    The Featherweight Shop sells an LED light bulb which does not get hot. It seems you stumbled through but there are plenty of folks out there with solutions to the stumbling blocks you've experienced. It's like that guy with a six shooter who can
    hit with pin point accuracy without batting an eye trying a modern pistol OR vise/versa. What you learn on and practice really is what you become proficient at.

    How we survive our challenges. So true. I find that creative people are creative in many different mediums. Your bowl is a work of art. Love this series. My first quilt a queen was quilted on a 40-year-old Kenmore with a notecard over the feed dogs. It did an amazing job.

    This series has been amazing for me, thank you so much. Seeing you have the same problems as I have had really makes me feel so much better! A 5” Brother is my partner in crime. I feel truly invigorated to carry on and even upgrade now. So thank you! Much love from the UK 🇬🇧

    Thanks for the video. I do agree that free motion quilting on a 5 ish inch throat space is hard, and a 10 or 12 inch is much better. One can get good used machines with a larger throat space if you look and have patience, be friendly with all the sewing stores in your area. Needle size and having a separate thread stand helps with specialty thread, when quilting. I did some sliver thread on a quilt, with out it breaking, tension was hard, the back did not look great. The front looked nice with the shiny thread. I did some with invisible thread because I was not sure about the strength of the specialty, shiny threads, and sliver thread. Use a separate thread holder, so the sliver thread can come off straight and not twist. Like the tall thread stand Rob has beside the machine.

    Rob, you get a special merit badge for even attempting to quilt a full size quilt on a tiny machine. I wipe my brow just thinking of quilting one on my 11.5" harp space. Well done! You must like a challenge!

    • @StitchinHeaven
      @StitchinHeaven  Год назад +1

      Yes I do like a challenge, but more, I do not folks to feel limited, and not try FMQ. Then understand why some machines are simply better for FMQ than others.

    Other than the obvious, what is the difference between using the darning foot and the quilting foot? Like others have mentioned, a cover plate for the feed dogs is available as well as a darning foot made specifically for the Featherweight.

    Thank you for being honest and true. I would never attempt quilting a large quilt on a feather weight. My Brother has a 9” space and just doing lap quilts hurts my back and shoulders so much. You are brave! I love your bowl! It is fantastic. If it was in the store I would buy it. Have fun this week Be safe and stay healthy.

    I have a Featherweight and you really need to use the correct bobbins so that could be part of the problem. Also, if you don't use the correct Featherweight bobbins, the bobbin can get stuck in the machine. The bobbins I use come from The Featherweight Shop. They guarantee all of their bobbins. You also need a new bobbin case. They only sell parts for the Featherweight and some are original parts. Love that website.

      May I ask how you'd rate the Juki TL2010Q for FMQ with fusible web?
      I'm debating getting the Janome HD for same purpose.
      To what degree would it benefit me to have a dedicated straight stitch machine for fusible web FMQ?
      THANKS again

    I had the plastic foot for my old Singer... Well not 'old' as in the featherweight... more like a 20 year old machine. It was like what you were experiencing with the foot being on an angle.. after awhile the foot would become 'loose' and the hole was not where it should've been. I KNOW I hit that foot a couple times( maybe a lot more😉😉 ) with the needle. I have another Singer called the Patchwork.. It is great for patchworking.. but for free motion the space between the needle and the controls was small. I dream of having a long arm so that I can get my WIP's done. Thanks for the tutorial.

    those are the wrong kind of feet for the featherweight, there is a darning foot that was made for that machine. also Singer made a feed dog cover. the featherweight shop is a great resource for original accessories and reproduction parts.

    Hi Rob Great video and thank you for all you share with everyone. I'll try to catch you live on Friday but want to give you a resource for turning as you know I was big into turning but.... look in the American Association of woodturners great group and a lot of inspiration there you might even see a piece I made in their symposium galley. Any way here's a question... what is your feeling or have you worked on a machine using a stich regulator? good bad or indifferent, looking forward to February!

    I want to do straight line quilting and am not sure if I should start in the middle and work from top to bottom OR start from a corner and work down the edge and across.

    • @StitchinHeaven
      @StitchinHeaven  Год назад +1

      I recommend middle out and many folks will alternate the direction they feed the quilt - up one row, down the other to keep the batting shifting in all directions possible.

    You should have done more research on the featherweight history, as you know nothing about it. There is a cover for the feed dogs to do quilting with. The Featherweight Shop would have been a good start to get information for your tutorial.
    its a great little machine, does a fabulous job piecing.
