      One only has to think a thousand years ahead, and some visiting Alien-Spacecraft Crew will be gratious to get their hands on a working Tempest V to get their holodeck-Computer up to the right specifications....., at any rate aircrafts as representing the pinnacle of engineering for a time period are part of the cultural heritage - and therefore a great treasure.

    My Ex's dad used to spend his evenings flying around the south of England in a Lancaster with a Sabre running at high power while the three Merlins were pretty much idle. At that time he worked for Napier and he was there to log engine instruments. By the time he retired B.C. Smith FRAeS was in charge of part of British Aerospace and ate lunch in Hatfield House every day, where the Mosquito was built during WWII. His dad built Mosquitoes and we had a box of brass screws that his dad acquired when production was shut down. Thanks for putting your money into a Tempest. They are wonderful aircraft.

      I know the Lancaster was used as an engine testbed but I haven't seen a Sabre on one, that must be mighty strange looking

    • @radiationking9875
      @radiationking9875 3 месяца назад +5

      Could it be the Napier Naiad rather?

    • @cageordie
      @cageordie 3 месяца назад +3

      @@radiationking9875 No. It was the Sabre. Absolutely zero chance that he didn't know what he was testing. And he was doing this during WWII and the Naiad wasn't made until after the war, by which time he was moving up the ranks in the company. He still had the manuals too. He donated them to a young guy who worked on the Avro York at IWM Duxford.

    • @cageordie
      @cageordie 3 месяца назад +2

      @@radiationking9875 It's not like they were advertising the flights. A lot of interesting things were lost at the end of WWII. Brian always knew where the original Mosquito was stashed too. Hatfield was his site for quite a while.

    Aww man, you made me leak some coolant there at the end Kermit, you're a class act! Your end message, of what was already an incredible three part series about this beautiful Tempest V project, really resonated. I remember Richard's father, and Doug Arnold back on the warbird scene back then, thanks to my father's passion, passed on by his father who was a WWII navigator in the RAF. My father took me and my brother out on the Thames back in the early 80s, to crawl around your converted Sunderland (Short Sandringham) ML814 (Peter Smith's book about her, The Last Flying Boat is a must!) and that row boat ride out to her sitting under Tower Bridge is an indelible memory. At some point I'll make it out to Fantasy of Flight in Florida (from Montana now) to run my hand across her again. THANK YOU for everything you do for this community, for the preservation of history, and memories old, current, and yet to be made.

    The older engine (the black one) is very interesting, if it is a Sabre III as Richard Grace says it is in the video, it is an extremely rare beast, the Sabre III was made exclusively for the Blackburn B37 Firebrand. They only made about 30 of them, that is 30 out of about 5000, astonishing that any should survive. This engine is rated at 2300hp at 4000rpm rather than the more usual 2200hp at 3850rpm.

    Congrats, just from my impressions of Richard, he will do this plane justice. I definitely second a video of Kermit visiting Richard in England.

    I can't wait to see it fly!
    In IL2 Sturmovic the Tempest is one of my favorite aircraft to fly... It's one of the fastest fighters of the war and is more maneuverable than than you'd think considering how big it is...
