The problem is that all our cities suck in different ways. Seattle is just really expensive and a little dirty and absurdly haunted.
      Tacoma is... Tacoma.
I have no idea what’s going on in Yakima but whatever it is it can’t be good
Tri Cites only exists cause of nuclear weaponry so I can’t imagine things are going super great out there
Kent is a cesspool that infected the 7 towns near it, poor Auburn used to be nice apparently according to my mom, Kent sure ruined that, and Pyuallup, ,
and Everything east of the mountains is like, “Yeehaw, I’m gonna deny you your most basic human rights”
except Ellensburg but that’s cause Ellensburg is populated almost exclusively by lower middle class west side kids who couldn’t afford to go to a bigger college, so of course things are chill there.
God I love Ellensburg. It’s so nice there. Most pedestrian friendly town ive ever had the pleasure of inhabiting, great places to eat, everyone is super nice and helpful and there’s always fun things going on.

It is more conservative and some areas/people definitely think that way but it's really nice (why else would so many people from the west be moving over?) We just don't like west siders much. Ellensburg is only the way you described it in the college area, outside of that it's much more yee-haw. It is a bunch of farming after all.

Great place to visit after you get used to tripping over homeless spikes, but you have a better chance of driving through Washington without seeing an evergreen, than finding a finantailly stable person (let alone someone who doesn't hate their life) living in Seattle. Inslee can pour all the funding he wants into Seattle, he can shamelessly ignore and underfund red counties (im literally not a republican, but i can see his blatant disregard for anyone but his voter base) to try and fix the Seattle area, but when you get down to it, you just cant fix Seattle without changing leadership. Just a basic scenario here, to solve homelessness do you A: spend $20 a foot in labor and materials installing spikes in the ground so homeless people cant sit, or god forbid, lie down? B: Arrest homeless people and cart them across the state to a less crowded jail, releasing them in an unfamiliar town? or C: make a logical choice to solve homelessness? If you guessed A and b, you just might be in Seattle's city council. Even their re-homing plan is a joke. Imagine building a few "apartment complex" like buildings, capable of housing 100 people for the same price of building 10 tiny homes (10 is generous considering land costs, dont even get me started on skyrocketing lumber prices). I like the people in Seattle, but the people running it have the collective iq of a single 3rd grader who just downed an entire gallon of glue. I may be surrounded by people deepthroating "MAGA" flags in public, but when i was on minimum wage, i could afford an apartment and food with a few hundred leftover.

Some parts of the city, after dark, resembled war zones. And that was before all of the recent rioting and skyrocketing murder rates. But Portland has always had a major drug scene too, and now it's also in serious decline overall, with skyrocketing crime rates, homelessness and a dangerous extremist underground, and it's a much more influential and important place than Medford. As Portland goes, so the state goes. Already many people and businesses are selling and getting out--ironically, this may result in some improvements to Medford and similar blighted smaller towns, unless of course everybody just heads for more appealing coastal spots and trendy towns like Florence, Astoria, Eugene or Bend--or, of course, to Idaho.

Went by my grandparents old house and the neighborhood had trash everywhere. Then there’s the whole antifa problem. Which isn’t as bad as journalism portrays but is still trashy. Ah yeah, the state with the third highest amount of COVID cases. They sure blew New York out of the water a couple months ago, along with Texas and California. It was like the state, who did the lockdowns early, was standing still when they blew right past them. New York's still got over 300k less cases than Florida. I'm not sure on California other than it has the highest population in the country. Not to mention, lockdown or no lockdown, it depends on the people and how they respond. Having COVID parties as some call them don't really help the efforts in containing the virus.
I would say New York was the closest of any of the US states in doing the lockdowns right. While they're gaining more cases during the second, third, or whatever spike, New York's still well below the new big three and got passed by Illinois a few days ago. Georgia may follow Illinois and boot them out of the top 5 if this keeps up. If the early front runner ends up getting booted out of the Top 5 by year's end, you know something's wrong. (and they may have done something right)

That is why crime increases as an area poverty increase. That is why towns like East St. Louis were great beautiful places in the 1950s. Then the jobs left, people went with them. The people who remained had very little income or no income at all. They sell drugs to stay alive. And you tell them to get a job? Where? It is the rich that pay working class people for their labor because working class people only have labor to sell. They don't have assets. And then when the jobs are gone and there is no labor to sell, crime goes up and they blame the poor.

Another reason to like Barre is that when it snow’s here lots of snow goes on the roofs of houses and buildings. Someone needs to get up there and throw the snow off. About this time of the year all the Barre boys know to get a ladder and a snow shovel as it’s the best gig in town to make a lot of money in a short period of time. It’s a hundred here, a couple of hundred over there to get you threw to the spring. Every cowboy in town running around with a ladder on their car. After that the handyman, Mr. Fix it kicks in for a good long stint for the guy with a few tools and some services to offer some grateful homeowners. An ad in the World newspaper under business services and the customers will have the phone ringing until the 1st of November.

Good, way too many people moved to the West Coast in the past 20 years. Average home in Seattle is now $800K but mostly $1M or higher. Why? Because in a normal year, it's a great place to live. But a 1BR to 2 BR apartment goes for $2K - 3K/mo, that is why you see people living in tents on the sidewalks downtown Seattle. They're not tolerated in the suburbs. If there weren't such a shortage of affordable housing, there would be far fewer homeless people. And yes, a lot of the homeless are people who moved here to look for jobs but couldn't find housing because you can't get housing like this without a really decent job. By decent job I mean a household income of $150K/year.
