3:35 YIKES! I have a theory that people feel better at first on carnivore because they are only eating meat and starving off bad bacteria overgrowth. It was really just overgrowth that was giving them health problems so they feel better once that's gone. But then good bacteria also suffer because they're not getting prebiotics to eat from fruits and vegetables. Then they reintroduce food that's not meat and their body has a hard time knowing what to do with it since their microbiome has been decimated. I know people who went carnivore and lost lots of weight but then they say they can't eat any bread at all anymore because their hands swell up and their joints hurt.
100%- A drastic shift takes place in the microbiome any time we changes our macronutrient profile. The same can be said to those who will swear by giving up meat and becoming a vegetarian. You wont find health at either extreme- Improvement in symptoms yes.... BUT given enough time..... Your health will deteriorate.
I have eaten and taken many of the suggested foods, but still dont have Akkermansia per DNA stool test. I hope direct Akkermansia supplement will help.
@@DrRichardHagmeyerI’ve been trying for a couple of years to improve my Akkermansia to no avail (w/probiotics & prebiotics). What underlying issues could be impeding the growth of this bacteria?

Thank you for the video. I recently bought Akkermansia tablets to my wife. She got an allergic reaction to the pill after a 15-30 minutes. She has allergy to some food. But we were suprised she got an allergic reaction to the akkermansia pill. Is that common?
I am not recommending supplements at this time to rebuild levels. Only food and suggestions found in this video. I have heard the same from many people.
@@DrRichardHagmeyer Thank you for the reply. She did take the supplement the following day and days. No allergic reactions, perhaps it was something else.
Hi there! while there is a company that manufactures akermansia supplements I’m not sure of their effectiveness at this time. As far as Butyrate goes increasing akermansia levels, will in turn help increase production of Short Chain fatty acids such as Butyrate. If you watch the video, I give several sure fire ways on how to increase akermansia levels naturally.
I’ve taken the akkermansia supplement for 3 months three years ago, and it didn’t help me at all. BUT to be fair, I also didn’t have as great of a diet as I should’ve. I was more just hoping it would increase my levels even a little bit, but I started with zero and after 3 months, still was at zero. 😢 Hoping to try again, but with some more polyphenols and a more serious mindset too. My leaky gut problems have worsened and just checked recently that my akkerrmansia is still at zero.
I did the same (pendulum brand) and I had gi test and it did not help at all. I did this a good diet. I’m also having lots of problems now. Did you do anything that helped ?
@@janechu how are you doing now? What test did you do to check your alkermansia? I did pendulum brand and after 3 months I was still at non detectable levels.
@@cghrios783 I did a GI360 test. I started supplementing with polyphenols and my akkermansia levels increased a little, but it's still very low. At least it's better than having NONE though from before. Hoping it continues to grow over time!
I don’t think it’s a viable strategy. It’s too early to tell. I suggest you watch the video and implement the 7 or 8 strategies that are proven to help increase akermansia.
Definitely take some. My GI PCR test showed no detectable levels. You will still need to take the prebiotics and polys preferably as foods but you can also supplement, why not?
They can but it depends on why they were wiped out. I discussed sone of the causes in that video and other causes in some of my other videos. But yes you can do it!!! Good question 👍🏻

@@cghrios783 Studies show that supplementing with "akkermansia" does not necessarily mean you are going to boost levels. The same is true for most probiotics.

I eat keto, and I do eat a good number of foods with polyphenols, fiber, and omega 3s.

Not likely. You need to find out why akkermansia don’t want to live in your micrbiome. There could be underlying issues that need to be resolved.
@@DrRichardHagmeyerI’ve been trying for a couple of years to improve my Akkermansia to no avail (w/probiotics & prebiotics). What underlying issues could be impeding the growth of this bacteria?
Short chain fatty acids
Polyphenols
Food high in FOS
Improve Other gut bacteria with probiotic
Fish oil
Flax seeds oil
Omega 3

if someone eats a vegan diet and has low stomach acid as a result might this contribute? if this is the case would betaine/hcl be helpful?
most vegans will have low stomach acid. If your not eating protein and fat, the body will not need to make or release as much. Our bodies are smart.
