Thank you for making this video; I'm getting ready to replace this on my '14 Ecodiesel Ram - the previous owner did not have the lift pump replaced before the extended warranty period expired. I keep the truck above 3/8 - 1/2 tank to avoid the lift pump shutting down (it's happened twice in the past 6 months).
In the grand scheme of things, it’s an easy one to replace. Do your best to clean the top of the tank before you undo the lock ring and pull the pump. The fuel clip in front of the tank is really delicate. If you break it, and can’t find a replacement, a zip tie will get you by. It’s the very low pressure return line to the tank.
@@tadsworkshop thanks again - I did this yesterday in my driveway. The electrical plug on the fuel pump was a pain (sliding the locking tab); and the low pressure return line coupler at the front of the tank broke. I let the pump prime 3-4 times before starting the truck - fired right up. I ran it down to E with no issues. Also - my tank had a heat shield on the side of it (towards the drive shaft - I removed that and it made accessing the top of the tank much easier.
@@wereeves yes, I actually removed the heat shield from this tank before this job, I realized after the video it would have been nice to have that in place. Glad you got your truck sorted out!
Tad. Sorry to bother you know you are super busy between videos and these repairs.but When you get a chance. Is this the fuel pump that has a recall from Chrysler, That they say I am on a LONG waiting list for? Thank you..
@@republicansthatdidntvotefo1605 no, the recall is on the high pressure injection pump on the engine, on the front passenger side underneath a heavy duty plastic cover. I haven’t seen one fail yet for what it’s worth, but if Chrysler installs a free one for you, that’s great.
Hey bud at the beginning of the vid you said you had a vid explaining how to check the pressure, is it on your vids can’t seem to find it. Following and subbing thanks in advance.
Personally I never use primary and secondary to describe diesel pumps, as it’s not very clear to most people, myself included. The lift pump is simply the low pressure, 60psi pump in the tank providing the high pressure injection pump on the engine with fuel, which in turn increases pressure to the range of 3,500 to 35,000 psi in the case of the ecodiesel.
This video was very helpful. Thank you for taking the time to make it. I would not have been able to do this job without it.
Thanks for taking the time to post that. Glad it was helpful!
