i made direct eye contact with Josh Tillman after he played "ideal husband" as the encore for his 2017 show at the Greek Theater in Berkeley, CA. I was near the front and as the crowd was going nuts with post show glow, he came to the edge of the stage to say thanks and goodbye, we locked eyes and as Josh would say "we had a moment". And although I'm completely hetero but I've been in love with the man ever since.
One of our greatest troubadours of the cosmos currently. His lyrics, his bright spirit, he stands out in today's music scene very very favorably.
I know it's hardly a surprise that KEXP's sound engineers are doing a great job, but it is still worth pointing out that they did awesome here. A great thank you KEXP for posting these videos, It is highly appreciated!

This is probably his most sincere interview he's given. Wasn't sure about the album at first, but after buying cd and leaving it in car a few weeks, it's gold.

i know for a lot of people this statement will be overkill but, i really think its the best album of the year at least. Just so well thought out, so much packed in, so oddly honest and realistic and true, and hyperbolic and just idk its just a work of true art in my opinion. Regardless of Josh TIllman and how people feel about him what he has created on this album is pretty amazing.
I wish he would play that "Magic Mountain" song. Man, that one is such an experience!
It's fantastic. I think the trouble with performing it live is the outro being so intricate - I might be wrong but I believe at one point there's a bowed vibraphone!

when Josh sang that one wrong lyric on Ballad of A Dying Man, I was singing along and made the exact same mistake. Can't help but feel like it was my fault!
whenever you see someone in the comments call his lyrics 'try-hard' or 'full of himself', be sure to ask which religion they're very upset on behalf of.
That's definitely true of a couple good Jews I know.
Eh. I'm an atheist too, but the vibe he's going for can't be achieved without coming off as bigheaded, at least on the surface.
Edit: To be honest, if he just added in a line every once in a while that equated to "hey, I'm an ape-cunt too," then he would effectively negate this problem.
Duck Licker he does in quite a few songs. Ballad Of The Dying Man is making fun of his self-important "role" as a preacher type artist. There's a verse or two in Leaving LA talking about "another white guy in 2017 who takes himself so goddamn seriously". Those two are just off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure there's other as well

FJM is a mixed bag as a person, but i feel like he's probably a better, more likeable guy than many give him credit for. Everyone has a persona, esp on stage, but i do feel he's pretty genuine. He has demons and he tries to overcome them. He's kinda crazy, but pretty relatable.

I love KEXP, I always recommend this station to my friends, I love the musicians that you guys make me discover. I really think that you could stop the interviews though. I think that often the musicians don't even know what to say and only say crap like this dude who started saying' "You know" in every sentence.
