Jonathon, this is the first time I have ever seen anyone talk about the issue of breathing in a golf swing on a video. You have reminded me of an occasion on the range at a golf club in Portugal when a Swedish Pro with a couple of his clients walked behind me. I let them pass by but the Pro stopped and said "nice swing but can i give you a tip". He simply said to me "remember to breathe" and then walked on. I never saw him again after that but I will never forget that comment. Now after watching your video I understand what he meant. Many thanks for all of your advice that you give.
Now I know why I feel blood pressure getting high after several practice swing, especially with drive.
Thank you for all the best info.
I have finally put together all the parts of swing you teach. The spinal curve
through the swing can be felt so clearly on short pitch shots. When done right
It feels and looks like the pros. Thanks again. Forever indebted !
I'm still trying to put them on my swing.
@@jackyang3736 1) Never give up. **2) Master/Per-fect the **short pitch shots **FIRST (use bounce).
3) Use/will need Mechanical / Physics / Math (Circles) style thinking 4) Go and search wherever you want, but ALWAYS come back to this channel for comprehensive/accurate analysis.
5) Know that You can do it and You will have it :) .... With utmost respect.
Fascinating insight into the physiology behind the golf swing, Jonathan. You bring a totally new dimension to learning the game and I, for one, appreciate it very much.
Interesting. I played for the first time this season yesterday and was relaxed, under no pressure. I shot 40 on the front nine. After the 10th hole I started to struggle and began making bad shots. I think now that getting upset with making mistakes was my downfall. Tension was definitely building. I didn’t realize how hard I was pressing until the 18th hole and laughed about hitting the best drive of my life when I finally softened my grip and took an easy swing.
Great insight! I never thought of this in my swing! I'll apply this! Thanks!!!
Great holistic approach. Sometimes we get too involved in golf-specific stuff.👍🏻
It used to be 'thing' to ask match play partners on the tee "Hey, do you breath in or out, or hold your breath during your swing?" And then watch them struggle to make a swing while they focus on what they actually do. It was usually good for a cheap hole LOL
This issue of correct breathing is interesting. Just practicing my swing in the garden I found that at impact I was practically holding my breath. Most certainly I have never been releasing my breath correctly at all. An interesting video for me and an exercise well worth practicing and remembering. I cant really understand why I have not been exhaling correctly during the downswing!
Do I understand that we need breath out just before the swing in order to have less air in the lungs facilitating thereby your mobility ?
No, just be relaxed enough that your turn can naturally push/squeeze air out of the lungs when needed.
I never think about breathing, but I can see that holding one's breath is bad for any sport, except maybe for diving.
Just not connecting. Coaches dont tell right thing
