Good video! I started hauling fuel back in the late 80's. Back then there was all leaded gas. You had to make premium and plus and winter blended fuel. They gave you the gallons to blend, but you had to figure it per compartment. Different truck every day, different sizes of compartments. You had to be very careful. There was top loading too. Very dangerous. Your filled vapor lines indicate someone overfilled a tank while delivering. We loaded at about 30 different locations, all different. I worked for a union company and get a pension.
@@yaiqaab I was paid by the hour with full benefits for the whole family. They never rushed you and mistakes were not tolerated. Yes, it was in the 80's and I don't think jobs like that even exist now.
@johnslesinger7109 Union gig very rare, but good companies still around. Glad top loading is done with at terminals. I'm about to jump to another outfit for better pay and benefits. In the pacific northwest hourly rate is about 36.00-40.00 per hour now. Equipment is fairly good and time out is about 10-12 hour shifts.
Nashville must be in the stone age. Their seemingly antiquated systems are not as smooth and seamless as this system. 24 years trucking, mainly OTR and LTL, I decided to try fuel delivery. Definitely have to pay attention to what you're doing, at the point of delivery as well. Great video, my friend.
Here in Louisiana at Exxon we have to take an empty 5 gallon bucket and open the valve on each compartment and verify they are empty before you can connect the loading arm to the trailer .

Having hauled fuel for many years, I've always set my proceedures to match the strictest SOP of the racks I go to. Like turning off all lights, the radio and such when I pull up to the gate. No idling when I'm waiting to enter the rack. Chocking the wheels if I get out of the cab and not inside the rack. Doing a walk around to check for hot brakes or flats and empty compartments before entering the rack. Leaving my cell opine in the cab and always be at the emergency shut off while loading. Doing all of those things every time no matter where I was kept me in check all the time even ifnthe facility didn't require it. I'll say this much. At a lot of racks, if they saw you hop out of your truck to get your BOL and left your truck idling, they'd lock you out for 3 or 7 days.

I'm thinking of hauling gas later this year. I talk to the fuel haulers in the area and they said they like there job. It pays well and great benefits. Exactly what this guy said, if you have 2yr exp already check out Jackson energy, superior, cool transports. Superior I know let’s you use phone when not driving and waiting at rack. I met a guy yesterday new driver in tanker work. They started him at $32hr training after training it’s $34 his shift was 3pm-3am 2-3 loads a shift
As for me I’m hauling red dye diesel and I can load on top of retains, but I only fuel locomotives and we’re underpaid lmao but I’m a new driver 9mo of exp so far. I’m at $23 I’m only here riding it out until I land a better job. I take home 1300 a week 5 days. Morning shift as well which is impossible in tanker work these days. I’m switch to superior or Jackson energy when I have 2yrs.
Also jet speed pays you like $38hr but they have a lot to do and be careful, im carded to haul jet fuel, but you have to sample every compartment at the rack and at the airport. If you not cautious don’t do jet fuel. Spills are no hood either for any fuel work.
All of the racks here that I go to in Illinois are very strict on not being on your phone anywhere near the load rack lol, surprised you can film your whole process here! Pretty cool lol

Fun times, made some good 💰Pulled out of Motiva, Carbo and Mobil before it was Global. Nice trailer too. Master switch is wired to Scully. Push it in when done. Don't rely on the door. Never been to holtsville. Interesting touch screen. Watch that phone before you get locked out, bro ! Google earth is definitely a Godsend on a new station. Used it one time to find snow covered fills. Bossman funny. Worried about the danmn truck wash ! Be safe !

How did you not get kicked out of the rack? Is your camera hermetically sealed? This rack must not require a twic card? I had a fellow driver in Seattle that was brought up on federal charges for recording at Kinder Morgan . Great video though, shows the motoring public how their fuel gets to the station.
That's at Holtsville, NY and yes if the camera is not INTRINSICALLY safe you will be locked out for life, probably even if caught recording at all. Just hope terminal management doesn't see the video!
To drivers who needs to know how it goes. Make sure you have your compartment increments already tallied up then before entering the rac go around the truck check your tires and knock on the take just in case to know if your still have product in those compartments! Then change the product compartments if needed. It makes it easier when going in the rac and less room for mixing loads or scullying out
Thinking of hauling Fuel. How much calculation is involved, like do you need to know how much your putting in or is there a meter that shuts it off. I did propane but we had a gauge that you just watched.
Very relaxed terminal. In Chicago you'll get locked out for pulling into the rack with the lights on, leaving the truck on while checking to see if you're lined up, only applying the tractor parking brake and not the trailer brakes, using cell phone, and recording under the rack lol but other than that, sweet video driver!

Depends on the terminal. Some require just hard hats. Others like this terminal just require safety glasses. No phones or electronic devices is the rule at all terminals. Most are relaxed with other rules and won’t give u too much crap about it but shell (motiva) terminal is super strict about everything. They require hard hat, glasses, high vis vest and full fire resistant clothes. 1 mistake and they’ll lock u out for life.
I was going to say the same thing. Up here in Canada, most terminals would have kicked him in the first minute of the video backing up. That is like first rule. Also switch loading, no FR coveralls, electrical devices, cell phone, cotton sweatshirt. ...oh and the biggest pet peeve...no drip pails under the loadheads.

Terminal op here at my rack you have to wait for the gate to close behind you, shutoff the truck do walk around unit. No electronics, lights off prior to entering rack. You have to stay in your lane while loading, no gloves on the card reader. Someone scully out that trailer if you have that much product in your vapor line. Not an office more like bol shack, looks like they’re going to be doing end of year tank gauging as well. Being empty is always worse than being loaded.

Whats that section on the tanker that you connected that yellow hose, the vapor hose? What does it do when you connect it the the rear of the tanker? And I see you have 3 sections. One in the rear, the middle, and up to the front. Does it matter which section you put it at? Am thinking about getting into tanker, fuel.
You pulled on the rack without allowing the static to dissipate from your truck, so in other words, stop set your brakes count to 120 release your brakes and pull on. I’m just blown away by this.
In my company we go out for 4 weeks, you get carded at terminals and they watch you to make sure that you know what you’re doing. You can stay for an extra week or 2 if you don’t feel ready.
Hurry up and stop the loading let the operator know and then call your dispatch and more than likely its a done deal they ha e to pump that to a place that will refine it down. And it depends on how close that place is and depending on where your job is located and it's a 50/50 chance you will get fired. Too much money to continue to let someone screw up

You do it backwards. Raise up your trailer break then remove load heads. Then hook up ground then vapor.
