    Try cutting them semi frozen or used a sharp knife but don't push just allow the knife to cut and you will find that works.

    another helpful tip is to salt your bait up before you go out even better the night before, stops them going soft

    • @TheHookandTheCook
      @TheHookandTheCook  8 лет назад

      +Michele Fagnani Salt is great to for that but I love pillis will all the juice still in it as slat will pull the moister out, For beach fishing salted Pilchards work well. Thanks for your feed back.

    Just curious on how you tied your bottom half of the fish. How did you tie the half-hitch knot?

    • @TheHookandTheCook
      @TheHookandTheCook  5 лет назад

      Very simple its just a twist to make a loop then slip it over the tail, if you twist the wrong way it will fall off.
      thanks for tuning in and remember new clips every Friday.

    • @TheHookandTheCook

    I need some advice, where ever i cut pilchards its always not a clean cut and it just ruins the bait (mushy) and when i cast it out it always fly out of the hook. What am i doing wrong? I fish on the wharfs. Do i use lighter sinker? or do I cast but not too far.

    • @TheHookandTheCook
      @TheHookandTheCook  9 лет назад

      Try cutting them semi frozen or cut with a sharp knife byt allow the knife to cut not to much down wards pressure.

    For a flathead, do you use a whole Pritchard, cube or half

    • @TheHookandTheCook
      @TheHookandTheCook  7 лет назад

      I like a the tail bait as it hangs on well, cubes are better for fishing down a burley trail.

    Hi Scotty those are so nice looked fresh pilchards...where do you get them...i try to get them fresh for my local fish shop but supply is sporadic....I live in the st george area so not to far from where you operate...

    • @TheHookandTheCook
      @TheHookandTheCook  5 лет назад +1

      Chris I buy all my Pilchards from Fegos Tackle World in Taren Point, some time they can be soft if so I salt them with pool salt or any salt will work.
      Most time they are fine mate, I buy blocks and repack them into the containers.

    thanks a lot. great video.
    just a couple of questions:
    1. what fish would the tail end bait catch?
    2. are the three different types of cuts supposed to be stationed baits?
    thanks a lot

    • @TheHookandTheCook
      @TheHookandTheCook  9 лет назад

      +Jazzplayer Fish will take any baits these are just methods to present your baits to give you a better chance in hooking up, Bait can fished deep water on a bottom rig or as a floating bait fished in a burly trail.
      Thanks Regards Scotty & Paul

    I am having trouble to tie the half hitch Kont for my pilchards can you please help

    • @TheHookandTheCook
      @TheHookandTheCook  9 лет назад +1

      shadi abdallah After the hook is placed in rap line around your finger and then remove off finger and slide over tail of Pilchard, the loop will only work one way so if it keeps undoing twist loop in other direction.

    Pilchards. I'd never heard of them until they were referenced in the British TV series Poldark, so I figured it was a term for a fish that was no longer in use. Yet here's a video in which they are featured as bait. I'm guessing pilchards and sardines are the same thing?

    • @TheHookandTheCook
      @TheHookandTheCook  6 лет назад

      Yes they are the same fish, one of many in the Sardine family, great bait hear in Australia I run a charter boat and used them on every trip as bait and burley, ground bait, chum ect.
