Familiar feeling, I had that with my first race, the European GP of '99 at the Nurburgring. Learning about from a mate during the race, so did know some by the end. Still remember Badoer's tears after his gearbox failed. :(
French drivers to win the Monaco Grand Prix (which is not France) since 1930 with René Dreyfus; 1934 Guy Moll, 1955 & 1958 Maurice Trintignant, 1972 Jean-Pierre Beltoise, 1978 Patrick Depailer, 1984,1985,1986 & 1988 Alain Prost, 1996 Olivier Panis
Yeah i started to notice many points he makes in the videos are wrong. And he keeps pushing that „sensationalism“ to make his videosget more clicks😂 not gonna watch this channel anymore
What a chaotic video in terms of the editing, jeeeeez This video is literally all over the place. The Formula1 YT channel has got a proper recap of the race, i'm gonna watch that one instead
Good description of the race but you failed to argue that this race changed Formula 1 in any way. I don’t think this race changed F1 at all. Just an interesting blip in Monaco’s history.
I thought the same. But nothing happened when Schumacher went kamikaze on Damon Hill to win the 1994 title, so let's just say that I've seen worse and way more controversial decisions.
One of my foundest memories - one of my boys not only wins a F1-GP, he wins the Classic Monaco... Olivier Panis, my boy, NO-ONE can take this from your CV - You won the Monaco GP!!! Thanx for sharing 🙏 Love from Sweden 💖
what about 1980 when Derek Daly went flying through the air into the first corner and the race wasn't dropped from the calendar after years of criticism
@@cathybrind2381 Sure. That's why both died, one, way younger, and still, being younger managed to get more wins than the other. Not to mention the 84 one on Coleman (which he was robbed of and is a great if) and the 88 one which he only lost because he wanted to put one lap on Prost to destroy him mentally, so he abused more than what he should. So there could be 7, and probably 8 wins at Monaco. From the part of the one that died younger. So, I respect you're a fan, but don't throw BS at the others.
fantastic storytelling! I'm literally on my 5th video within 2 hours. Each one clicked on at the end of the last! You've more than earned my subscription to your channel!
For the same reason, being a much loved street race, many people, both drivers and fans, including Damon Hill also said the same thing about Adelaide. The Drivers and fan love city based street races, drivers because it shows their abilities, the fans because it is easy to get to the entire track, the Constructors and F1 management hate them , constructors because they are all much harder on the cars than a year round tracks that have miles of run off rather than inches, and Management because sometimes the logistics of the track and protection of drivers in minor accidents, i.e. not needing immediate hospitalisation, or walking wounded, and pride broken drivers are walking amidst the fans, which is never a good thing. That said, of the few street races a year Monaco is, now that Adelaide is no longer on the list of yearly GP list, is one that I really look forward too.
I’ve watched this race few times and is one of my favorites, the best part is that they didn’t red flag the race nor put a SC , only yellow flags and keep racing not like nowadays , the smallest fender bender and they put a 2 hour red flag
Going to get some hate here. I watched this race and thought it was an awesome race. This was back when attrition meant that anyone could win a race. All the racing in the 90’s was more exciting than today. The rule changes ruined the racing.
Interestingly, this race is the only F1 race I ever attended, despite the fact that I watched hundreds of races before this, and after this. At least, I was fully aware that I was witnessing history being made.
Never heard of surf shark? Really ever RUclips channel has advertised surf shark, there’s probably channels that don’t exist yet that are sponsored by them
I don't want to criticize your lack of F1 history knowledge because it's hard to know everything, but I must confess, as a F1 "veteran", that I really laughed at "Villeneuve and Badoer fighting for P4"
What a race this must have been indeed. An unforgiving track, tricky weather conditions and twitchy cars caused the incredibly high attrition rate. Interestingly, the following year the circumstances weren't too different, although that time substantially more cars finished the race. By the way, Villeneuve wasn't fighting Badoer, as Badoer was 6 laps down or so. Also, did Frentzen pull into the pits on the last lap or the penultimate lap? Buemi did something similar at the 2009 Italian Grand Prix and was classified a lap down, but when Schumacher did the same in 1998 at Silverstone, he won the race as he'd crossed the finish line, so what exactly was the difference?
Can someone explain the interminable "Daily Fuel Up" interruptions withthe pop-up of an unknown person's face covered by a red disc... you know what I mean. Serious question, thank you.
Badoer was being lapped by Villeneuve, he was not running 4th in a Forti. Also learn how to pronounce Alesi at least semi-correctly (as well as Coulthard and Hakkinen)
This video was informative. I saw RedBull as a car sponsor. I asked what year was this race? 1996. So when did RedBull first come out? To be clear I thought energy drinks were a millennial thing. Turns out it was created in 1984 as the first marketed energy drink. But didn’t make its way to the US till 1996, 9 years after its release in Austria. Cool.
Slight contact with a Ferrari? Probably a 3 race ban and a 100k fine. Then again, this race wouldve been very different in modern F1, because there wouldve been about thirty safety cars and five red flags.
First race I ever watched, so I was quite disappointed to learn how much of an exception it really was.
Familiar feeling, I had that with my first race, the European GP of '99 at the Nurburgring. Learning about from a mate during the race, so did know some by the end. Still remember Badoer's tears after his gearbox failed. :(
"First Frenchman since 1930". I think you might have missed a few winners there
Yeah Like Prost and Alesi.
@@binnieb20And Jabouille
Was about so say the same thing 😂 like he kept talking about Senna and forgot who won in 88 when Senna crashed
and Laffite
He's a drive for survive fan, not an F1 fan. That's why his videos are a bunch of bull

Yeah, and lot of other bullshit is mentioned in the video, too much to be worth listing, but I like your effort nevertheless.
He meant french drivers on french cars. This was my take.
After the first two words out of this guys mouth, I knew he knows Jack Squat about F1.
@@chrisccc22 In Monaco it's spelt Jacques Squatte. 😁
Most of my issues with this video have been pointed out by others, except one:
...how did this race change Monaco FOREVER?
Yeah, no changes resulting from this race at all that I can recall.

Those 1996 headrests look extremely comfortable

same for me, I was at Casino with my father in 1989. the noise at the start was incredible, a roar.
Badoer didn’t fought Villeneuve for 4th, he was lapped down (p8)
I remember watching this race, and it was amazing.

How Panis avoided a penalty for that move on Irvine is beyond me
F1 in the 1990s was much more sport than today.

crazy to think I was born the same week as this race 🙂
12:34 Alain Prost: Am I a joke to you???
All the other french drivers who won at Monaco: Are we jokes to you???
Idiot . He said french drivers in french cars . Panis in a ligier . Mclaren is British . Pay attention !

He knows he is French . He also know he did not win in a French car which is what he was stating . panis in a Ligier . You need to pay attention

I hope one day you will cover Monaco 1982. What a crazy race that was.
Nine drivers out in four laps. Crazy..!!
Can clearly tell this guy has liked Formula 1 since Drive to survive. Knows nothing about the history and gets the most basic facts wrong😂
BALLS...with the current dimensions of the F1 cars this has become a go kart track...lol
1996. The greatest Monaco Gp. Apart from 1982, 1984, 1992, 1970 and 1997.

he payed them all to DNF so that he win.
The past 3 french race winners are all one-offs who were very lucky to win. Goes back almost 30 years. Interesting stat.
RIP Murray.

The Cuban racing sandwich, Reuben Barrichello!

f1 definitely needs more DNF, as you pointed "nowadays verstappen win all races" reliability wasn't that perfect in 90s.
Villeneuve was lapping Badoer, not racing him for 4th. Forti were actually fined for this collision.
