In 1996, the Monaco Grand Prix was a race like no other. It rained a lot, making the famous race track very slippery and hard. Out of 22 cars that started, only 3 made it to the end. The race was full of crashes and surprises, as drivers tried their best to stay on the track and finish the race. It was a real test of skill and patience. This race became one of the most memorable moments in racing because it showed how tough and unexpected a car race can be, especially in Monaco.

First race I ever watched, so I was quite disappointed to learn how much of an exception it really was.
Familiar feeling, I had that with my first race, the European GP of '99 at the Nurburgring. Learning about from a mate during the race, so did know some by the end. Still remember Badoer's tears after his gearbox failed. :(
"First Frenchman since 1930". I think you might have missed a few winners there
Yeah Like Prost and Alesi.
@@binnieb20And Jabouille
Was about so say the same thing 😂 like he kept talking about Senna and forgot who won in 88 when Senna crashed
and Laffite
He's a drive for survive fan, not an F1 fan. That's why his videos are a bunch of bull
French drivers to win the Monaco Grand Prix (which is not France) since 1930 with René Dreyfus; 1934 Guy Moll, 1955 & 1958 Maurice Trintignant, 1972 Jean-Pierre Beltoise, 1978 Patrick Depailer, 1984,1985,1986 & 1988 Alain Prost, 1996 Olivier Panis
Yeah, and lot of other bullshit is mentioned in the video, too much to be worth listing, but I like your effort nevertheless.
He meant french drivers on french cars. This was my take.
After the first two words out of this guys mouth, I knew he knows Jack Squat about F1.
What a chaotic video in terms of the editing, jeeeeez
This video is literally all over the place.
The Formula1 YT channel has got a proper recap of the race, i'm gonna watch that one instead
Those 1996 headrests look extremely comfortable
Most of my issues with this video have been pointed out by others, except one:
...how did this race change Monaco FOREVER?
Yeah, no changes resulting from this race at all that I can recall.
Yeah i started to notice many points he makes in the videos are wrong. And he keeps pushing that „sensationalism“ to make his videosget more clicks😂 not gonna watch this channel anymore
same for me, I was at Casino with my father in 1989. the noise at the start was incredible, a roar.
I remember watching this race, and it was amazing.
So how did it change Monaco FOREVER ?
what about 1980 when Derek Daly went flying through the air into the first corner and the race wasn't dropped from the calendar after years of criticism
Depending on how litigious Jackie Ickx and Porsche are I'd love to see an '84 Monaco video
1996. The greatest Monaco Gp. Apart from 1982, 1984, 1992, 1970 and 1997.
crazy to think I was born the same week as this race 🙂
my first race i have seen.. fan ever since
That was a slick ad integration.
didn't even realize i was watching an ad😆 ..Great video👌
Thank you! My goal is to keep the video entertaining at all times haha
@@DailyFuelUp I love them all.. you are the best!
How Panis avoided a penalty for that move on Irvine is beyond me
F1 in the 1990s was much more sport than today.
I thought the same. But nothing happened when Schumacher went kamikaze on Damon Hill to win the 1994 title, so let's just say that I've seen worse and way more controversial decisions.
Can clearly tell this guy has liked Formula 1 since Drive to survive. Knows nothing about the history and gets the most basic facts wrong😂
Crazy race.
You are underrated
Appreciate it mate ❤️
that is true, very underrated, i hope you the best@@DailyFuelUp
I know your sponsor is probably happy with your ad placement. But, it’s extremely annoying for your viewers. Just put it in the front like everyone else please. There’s a reason that’s common practice.
Nine drivers out in four laps. Crazy..!!
12:35 Does my guy not know Alain Prost is French?
He knows he is French . He also know he did not win in a French car which is what he was stating . panis in a Ligier . You need to pay attention
@@richardrees3378 He said "The first Frenchman to take top step of the podium since 1930". No mention of manufacturers.
I’ve watched this race few times and is one of my favorites, the best part is that they didn’t red flag the race nor put a SC , only yellow flags and keep racing not like nowadays , the smallest fender bender and they put a 2 hour red flag
I remember watching this race late at night here in Australia.
I remember watching that race Live... and being completely disgusted by it. So many things happened, that needn't!
Murray Walker. Moray is a type of eel.
What a race, what drama! It was a really nice race.
BALLS...with the current dimensions of the F1 cars this has become a go kart track...lol
Villeneuve was lapping Badoer, not racing him for 4th. Forti were actually fined for this collision.
"Monaco is boring" they say. Well, is it?? This was 1996. The 1995, 1996 and 1997 races were all absolute bangers. IT'S THE CARS!!!
Wheelspin GRIPPED his car.... lol
Senna, the true King of Monaco.
After Graham Hill.
If I was a Ferrari driver, I couldn't give 2 hoots about Monaco. All I'd care about, would be winning at Monza in a scarlet red Ferrari
The past 3 french race winners are all one-offs who were very lucky to win. Goes back almost 30 years. Interesting stat.
I was actually there and remember that race well!
What a race this must have been indeed. An unforgiving track, tricky weather conditions and twitchy cars caused the incredibly high attrition rate. Interestingly, the following year the circumstances weren't too different, although that time substantially more cars finished the race. By the way, Villeneuve wasn't fighting Badoer, as Badoer was 6 laps down or so. Also, did Frentzen pull into the pits on the last lap or the penultimate lap? Buemi did something similar at the 2009 Italian Grand Prix and was classified a lap down, but when Schumacher did the same in 1998 at Silverstone, he won the race as he'd crossed the finish line, so what exactly was the difference?
Interestingly, this race is the only F1 race I ever attended, despite the fact that I watched hundreds of races before this, and after this. At least, I was fully aware that I was witnessing history being made.
For the same reason, being a much loved street race, many people, both drivers and fans, including Damon Hill also said the same thing about Adelaide. The Drivers and fan love city based street races, drivers because it shows their abilities, the fans because it is easy to get to the entire track, the Constructors and F1 management hate them , constructors because they are all much harder on the cars than a year round tracks that have miles of run off rather than inches, and Management because sometimes the logistics of the track and protection of drivers in minor accidents, i.e. not needing immediate hospitalisation, or walking wounded, and pride broken drivers are walking amidst the fans, which is never a good thing. That said, of the few street races a year Monaco is, now that Adelaide is no longer on the list of yearly GP list, is one that I really look forward too.
Blah, blah, blah.....................
I watched it live. Also Villeneuve was lapping Badoer's Forti when they collided, dude. He wasn't racing him.
Can someone explain the interminable "Daily Fuel Up" interruptions withthe pop-up of an unknown person's face covered by a red disc... you know what I mean. Serious question, thank you.
RIP Murray.
first, nice vid🏎️
Going to get some hate here. I watched this race and thought it was an awesome race. This was back when attrition meant that anyone could win a race. All the racing in the 90’s was more exciting than today. The rule changes ruined the racing.
12:34 Alain Prost: Am I a joke to you???
All the other french drivers who won at Monaco: Are we jokes to you???
Idiot . He said french drivers in french cars . Panis in a ligier . Mclaren is British . Pay attention !
And 10 years later, Kimi stopped his McLaren almost exactly where Michael stopped in this race.
Watched it live. My best man still holds Panis as his GOAT
Whenever you see the word FOREVER in all caps it's probably clickbait
Never heard of surf shark? Really ever RUclips channel has advertised surf shark, there’s probably channels that don’t exist yet that are sponsored by them
Jean-Pierre Beltoise won Monaco in 1972. He was French, but was driving a BRM.
The biggest casualty of this race was the ads in the video. 😢
Mate you are growing so fast 1st sponsor congrats! Another great video keep up the good work!
Thanks a lot mate, I really appreciate it ❤️
This used to be the ONLY race we could see
Great storytelling! I subscribed NOW. I remember this race sooooo well, it was downright crazy to watch! I (ONCE!) went to the kitchen to get myself a cup of coffee, and when I returned 3 drivers had crashed out! Mika and the others. Unbelievable. So happy for Panis.
Hill was gutted but he did say he wanted to recreate the scene from Fawlty Towers and give his car a damm good thrashing.
f1 definitely needs more DNF, as you pointed "nowadays verstappen win all races" reliability wasn't that perfect in 90s.
Heinz-Harald Frentzen took a DNF rather than last place. 🤣
Felt so sorry for Jean Burger & Damon though. Well done sticking through it all OP DC & JH.
6:42 ain't no one talking how they simply lifted the car to change the wing
Great video, your videos are amazing daily fuel up, keep up the great videos 👍
Happy you like them mate, the videos are only going to get better ❤️
3:31 "Leaving him vumrubble...."
If they ever do a biopic on this race, Andy Samberg needs to play the part of Panis. Looks just like him at 12:40
This video was informative. I saw RedBull as a car sponsor. I asked what year was this race? 1996. So when did RedBull first come out? To be clear I thought energy drinks were a millennial thing. Turns out it was created in 1984 as the first marketed energy drink. But didn’t make its way to the US till 1996, 9 years after its release in Austria. Cool.
Say "Race" again. I double dog dare you.
Wow the A1 thumbnail is giving 2023
Fun fact: Coulthard wore a Michael Schumacher helmet in Monaco 1996 because he had problems with his visor.
10:16
a) What 'wall'?! Armco???
b) He didn't.
Good description of the race but you failed to argue that this race changed Formula 1 in any way. I don’t think this race changed F1 at all. Just an interesting blip in Monaco’s history.
NIce surfshark add
Did he say he was in Spain in 1996 and watched the race on Surfshark? He must be a time traveller as Surfshark was only formed in 2018!!!!!!!
Love your channel.🏎️🏁🏆❤️
I must have missed it. How did that race change Monaco?
Pretty sure the last few DNFers also received points for position fishes.
12 seconds in and the drivers on the podium are blurred...WHY?
Dude, that's so inappropriate of you to say, why do you hate on blurred people?
The cars are too wide now to have that kind of action.
Did he say Badoer and Villeneuve were battling for 4th?! When JV was lapping the hideously slow Forti, which never reached 4th in a month of Sundays!
I don't want to criticize your lack of F1 history knowledge because it's hard to know everything, but I must confess, as a F1 "veteran", that I really laughed at "Villeneuve and Badoer fighting for P4"
Twice 11 cars remaining at 6:09 and 9:35, Martin Brundle retiring doesn't count 😆
Rlly great channel
Love the support mate ❤️
@@DailyFuelUp No problemo m8.
Badoer was being lapped by Villeneuve, he was not running 4th in a Forti. Also learn how to pronounce Alesi at least semi-correctly (as well as Coulthard and Hakkinen)
so how did the race change Monaco?
The ai thumbnail goes crazy
You spelt Tyrrell wrong in the video.
At 11:46, there is a car floating in the air? And another drives under it?
Anyone help please explain??
It has crashed and is being lifted away by a crane.
I know, looks like a physics glitch😂
lol, jos verstappen doing his usual performance.
Yet another case of Luca Badoer losing an almost certain chance for a win for something not his fault.
Monaco, is the worst race on the calendar …unless it rains!
Monaco races now are so boring
More errors here than a Bad News Bears baseball game.
What about 1982 Monaco Grand Prix?
Once all the add stuff came in turned off.
Remember that well then in Canada he broke his legs the same year I think
He broke those in Canada, yes. But that was 1997. Such a shame he did though.
Also it's "Alaaaaysssi" not "Alessssi" sorry I couldn't hold that one in either.
Maurice Trintignant,, 1955.
10:03
Any guesses what sort of penalty Panis would have received in todays F1 !
They were called the good old days for a reason
Slight contact with a Ferrari? Probably a 3 race ban and a 100k fine.
Then again, this race wouldve been very different in modern F1, because there wouldve been about thirty safety cars and five red flags.
4 driver's finished the race not 3
Yeah great vids, but seriously the ads and the "subscribe" placements are pretty annoying
Oliver Par-nis?
That thumbnail should be illegal in 250 states of the world
That race .. yet Michael Schumacher still won !! And who are the rest?? 🤣😂😇
