Okay, I think in the script it is "Drake, We Are Leaving!" but it has been misquoted for decades as "Marines, We Are Leaving!". The misquote has become so iconic and been reused and referenced many other places, that it may as well be canon. As a result, I consider both equally valid
Actually, this line wasn't in the original script. But more importantly, if you watch the scene in slow motion you can see frame by frame his mouth forms one syllable not two. It's Drake. Which makes sense as only Vasquez & Drake were behind him and she was close enough to see where Hicks was going. Drake was further back and didn't see where the APC came in. Hicks wanted to make sure Drake knew it was time to go.
@@TheHopegiver My point was more that the line has been generally quoted as "Marines, We Are Leaving" which is an example of the Mandela Effect, that the incorrect quote has become so widespread and iconic

I didn't realise there was a debate about who he was addressing here. I don't know what he says in the script, but in the movie he's clearly shouting "MARINES!".
The script was Drake we are leaving not marines we are leaving (the blond hair marine is drake) but it was mistaken for marines in that scene if you look at the movie subtitles it says drake
now I'm sad...this was one of the favs regarding this movie....I am sad.... but wait... just this second I realised that I'm in a pipe 5 by 5...eat this!!!!! (Michael Biehn is just ....)
Marines we are leaving is a much more iconic line. It works better too. The APC wasn't even supposed to be there. Ripley brought it to them and rescued them. I always felt it was his way of telling the rest of the squad that help is right here. And it works better too because it can be used generally, not just to Drake. There are so many iconic lines in this movie that you just assume it's another well timed and iconic line. Drake makes perfect sense. But Marines sounds better.
Drake, we're leaving! The rest of you stay here, we'll be right back. We forgot something in the APC. I heard "marines, we are leaving!" It just doesn't make any sense that he would be addressing Drake and not the whole squad.
The "squad"? They were down to 4 people, and you can remove Hicks, and since Hicks was holding Hudson, now 2. Pretty sure Vasquez confirmed the retreat order by saying let's go before, and Drake was the one that was in the back and bloodlusted
I remember hearing this in an episode of Star Wars The Clone Wars where Captain Rex calls out to his men saying they're leaving in a similar yelling fashion
Literally what i shouted when i was evacuating my team in "Aliens Dark Descent", while there is mission 3, xenomorphs luring around, alien agressiveness is high as f, they have spotted you, and your team is stressing out.
Never saw the movie, had no idea there was a major character named Drake. I saw this clip posted on someone’s video commentary about gaming strategy, and the line was quoted as “Marines”. But even without any context, I clearly heard “Drake” I came here to find out why I heard “Drake”. Now I know why. Because that is clearly what he said. What the script says, or what the closed captions say, or what the director’s commentary says is all nice to discuss, but none of that changes the fact that this actor said “Drake” in this recording.
Now you can! After years of minimal Aliens clips someone finally done it and uploaded the entire scene on youtube. ruclips.net/video/IySXgTv3eU4/видео.html

Has anybody ever asked Michael Biehn if he remembers what he said? Or found an original script? This is the ORIGINAL white dress/ blue dress, Yanny/ Loreal debate, except it's never been solved, and I'd really like to know. (FWIW, I always thought it was Marines (still do), but I can hear Drake on replay).
It's crazy. I could have sworn I was siding with the "Marines, we are leaving" group a few years past until I recently watched the clip and heard the line again. Now I feel like Hicks is indeed saying "Drake, we are leaving". So I tried to lip read what Hicks is saying and the shape of his mouth seems to suggest Drake. Unfortunately there is versions of the film with both "Drake" and "Marines" used in the subtitles so there may never be a concrete answer. Hear what you want to hear, and tbh it doesn't impact the film too much.
Weird. To me it's very clearly "Drake !" and in context of the scene that makes most sense for me too (Drake is at the rear absorbed in the action so he's the one that specifically needs to hear it and after the line the next thing we hear is Drake firing and yelling - in other words the narrative focus passes from Hicks to Drake). The idea that it's "Marines !" is brand new to me, didn't even realise there was a debate until 5 minutes ago.
What the script or subtitles say is not important. It's what the actor says and that's 'Drake'. The word marines has two syllables and the shape his mouth makes is clearly one. R.I.P to this debate. 😆
trha2222 The subtitles are wrong. He clearly says, "DRAKE! We are leaving"; because Drake was last in line and worried more about shooting than getting the hell out.
He's saying "Drake", not "marines". Although I swear the first time I ever saw the movie, I was certain it was "marines". Perhaps this clip simply has better sound quality to it.
It's always been "drake we are leaving" to me, he's looking bad towards Drake who is bringing up the rear. Even the audio (whilst heavily droned out by gunfire) you can head the "ke" at the end of Drake, I believe people hear marines mainly because of the misquote, its like the Mandela effect
LOL. This is our D&D group's code word for get the hell out of dodge, or be left behind...
In D&D, you'd think the party would be shouting "WE ARE LEAVING THE DRAKE!"
Literally just happened during my session.

On your feet Marine, WE ARE LEAVING!

Well according to my dvd subtitles, it’s “marines.”
I believe its really "Drake ,we are leaving!" I thought it was marines all these years as well.
