THANK YOU!! Truly & wholeheartedly. Thank you! It's like listening to a new Al Stewart album. Amazing! Where did you find these sings and the quality is quite good indeed.... As Al hasn't put out a new album in over a decade this is quite beautiful! Does Al know about this...?

You are welcome! Thanks for leaving a comment it's always nice to know someone has listened to the album in it's entirety and enjoyed it. Most of these tracks are actually availiable on RUclips individually although I have made some changes to them that I detail in the comments of this video. This project came about because there was so much really good unreleased stuff out there that I was curious whether I could use it to construct an album that flowed well, and 'felt' like a new album. I think it's much more enjoyable to listen to music in general as a complete album than individual songs. And it all came together very quickly and I'm really happy with the result. If you check out my channel I have two other albums constructed in this way - one live album of just Al and a guitar, and one consisting of unreleased works from the late 80's early 90's. Whilst I would love Al to have seen my channel I have no contact with him so have no way of knowing whether he's seen it or not. I like to think he has; since a link to the channel has appeared on his website recently, and I've had plenty of communication with Peter White on Facebook over the last few months as I've uploaded videos to this channel.

Terrific compilation - Al's non album outtakes are collectively the best I've ever heard from any artiste. This would be an excellent LP by itself were some of the song given a little more attention. Wonderful guitar by Lawrence in Clifton in the Rain.

According to Al.. in some interviews - his next door neighbor in a flat in London was Paul Simon before he was really famous.. he could hear Paul through the walls constructing chord sequences and writing songs before Al's very ears ? how lucky could you get.. Then when Alan Parson's is involved with engineering some of your things ? damn ! good stuff. Don't get me wrong as that luck couldn't happen to a nicer and more deserving guy !

@@PontusWittenmark Hi Pontus - thanks for listening! If you compare the version of 'Curtain' on my album to the original demo you'll notice I've made the song 10% faster. I think this worked really well although part of me thinks the guitar solo in it sounds almost a bit too fast, but overall I think it's an improvement on the original. I think my favorite track on the album is "Dreaming". Oh and I've checked out your channel, I'm a fellow programmer too :) Thanks again for your comments.

Very deep cuts. I loved this. Some I knew, like Clifton, but not this version. Others were brand new to me. Thanks for the time and effort you put into this. Any chance of another?

    • @TheAlStewartArchives
      @TheAlStewartArchives  4 года назад +1

Thanks for taking the time to listen to it Kelly. The version of Clifton that you hear is Al playing with Lawrence Juber about 3 years ago. I slowed that particular track down by 5% from the original recording; a subtle change but I think it suits the feel of the song more and allows Lawrence's amazing guitar playing to be heard a bit better; a bit more 'breathing space'. Clifton is one of my favorite tracks, and as you know Al was very young when he first recorded it - I like the contrast with him now singing it as an older man over 40 years later - kind of the same way that Joni Mitchell did with 'Both Sides Now'. I'd love to do another one of these but I don't think I have enough material to work with - this all came together very quickly and just felt 'right'. I'll have a listen to what's left and see if any of it sounds like it would group together as well as this material has. Thanks again for your comment. - David

"20:20 Ghostly Horse Of The Plain - slowed down by 5% from the original recording, removed the final chord played from the original recording as I felt it sounded out of place"
LOL, reminds me of that part in the movie Amadeus where Soliere tells the King that there's too many notes.

I listened here hoping to find a good quality recording of the holy grail - an Al Stewart song I've been looking for for years - the bootleg version of Palace of Versailles. I have a very poor recording of it, transferred from tape to mini disc and now to MP3. Simply beautiful, and some wonderful 'alternative' lyrics. If anyone knows where I can find a good version please comment here!!
On the bootleg version, the opening line is: "And when this revolution has run its course and passed; there'll be no disillusion, in the Paris streets at last"

Track 1 is Elton John's early stuff.
    Track 2/3 is John Lennon
    Track 4 The Zombies.
    Track 5 The Rolling Stones
    Track 6 acoustic Zeppelin.
    Track 7 Bob Dylan/Donovan.
Track 8 more like Al Stewart.
    Overall a very unusual collection.
Though I must admit I didn't like it.
Al Stewart albums, whilst reflective, are usually a lot happier.
So I understand why they weren't included officially.
His voice sounded shot on some.
Nevertheless you worked very hard on this.
    So thx

The song needs pep, which the speed change removed imo. Thank you for putting this together..
