I'm gonna say it one more time, GO SEE A DOCTOR! I first got this pain when I was 19 & the doc told me I had a slipped disc. But being just 19 I thought I was invincible & once it cleared up I thought I was fine. But because I ignored it, I made it much worse & have had to live with the pain for the last 33 years. Prevention is the best medication.

Yes now you know why I've been sleeping in a recliner chair. Oh buddy... with the having to pee thing... thats a sign of serious issue. You need to go to doctor asap I'd say because doctor told me if I had trouble holding in my pee I need to go to emergency room immediately.
Also when you lay down try using your pillows under your knees propped up almost 90 degrees. I was able to get sleep that way a few times

if it's a muscle tear it'll take a while to heal, and it should get better with time, but if the pain shoots down the back of your leg/ butt and thigh, and it does not improve (or gets worse) then it's a pinched nerve, which is easy to fix, I lift weights and I get those often. All you need is some traction in your lower spine, you can go to a chiropractor, but I usually fix it at home by putting on a weighted dip belt (anything similar would work) laying on my back and having someone pull my hips horizontally away from the base of the spine, the pulling needs to be enough to free the nerve, it'll take some time to heal depending on how long the nerve was pinched, but it should start improving the next day, and gone inside of three days, but don't leave it unattended because the more time passes the more damaged the nerve. Good luck

Peter!!!! Sounds like you sustained a type of nerve damage. I suffered from 2 spinal nerve injuries in 2015-2016 and have never been the same since. Go see a spinal surgeon first and ASAP. THEY MAY NEED to use Sacroiliac InjectionsASAP to stop internal inflammation before it fries your pain nerves into an oblivion. Please see the best doctor you can find ASAP. Do NOT see a “chiropractor” to pop ur back you do not want to antagonize your injury any further. Best wishes my friend. 🙏

Did you ever had a sprained enkel, it is the same to your back. The reaction of your back is to immobilize you by make your muscle frozen by hypertension in the muscles. My solution is to move every half an hour and when you sit or lay down use a hot water bottle so you warm your muscles so they ore more 😂 movable. But come in motion, don’t rest to long. And pain killers give you the courage to move.
    Succes and good luck 😉
    Bye Mirjam

You need to see a PM&R physician ( A physiatrist) immediately. They will be able to place you on the correct course of care. Do not wait and see if the pain will go away before you seek medical advice. Be sure that any pain medications are prescribed in non addictive monitored dosages and rounds. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Just had a thought. Remember to tell doc about your deep sea work & world travel. I've never dived before, but travelled for many years in my youth & spent most nights sleeping on hard surfaces, which my doc said was a big contributor to my back problems.

If there is an emergency treatment walk in centre that might be your best bet.

Just a little more from my back pain experiences, I suffered for 8-9 years after the initial injury and no amount of physiotherapy helped me.
That was until a couple of years ago during the first UK lockdown when I saw a video on the AthleanX RUclips channel. The exercises shown helped me immensely and the following morning was the first time in 8-9 years that I woke up without the pain in my lower back.
I will post the link to the video on here Insha'Allah

The reason u found a position that stopped the pain temporarily tells me u May actually have a injury to the cervical section of tour spinal cord which is between ur upper part of your shoulder blades . No chiropractor yet, no HEAT, use COLD COMPRESS to reduce swelling, and pain killers wont touch the pain. Sorry to say. Use ICE and het a spinal surgeon/ specialist FIRST! Trust me dude. I hope u pull through. The type of injury can freeze the nerve endings into constant sending pain signals when pain is no longer there. It will hurt in your arm and into your fingers which is called Cervical Radiculopathy. Get it treated ASAP please.

Ok firstly, I am a healthcare provider so I can give some recommendations here. You might just have a lumbar strain. Give it some time, I’ve actually experienced it and the pain is absolutely horrible. Tools me weeks to heal. Alternate between Tylenol and Motrin.
Heed my warning, if your groin, buttocks area get numb, if you lose control of your bowels or bladder then go to the hospital without delay. If it doesn’t get better then maybe you have a slipped disk

You're going to need muscle relaxers which means doctor. Put a heating pad on it while home since you can't probably get in and out of a bath tub. There's acupuncture and massage but it sounds like that will have to be secondary to some healing time. But yeah muscle relaxants sounds like an absolute necessity. You need to get the muscles to unclench and that is what muscle relaxants will accomplish.
