Jets seem to fly together quicker! At least if they're all sheet anyway, watch out for the unusual finish in the next video!
Some more great building
The more I watch you the more you inspire me to build something, this build especially. Had a DB sport and scale Vampire kit for years ! A lot of sheeting 🤔 😳 thanks😊
Hi Jeremy, there isn't anything more satisfying than putting together a balsa wood model aeroplane, then watching it fly, thanks for watching and commenting 🙂👍
I had not seen that David razor plane before. Brilliant! I found one here in the US from a fiberglass supply vendor. Apparently they’re also used for shaping surf boards. This is going to be very useful in my shop! Thanks for the tip.
One of those tools Angus that you just use all the time, you'll love it, cheers 👍🙂
Cliff it is taking shape! Looking great.
Thanks Adam, every piece I add makes it look so much better 🙂👍
Another Balsa Masterclass Cliff, she is looking great 👍🏻
Cheers Chris 👍🙂
Looking forward to more Cliff❤
Thanks Ron 👍
Looking good Cliff.👍
Thanks Bob 👍
Coming along really well.
Cheers Bob 👍
Love the Hunter ! Great build Cliff, well done.! I have a few different sizes of Hunter, they all fly well!!
Hi Ray, hopefully mine will be just as good as your Fleet 😁👍
Nice job Cliff coming allong very nicely
Thanks Michael, I just love wood 🙂👍
Nice build, Cliff. I built Tony's 50mm Phantom. It was wy too fast for my flying skills and I ended up giving it away. I enjoyed the build. Tony is a brilliant designer. I fly his SKY120 regularly.
Thanks Gudjon, the Phantom would stretch my skills as well I'm sure, the 120 is a big, much more graceful model, chalk and cheese! The Hunter sounds like a steady flyer so fingers crossed 🤔👍
Looking fast already Cliff! 👍🏻
Thanks Tim, I just hope it's not too heavy to get off the ground 🤔👍
@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes I do have to give mine a really good throw like an Olympic javelin 😂
Wow very nice build you very talented 😊
Thank you so much 🤗
That didn't take long 😊looks great.
The joy of using the plane. At a model engineering club lads around the table took turns explaining what they were working on traction engine, 4" Black Five etc. Then it was my turn what do you make Mark? answer "swarf" 😊
Good answer Mark 😁👍
Looking Good🤠👍🛩️🇿🇦
Hi Wouter, thanks 👍
Hi Cliff, .. looks like a very nice start. Interesting, after all the "advancements" of materials .. the choice .. balsa! .. :)
Hi Ken, you can't beat the satisfaction you get from working with wood whatever is you're making 🤔👍
Wow, I am really envious of you. This build looks really good. I can't wait to see the rest. Keep up the excellent work. Will it have retracts?
Hi Chris, thanks for watching, no retracts on this one, they would add a degree of complexity and weight it just doesn't need at this scale, cheers 👍
The hunters that had lights in them there noses tended to be Navy aircraft
That's interesting Barry, I think I'm going flightless after all but it would be pretty easy to fit 👍
I wish I had your skill and confidence with balsa building, Cliff. Your TN Hunter is already looking fabulous! Did you select your own balsa or did you get the laser cut parts and extra wood pack? I've had nothing but problems with balsa selection in the wood packs (not Tony's fault at all) on my TN Mossie and it's nearly put me off doing these TN models. I shall definitely be following this build and I know I'm going to learn how to do it properly by watching you.
Hi Gina, thanks, the thing is with wood if you make a mistake you just glue a bit of wood back in. I am surprised at the poor selection of wood in your kit, I'm not sure I would be too happy to use it. I'm building mine from the plans and selecting all the wood myself, it takes a bit more time to cut things out but then it's all part of the enjoyment. For a good example of wood selection the Sopwith Triplane I've just made from the Vintage model company had superb wood 🤔👍
@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes Hi Cliff. Of the four VMC kits I've built, I have absolutely no grumbles about wood selection at all... in fact I'd say their kits are pretty much the best on the market.
I've never done a Tony Nijhuis design model, or any balsa build of the size of this 38" Mossie, using this build method of sheets of wood. If this Mossie flies as well as I'm hoping, then I think I could be tempted to do another TN design, as long as I selected the wood 😄 Maybe there's a latent balsa basher in me yet...
How do you service the edf?
You mentioned that on the plans, the ducts were thin ply, but you were using balsa.
I wonder whether the lower ducts are vulnerable to damage on landing, and it may be beneficial to toughen up the lower ducts leading edges, perhaps with strips of .4mm ply as doublers or a 2 or 3mm spruce/pine square strip on the front or a carbon strip or ...
Hi Richard, I don't think I did mention they were ply because they're balsa, and I have already faced them off with 1/8 Square spruce, but it remains to be seen exactly how much abuse they will take but we do land on soft grass so I don't think it'll be a problem, thanks for watching, cheers
👍👍👍
Thanks Jon 👍
Ohh Cliff, you are making one of my favorite jets! I will go back to watch the 1st part of this project and go back here, anyway, congratulations!!!
Cool, thanks 👍🙂
Watching with a lot of interest Cliff as my late Dad worked on Hawker Hunters when he was in the R.A.F in the late 1950's!! Looks like it's really taking shape, great bit of building 😀👍
That's cool Ian and a great memory, cheers 👍
That is a really massive amount of balsa. Indeed very different from other models you make but with quite a few challenges along the way. Looking very good already!
Thanks Andrew, have you watched part 3 ruclips.net/video/4ow3_uXd8oU/видео.htmlsi=KYtbekuvsqkOa8Ud 👍
Cliff that’s not a Hawker Hunter it’s a work of art. Jeff in LA USA
I have to agree with you there Jeff, Hawker did make a work of art, mine's just a crude copy in comparison, cheers 🤔👍
Really coming on now Cliff, looking great 😎
Cheers Bob 👍
it's looking good cliff, I regularly drive past a full size hunter at RAF henlow , and admire it's great shape and lines , yours is looking good like the full size, it will be nice to see it fly , from Tony from Bedfordshire
Thanks for the info Tony, I had a look at a picture of the Hunter you mentioned, WT612, a fine looking bird, Ut secure volent 🙂👍
Hi Cliff. Many years ago When I inported and sold Flair kits in sweden , they had a glue called Whit glue. That glue was the best for modelbuilding. I can not find the same glue now.
Hi Thomas, I've not heard of that one, but all the good things disappear eventually 🙂👍
Beautiful Cliff amazing work can’t wait to see part 3
Thank you very much, Part Three is in the making 🙂👍
Real woodworking 😁👍 will you fiberglass it?
It would toughen it up but I have to watch the weight, so no, not this model 👍
There's lots of balsa in that build. I hope you've used 5 to 6 lb wood!
Well it's not the heaviest wood Ron but if I'm not careful that'll be the finished flying weight!
Looks great cliff 👍
Thanks Litts 👍
How about a big long lighting strike along the fuz.?
How about I attach a strip of copper to the model and fly in a lightning storm and get the real thing 😁👍
Now that’s dedication.❤️
Looking fantastic. Yes, at least a nose light would be great. Maybe nav lights too? Lights really do look good...especially on a jet.
Most crucial thing with an edf model is that the fan can "breath". Hopefully with the cheater hole, enough air will be available for the edf 😊
Hi Mike, I think you're right if you're going lights you want to go to whole hog. One thing Tony says in the article is not to reduce the cheat hole in the bottom, also there's two in the intakes and couple in the top Hatch 👍
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes It took a lot of trial and error when I built my Mig15. The difference in the power produced by the edf when they breath well is remarkable. I'm intrigued to see how you paint her. A very enjoyable build to follow along with 😊
@@mikeparkercreative5136 The more I think about the finish I'm going to put on her the more I like it but I'm sure it won't be everyone's cup of tea!
@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes Your model....your choice 😁
That looks amazing. Rapid progress as well!
If I fit a piece of copper strip and fly in a storm then maybe nature will help me out 😁👍
