ball of icecream next to it but in Greece I ate it cold. What's the way to serve it?
we also have a dessert like this but in Nicaragua we called it borracho (drunk) cuz the syrup has some rum in it and has a thin layer of custard on top that also has more rum. 😎😎😎
+Akis Kitchen yes it is and it's quite delicious. borracho it's a common way of calling it but it's also called "pio quinto". you should try making it. we like to used our famous aged rum "Ron Flor de Caña"
Hey Akis. I know this is old but I wanted to make revani tonight and your recipe is different than the one I had. It was with orange juice in the wet ingredients. I want to try yours. Is the mastic able to be substituted? If it's very important I can find it tomorrow.
Akis, how are you? Just a quick question. I wanna know if I can exchange the lemon for oranges. I ask because I see you have two different recipes of Ravani, this one on RUclips and another one on your website. The other one uses oranges but it also uses yogurt and brandy. Since this one here is simpler, I was just wondering if using oranges instead of lemons would do the job. 🤔🙂 Greetings from Brazil! 🇧🇷
People from Maghreb have the same dessert haha...I've ate that cake it's awesome but I always wonder how it will taste without the syrup !! Can I sky that part ?!
I use some orange zest or orange flavoring in ravani. Mastiha is used in another delicious syrupy sponge cake called samali. I hope my suggestion is helpful.
Ah yes i seen other recipe use cream of wheat and semolina. instead of white flour. The only thing that i dont what mastic is. I never heard of it. Other recipes put cardamom in it . Yes you are enjoyable to watch :D
It’s neither Greek nor Turkish, it’s an authentic Egyptian recipe and it’s called Rawani , you people took the same Egyptian name and turned it into ravani because you don’t have this (w) sound in your language so you turned it into (v) sound
Semolina in Hindi is called Rava. The moment I saw this Ravani by Akis pop up, I had to watch it.
Semolina is so delicious.. and half the world use it baked for dessert then splash it with syrup. Such a lovely dessert with least complication if any. I made the Indian version cake and tried it with cocoa and then again with coconut 😘👌🏻. Tastier than regular tea cake.

very similar to middle eastern basbousa... is there a greek version of kunafe??? and can yo please make it????

Isn't basbousa also known as namoura? I'm trying not to get my wires crossed here.
+carolinefreak don't know to be honest... I've eaten it only out here in Qatar...
+carolinefreak yes it is but only in lebanon they say namoura
Kunafe with pistachios is sooo good!!!

We something similar to this in our Eurasian cuisine as well. We call it Sugee cake.

Guys, in which shops in the Netherlands can I find semolina?
You should be able to find it there, though I dunno what it's called in Dutch. If not you could import it from Greece.
I m sure Albert Heijn has it
+Kumbaya Pr thanks for the tip! i will look for semolina in AH
please could you do for Argavalos sweet greek
Could you put coconut in the ravani recipe?
Is this the same as Basbusa?
similar
rava is for semolina in South India !
Cool!
Interesting :)
Rest of India it's called 'suji' 😊

exactly it s harrissa el louz .it s a turkish dis same like baklawa ...

There is no alternative. You can omit it.
where can you get mastic from, and if you cant then what can I use as a substitute thankyou
I think from the internet... will be readily availiable..
+sammy x Nothing is a substitute for the flavor of mastic.
akis I always love your t-shirts!! what stores do you shop at??
I have a friend who brings them to me... :-)
What is mastick?
It's like the arabic semolina cake recepie called BASBOUSA, BASBOUSA is easier and you have all most the same result
not really; I've eaten both many times - the Greek cake is lighter, has a finer semolina and mastic gives it a distinct flavour profile.
hello, we do it in algeria too and we call it basboussa
yes i know! :-)
Is there anything that can replace mastika?
just ommit it
I use some orange zest or orange flavoring in ravani. Mastiha is used in another delicious syrupy sponge cake called samali. I hope my suggestion is helpful.
thai basil has that anis touch too, and basil goes very well with sweet.
What is 'mastik'?
French Toast recipe. Please :-D
You know this guy's an authentic greek because he pronounces sugar "tsoogar"
After the 15 grams of sugar and the mastic uou said add the remaining sugar…how much is the remaining sugar?
