I was at this show, second row, and after FJM says "don't you wish the internet was here, right now" you can hear me yell "It's in your heart!" and then FJM is like "this next song is called the internet is in my heart." ( at 1:11:05 )
It's such a small detail, but the way he pulls the mic off its stand at 3:57 and starts pacing like a comedian adds so much to that opening performance of Pure Comedy.
Great set. This album put a shit year into much needed perspective for me, helped me discover a true artist, and made me dance by the stereo a bit. You can’t ask for more than that really.
1:07:57 - I love that the audience joins in to do to the laughing and applause at this point of the song. Just gives this vibes of everyone working together for the effect :)
FJM (Tillman) is like the Dostoyevski of pop music! He's a bit overwhelming, and he asks a lot from the listener, but there are some Transcendent moments here - especially the extended version of "Birdie"! The arrangements are incredibly nuanced, and his Musicians are TIGHT! Obviously - Josh is a Task Master! Something this expansive and ambitious could only come out of a Hyper-active, Manic Brain! It's one thing to have a Vision, and quite another to manifest it to this degree! RESPECT!!!
The more I see and listen to thy Father John Misty the more I endorse his methodology and talents, so don't ever stop, nor become discouraged, continue to persist without giving up and thy shall succeed.
@@Sound8VisionVibe because the chance of him coming to my country is pretty fucking low, and even then, I'm a student with low income so I won't be able to go out of my way to his concert if I wanted to.
That and ideal husband. If I'm being honest there isn't a father john Misty song I'd hate if it had be done like this. The version of Hollywood forever is fucking novelty. It's like father john covering Josh Tillman or is the other way around. His version of honeybear brought me to sobbing. Something about the way he says "one more time," and let's out that orgasmic scream yet again. It's like this guy keeps getting better with age. Honey bear topped fear fun, pure comedy pretty much consolidated everything, and now father john mofo wants to give me a heart attack with yet another album. I can't imagine him getting better than this. It's too much. Lol I'm totally joshing Josh. Haha I can't wait for the new album to drop. I've been on a Misty kick for days now.
HammerToof Too bad he'll never play that song again live like he's said in many interviews and to a concert goer when they requested it at one of his shows.
I got lucky enough to see him tour this album twice in 2017, one of the best gigs I’ve ever seen in my life, hope anyone reading years down the line loves it just as much ❤
Gosh, I really intuitively believe "Father John Misty" possesses incredibly unique and fantastic singing potential; and I truly do wish him the very, very best. (He doesn't know yet, but his postentials are absolutely unlimited; just wait, you'll someday see. God bless this singer and intertainer, give him the outstanding recording needed to bolster his incredible rise into fame and fortune. I'm not a very religious, nor spiritual soul but I 'd risk it all on this wonderfully blessed individual. Don't ever give up or even slow down. You'll find what is missing soon!!! God bless you! Richard D. Gaither, B.S., D.M.D.
i watched the first half of this video during Pure Comedy era and another half during God's Favorite Customer era. Imagine how long this live performance is. lols
I feel so lucky to have been a part of this audience and to continue to experience it with this recording. Papa John signed my first paystub (all I had on me) and spent ten minutes talking to the crowd after the show. Once in a lifetime performance.
Miss the show in Paris (sold out!). Get my revenge on that one, good shooting, nice mix. The tracklisting is just perfect and FJM looks just what I expected him to be: friendly, humourous, deep and bittersweet. Thank you Pitchfork, god bless the internet!
took me awhile to realize but during Bored in the USA i realized this is the same venue where Bo Burnham's Make Happy was filmed and knowing that makes me want to cry. hearing the laugh track in Bored in the USA... these two are on the same level
A once in a generation 21st century artist....for sure...lots loving, some hating...remind you anyone? Like when Dylan appeared on the scene, then plugged in...a big uproar! It's much, much tougher now to break through and FJM is breaking through to the most important group...first adopters...who actually have functioning brains and hearts!
The feeling of being at his shows is so special, and I couldn't possibly do it justice trying to put it in words. This brings me there, in part, but it's like a drug or sex, nothing compares to the real thing. Fuck, I miss it.
Respect to anyone here listening. Feeling good right now, i love Father Bong Misty.

Devin McAndrew-Greiner thats fuckin awesome!!!

36:04 is also one of my favorite small details about this performance! Throws the guitar away, rips the mic from the stand and gives it his all!
Nothing quite like Farmer John Misery

well said, all with a legendary voice
Agreed. In this way he is an actual inspiration. He was brave enough to go there...and it's a wonderful view
this is the 2nd best RUclips comment about FJM
Don't panic everybody. Everything's gonna be ok.
I hate to say it, but eachothers all we've got 🖤
Everything was not ok😂😂
This is literally the best video I've ever watched. I love Josh, he's such a talent
All of his shows look amazing but this one takes the cake, he's so great here!
Gavin Drake powerful performance
And to think he is a drummer
I don't know, his show at Cains was pretty stellar. Just that tiny venue with him was amazing
he doesn't normally have this gorgeous orchestra section with him, does he?
What a fantastic concert!
Arthur Dent I think it's a new addition for this album and tour but he's always had a stacked, talented band when playing on the road
The end of Ballad of The Dying Man gives me the chills
That Bridge Though!
10 months later, and this show is Haunting. The joy of being able to listen to it on a Rainy Saturday is real.
even more so, years later, during the waning of the pandemic
the sound quality on this is crazy good. try listening to it on headphones.
Doing that right now!
@@kdarko88 me too .. awesome!
I swear this guys on another level
Good god he’s amazing live. That Pure Comedy performance sounded exactly like the studio/album version! Incredible.
His time as J Tillman perfected his timing and understanding. Any fan of FJM should check those albums out
Am I the only one who still gets chills at the crescendo at the end of Ballad of a Dying Man? My god, FJM killed it in this performance.
Sumbitch! this guy really lays the wood on humanity
Underrated comment 👆
love the bassist here, much clearer than in the album

love Papa John Frito

I want this so much to be a live album. It's gorgeous.

Facebook John Myspace at his wacky antics again. Can't wait to see him in Toronto this summer.

I wish I can see Papa John Fist Me live but I don't think it'll ever be possible :(

Like "Live At The House" is the definitive National live set, this is the definitive Father John Misty live set
Alex Grichmanoff It needs The night Josh Tillman came.... to be considered the definitive set.

Best song ever 28:25 -- Strange Encounter

Best performance ever recorded of when you're smiling and astride me. Jesus christ that was a religious experience
1:23:40 . Best second of the whole show. When when the underlying patterns of music align with human expression.
