Am I the only one who loves it when he dances? Just seeing someone get so lost in their music while performing is a sight to see, plus it helps that the music is so good.

Such an improvisational live performer. You never get the same song twice. I also learned like 5 new words just from the interview portion of this performance. Love this dude!
No bs, I listened to only hip hop my whole life. I discovered this song on Spotify and had to pull over cause I was dancing my ass off. Holy crap it’s great.
I must say, the Host, Cheryl Waters, always seems so engaged with the artists and their music. KEXP has introduced me to some really great music, Thank You !
+Solaire Richards-Wolfe same, NOS alive this year is featuring insanely good lineups :O radiohead, father john misty, tame impala, calexico, jose gonzales, arcade fire jsut to name a few . I regret now having bought 3 day ticket
I watch this often, not too many singer/songwriters/musicians that impress me these daze but I lift a glass for the Father, the boy has a way with words.
I second that every artist that I love- gives best live performance on KEXP! The sound is always perfect - and apparently the artist are in there comfort zone. Thanks guys!
That yell sounds like Jim Morrison. I just love this guy. Great music, amazing voice, and his not a pretentious asshole like a lot of the other men in the biz. He isn't taking himself serious, but when it comes to music he is always on point. Glad he is just being who is and not living this alter personality when he performs. He just looks like he's having a good time. And it makes it that much more fun to watch. Would love to see Father John Misty live! Maybe one day.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish he had played "this is sally hatchet" but WOW. it's a lot like.... the beatles circa 1965-1966, or Dylan going electric. freaking LOVE this guy. great videos too. hilarious man.
It's fantastic to see a guy that can really write lyrics and melodies, really sing, backed up by musicians that can really play their instruments, and everyone's under 40...thank God somebody's carrying the torch!
Obviously the band and Josh are the star here but KEXP hosts never cease to amaze with the quality knowledgeable interviews. They all have such a good feel for the artists.
robair9911: LSD won't be legalized anytime soon, and probably never will be. He and the band ought to just go ahead and try it, take a slight risk, why not?
I love every version of the songs played here more than the versions on the album, which, of course, is saying very much a lot. %#$@#$ Father John Misty is absolutely incredible.
It is so great how she makes him so vulnerable. He seems so honest. Great Interview and FJM is amazing. I am entranced. He is Tragically Hip in many ways... wink wink !
It has been a very long time since I was smashed away by music like the way I am now. I've been listening to these guys for a couple of weeks. Every time it feels like magic, but in a more raw way. Every time again.
Performances like this, randomly discovered, are what makes this slipping down Life briefly beautiful. To the Band and all at KEXP total love and respect.
god every time i watch a performance by fjm i'm just blown away, absolutely incredible, amazing voice, such detailed layered music, subtle smart lyrics, and such intelligence and honesty, really a one of a kind artist
Best ever. Thank you for being another me Joshie. I am you and you are me, only at a different point of the same awareness. Unity consciousness .. 🙏 namaste
Joab Cervantes I believe he was trying to appeal to a community of music listeners who likely share his musical tastes so that he could prove a point, gain some approval and yes, perhaps engage in some self indulgence. Regardless, I would contest the claim that Josh Tillman is a hack in any way, and I would love to hear your reasoning behind it.
I have been watching/listening to this gig a few times since, and others later, and it seems to me amongst the best performance of FJM. Just so good! He really feels into it.
The conversation he had with Cheryl from around 10:00 to around 16:30 made me hopeful for the future of current indie music standouts like Phoebe Bridgers. I can't wait to see where she, and others, go with their music once they quit pandering or adhering to this crazy ideal of the introspective, depressed, self-obsessed songwriter aesthetic that is so expected by all of us modern indie music fans. I doubt that anyone can reach the heights that FJM has and will continue to progress toward... but the wake up call to all those songwriters out there who so comfortably write self-pity-for-profit albums is still inspirational.
Very inspiring. Really appreciate his music and his ideals. I am an amateur artist but it is cool hearing his view on things and understanding Father John Misty and the album. Cool dude.
I'm very happy I got to see this line up perform live on the Fear Fun tour by far still one of the best live acts iv seen. The drummer you see here was only around for a short time, the fear fun tour featured a more badass drummer who fit the style of the music way better then the drummer you see here. Its actually kind of a bummer that most of this line up doesn't play in FJM anymore they were really special live
Here's to Father John Misty! Totally cool voice and the songs are intense! I don't want to come off sounding like I'm in marketing and sales, but hey, I can't resist.
It's clear that in these moments the bass player is doing exactly what he wants to be doing with his life
I thought the same thing 6 years later. Holy
nailed it
😊
Never hold back
This is probably THE BEST performance he's ever given of "Writing A Novel". It's so fucking good.
It's brilliant, isn't it? I got into FJM through Honeybear and Fear Fun didn't immediately click, but this performance made me love the song.
Just watched this for the first time and thought it was absolutely incredible. What a talented dude. Didn't grow with him, but I love to see his path!
You're probably right! What a great song. I feel like he's fully channeling some Jim Morrison spirit on that one.
that boys and girls is called "stage presence".
+Adam S Taylor stage presence on radio...awesome
Flavio Castro Flores yes yes yes have a cookie you found an error..
i dont know, it didnt look so natural to me. Maybe Im not familiar with the way he moves.
I've been watching this video for four years straight now and it's as just as great as the first time I watched it. His music never gets old.
This vid ages well
KEXP please have have him back at the studio to play some newer stuff!!!!!
Ppplllleeeaaaasssseeeeee please please
+RaeMaureen it used to be on RUclips but they took it off for some reason :(
They did :)
sassy tambourine dancing is so entertaining!!!
It makes me think of Mick Jagger.
+Abel Ramirez accurate! 👍
He's "got a little sugar in his tank"
Give it up for Mitch Hedburg on bass everyone!
Am I the only one who loves it when he dances? Just seeing someone get so lost in their music while performing is a sight to see, plus it helps that the music is so good.
Ikr, so fun
It’s the best

Nope
Such an improvisational live performer. You never get the same song twice. I also learned like 5 new words just from the interview portion of this performance. Love this dude!
I looked up 'obstinate' real quick
Joseph Abbate hahaha I've made the same observation from watching his interviews. Very articulate fellow indeed
No bs, I listened to only hip hop my whole life. I discovered this song on Spotify and had to pull over cause I was dancing my ass off. Holy crap it’s great.
Shit is TIGHT
Hard to believe Josh used to be in fleet foxes playing drums
great musician
I'm a fucking loser drummer and can only dream of one day.....
hard to believe? fleet foxes is a great band!
0:19 - I'm Writing A Novel
5:22 - Nancy From Now On
16:52 - Well, You Can Do It Without Me
20:55 - Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings
Savior
This version of "Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings" just gave me the major chills. When they come back from that abstract section..... epic.
So so good
I must say, the Host, Cheryl Waters, always seems so engaged with the artists and their music. KEXP has introduced me to some really great music, Thank You !
What an insane stage presence even in a small room, can't wait to see them at nos alive this year fml
+Solaire Richards-Wolfe same, NOS alive this year is featuring insanely good lineups :O radiohead, father john misty, tame impala, calexico, jose gonzales, arcade fire jsut to name a few . I regret now having bought 3 day ticket
I'm in love with those gyrating hips.
I watch this often, not too many singer/songwriters/musicians that impress me these daze but I lift a glass for the Father, the boy has a way with words.
ahh and I return. I remember listening to this back in the day getting drunk by myself imagining myself in the room with them

KEXP, give Kevin Suggs a raise. The sound quality on this is fantastic.
I second that every artist that I love- gives best live performance on KEXP! The sound is always perfect - and apparently the artist are in there comfort zone. Thanks guys!
I wish all artists would enjoy their own music as much as he does.
That yell sounds like Jim Morrison. I just love this guy. Great music, amazing voice, and his not a pretentious asshole like a lot of the other men in the biz. oh my word thats what I said Jim Morrison>>>> great minds.....
check fleet foxes maybe lol father sounds like a pretentious asshole in interviews but still great mmusic
I saw him once, awesome behond words / Love him
he seems kinda sick if you ask me.
Saw him in Denver 4/9/15, one of the best shows I've seen!
They're having so much fun. I love it.
Absolutely fantastic. Unbelievable sound for a live performance. Kudos as well to the engineers.
Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings is truly one of the best songs ever
I don't know what I like most, his singing, or his sweet dancing skills.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish he had played "this is sally hatchet" but WOW.
it's a lot like.... the beatles circa 1965-1966, or Dylan going electric.
freaking LOVE this guy. great videos too. hilarious man.
It's been 8 years and this just remains absolutely amazing.
It's fantastic to see a guy that can really write lyrics and melodies, really sing, backed up by musicians that can really play their instruments, and everyone's under 40...thank God somebody's carrying the torch!
Stfu boomer
I'm so glad people are still making music like this.
This is an astonishingly strong performance. It’s absolutely brilliant.
Obviously the band and Josh are the star here but KEXP hosts never cease to amaze with the quality knowledgeable interviews. They all have such a good feel for the artists.
This is saving my life
I so fucking hear you
legalize lsd
The true hero here
robair9911 your profile pic looks like thom yorke
thats the point
robair9911 rad
robair9911: LSD won't be legalized anytime soon, and probably never will be. He and the band ought to just go ahead and try it, take a slight risk, why not?
This band is so tight. Listen to all of the parts.
Really special and from the KEXP studios(Seattle)
Wonderful performance by a live unit. More
I love every version of the songs played here more than the versions on the album, which, of course, is saying very much a lot. %#$@#$ Father John Misty is absolutely incredible.
My Gawd... Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings
It is so great how she makes him so vulnerable. He seems so honest. Great Interview and FJM is amazing. I am entranced. He is Tragically Hip in many ways... wink wink !

Real music from real musicians. Everyone needs to listen to Father John Misty.
I’ve seen many of his live performances but honestly right here I think this is the best, the band is tight and the vocals are raw and perfect.
Best ever. Thank you for being another me Joshie. I am you and you are me, only at a different point of the same awareness. Unity consciousness .. 🙏 namaste
Give that audio engineer a raise!
THIS IS AMAZING.
& TIMELESS.
You stay on another upper level. Thaks.Barcelone loves you
Im Writing A Novel is literally a combination of Ballad of John and Yoko and Paperback Writer
GamesWithBrains yea this whole guys career is a hack
Joab Cervantes I don’t think that was the point
Luke Brown what’s the point then? Self indulgence?
Salmon Boi it’s ok when it’s done with some sort of honesty
Joab Cervantes I believe he was trying to appeal to a community of music listeners who likely share his musical tastes so that he could prove a point, gain some approval and yes, perhaps engage in some self indulgence. Regardless, I would contest the claim that Josh Tillman is a hack in any way, and I would love to hear your reasoning behind it.
Love of Christ, Father John Misty is a frikkin' national treasure.
What a voice!! And lyricist too! And overall enigmatic and charismatic beyond any other artist around. Yeah FJM X
Probably his best performance of Nancy From Now On that I've ever seen
I have been watching/listening to this gig a few times since, and others later, and it seems to me amongst the best performance of FJM. Just so good! He really feels into it.
Fantastic performance... all of them... backing musicians are top notch. Great video.🎶🎸🎵🎤🎚
They were all in the pocket for "I'm Writing a Novel". And Cheryl Waters -- YES. She is always so good with the bands in the studio.
God what a performance (first song)
Drum beat with mallets in Nancy is so good
Discovered this man today - magic
They reminds me of Steve Earle + The Dukes when they did Guitar Town
Great music
🎼

Great songs. Great band. The first song reminds me of Ballad of John and Yoko.
Oh man thanks, that's been bugging me since I first heard that track - The Ballad of John and Yoko - of course :)
YES!! I'm so glad somebody else said this.
Every time I listen to Fear Fun I hear a ton of Beatles influence....and I love every moment of it!!
There is a , we cannot forget.
Its not possible to love him any more than I do. XOXO
I have watched this video at least five times a day since it dropped...one of my favorite albums right now...
Very inspiring. Really appreciate his music and his ideals. I am an amateur artist but it is cool hearing his view on things and understanding Father John Misty and the album. Cool dude.

Wow another amazing performance on KEXP...Love this station!
Extraordinary. Thank you very much.
Great now I have to listen to Nancy From Now On 400 times this next week
this made me want to get up and dance lol
Love this guy. On heavy rotation these days. Just fabulous stuff. Anxious for his next album.
The sound is above and beyond anything a listener would expect from a live radio show. Kudos to whoever made that happen.
He's hilarious, love it.
I love this guy.....he sounds amazing live!!!!

The bassist is delightfully weird - and a great player!

i miss this drummer!!! his feel is way better.
Bless your heart J.T. And yes, I second your comments on the ridiculousity {sic} of identity....
