The real reason why Kratos didnt tell atreus that he was a god, is that he didnt want atreus to experience what kratos did in his childhood, but Kratos was wrong, instead of anger and regret that he would get from his son, what he got was a humour of a peaceful child, "Can I fly? Can I turn into an animal?"
Ro Van 5 min later that peaceful child kills an unarmed god. And he has lack of everything and anyone. Even 5 min later he shoots his own father. Loki is no good boy
Inoticed that too. The wonder and curiosity of a child completely caught him off guard and you could feel the tension fall and turn the a nice father/son moment taking about being awesome.
Atreus quickly afterwards developed a brief God complex. He was falling into the kind of arrogance the Olympians had.

True, but he is still a child, once he hits the teenage years all bets are off whether that complex will resurface worse than ever or he will actually heed his fathers advice and warning.
"I am a God boy" that's gotta be the greatest quote you'll ever hear any video game character say. Whoever did the VA for Kratos really nailed it.

Next God of War, Atreus is the main protagonist and turns into a fucking wolf. I call it now.
Compared to the previous games this father and son story in the mythical norse lands it's beautifully different, (cause all I can remember from the first games was only pain, monsters, gods who turn out to be as horrible and evil as the monsters and brutal killing made by a furious Kratos) but just by itself the story AND the gameplay are pure gold.

@@ShivamPatel-yq7rr not necessarily, Loki is evil in Norse mythology but this doesn’t follow Norse mythology super closely, at least not by sides. The giants are almost all evil yet in this they’re the good guys. Thor, while brash and a heavy drinker is always shown as the good guy and here is one of the worst of the worst

Which is why God of War 4 is a masterpiece. This game has so much foreshadowing who knows what we will get in the future games.
Atreus's real name is LOKI. Through out the game he always says "I wanna be a wolf" and World Serpent said "he's familiar to me", so you realize there is no Fenrir in this game, Odin will die 'cause of Fenrir. Atreus will shapeshift into Fenrir to avenge Kratos (last escene before they go out the room).
Actually, Fenrir will probably still be Loki/Atreus' son and may make it into the future games. Jörmungandr, the World Serpent, said that he was familiar to him. And if you recall, Mimir said that the World Serpent was flung back in time. So Jörmungandr is practically seeing his father's younger self. The only issue is we don't know if Kratos will come back since we saw in the finale of the game that there was a painting of him dying in Atreus' embrace.

A lot of the powers he suggests are Loki's powers... so if anything, its a very unsubtle way of hinting at the future.

I love how Kratos is so understanding and patient with the boy. When he brought up being able to turn into an animal again for the last time, he didn't get upset with him being "ridiculous", he simply welcomed the challenge to be proven wrong and letting the child be a child.

You hear the pride and humour in his voice because he took it so well.
You guys do not understand the meaning of this scene. Kratos tells that he is a god with fear and disgust, because he hates the fact of being a god. And this deep trauma against himself makes him be anxious about what reaction atrues will have, since he didn't want to tell him for so long and was hiding it from Atreus all he could. When he heard question about turning into animal it was just totally not what he expected, so it takes him a moment to even understand what Atreus means (can you... turn... into an animal?...)

Kratos IS a god. A full powered God. After killing Ares he was offered the title of God Of War. Along with the title came more godly powers, like the ability to become a giant. When Zeus betrayed and tricked him, his newly achieved godly powers were cast into the sword. However, his title remains with him. There never was anyone who took his place (although Hercules wanted to). As he killed all the other gods, he gained some of their powers, but not all, because he wasn't officially given their title. Their full power was cast, released free onto the world. Now, when he finally defeated Zeus, he used Pandora's box. Pandora's box last treasure was the power of hope. When Kratos suicided, he released all the remaining powers he had gained from the gods he killed, and with no more rulers in the underworld, and the power of hope released from the box, he became a sort of phoenix, resurrecting and starting a new life WITH HOPE for a new beginning.. His title remained though. His warrior nature remains because it is who he is. War is not a physical object like water for Poseidon or Fire for Hepheastus. War is war. A state. A metality and mindset. War is pain, struggle, loss, experience, strategy, brutality and much more... and Kratos is all of them.

Hah, I loved that one moment too. Here he is, revealing a secret that has weighed on him for the entire time, and his son just lightheartedly asks if it means he can turn into an animal. Kratos' expression may mean several things depending on how you interpret it - to me, he was thinking "I've got a lot to explain."
Sad part about Bioware is they used to make some really good stuff, and the original Mass Effect series is still a huge favorite of mine. But Sony's Santa Monica studio set a new bar, foregoing true open world and free roaming for a more controlled but impactful experience.
They were also diverting resources towards Anthem it seems.

"You sure I can't turn into a wolf?" is not there by coincidence. At the end of the game it's revealed that Atreus is actually Loki. According to Norse mythology, Loki is the father of Fenrir the wolf, who is said to kill Odin during Ragnarok.

darcel francis well the giants are weird, not all of them were giants, and some of them were also gods, the aesir and vanir are gods but it seems that it's because they became jottun, so there is a chance atreus is a norse God, but it seems that his mom is not a godly giant, so he probably is just a normal giant
