      No, they won’t, they don’t have that confidence, it feels like posey gave them more confidence and Crawford just had a weird year and yastremski is underperforming with a 91 ops+, and Brandon belt isn’t doing anything. 2022 giants will never be the same.

    Considering the Giants as well as the Red Sox have a tradition of being contenders one year, being abysmal the next, then being contenders again the following year, I feel like next year will be the real test for both clubs.

      That's true for the Giants but it's not quite as accurate for the Red Sox. Start with each team's first title in this century...

He was the captain of the group and just like when a great manager in a regular workplace leaves and is replaced with a random new manager, chances are there will be no chemistry between the workers and new manager. In a nutshell, Posey was the cool manager that left the workplace, now being replaced by either no one or someone that not everyone agrees with.

    To be honest, I thought that Kapler taking Littell down to the clubhouse, away from cameras, to rip his ass was a classy and professional move. Players get frustrated at managers, especially when they have bad performances, it happens... What Gabe did spared him the embarrassment of getting chewed out on live television and was a solid managerial move.

    Stuff like this happens in baseball. A team where average players have career years at the same time and it cause the team to become elite. It happened to the 2014, 2015 Royals when they won two pennants and 1 world series. The problem is that once those players return to their "real" form then that team just falls for what it seems out of nowhere.

    • @surflust

      A team where average players have career years at the same time and it cause the team to become elite doesn't happen, without some help. 2014/2015 royals teams were cheating with video system.. not sure how the gnats were doing it but anyone that has followed baseball knows that a team of scrubs with posey and some good pitching all of a sudden collectively have best seasons of their careers. One washed up has been having miracle season makes you wonder .. the whole team at one time.. sorry, been watching, playing, coaching, managing baseball too long to believe it.

  • @toms7114

    The Giants don't have an ace right now. While Carlos Rodon and Logan Webb are very good starters they are not ace quality. They are both top tier 2 spot pitchers. Their next best starting pitcher is Alex Cobb and he is an okay 3 spot pitcher, then it is Alex Wood and he has only been a good 4 spot pitcher because of his massive inconsistency issues. The Giants don't have a single reasonable starter other than those 4 which is why they have been having so many bullpen games lately. While Doval is a great up and coming reliever, he is still growing into pitching in the majors. The only other bullpen pitcher that the Giants have that is consistently good is Brebia. Everyone else in the Bullpen for the Giants is too inconsistent this year. While Rogers is good for 2 quick outs every time he goes up to the plate, after 2 the batters have adjusted to his style and if he doesn't get lucky with a ground ball he struggles to get a third out.
    When it comes to hitting the Giants have always been a streaky team. This year the streaks haven't lined up. A lot of the problem with the Giants offensive has also come with the transition away from small ball into long ball only, which is a mistake in their ballpark. Their park is designed for a lineup with 2 long ball hitters and 7 hitters that are doing all they can to get on base and mess with the pitcher once there. That type of line up is how they won 3 Pennants in 5 years. 2 players who could go yard consistently and 5 or 6 who could get on base a lot with good starters and an excellent bullpen. The giants have too many players trying to go long and no support from the bullpen.
    In order for the Giants to be good they need to accept that for the next 4 or 5 seasons they will suck while they stock their farm system with talent so they can have another amazing 6 or 7 seasons before they repeat stocking their farm system again.

    • @jonnyt16
      @jonnyt16 2 года назад

      Thats a pretty good analysis of whats going on. I remember thinking last year, even during our great season, that relying on the homerun is not sustainable at all. And as predicted, it all came crashing down this year. Bruce Bochey knew and understood how to win with the Giants and it wasn't with the long ball. Losing the leadership and the huge positive influence that Buster Posey had didn't help this year either. I can almost sense that our pitchers just don't look quite as comfortable without Posey behind the dish.

    • @jayboley9683
      @jayboley9683 2 года назад +1

    • @toms7114
      @toms7114 2 года назад

      @@jayboley9683 He isn't a Madison Bumgardner in his prime, he isn't a Tim Lincecum in his prime. Carlos Rodon is a great starting pitcher, but he doesn't have that something extra that makes him completely dominate on the mound almost every time he gets on it. I've seen Carlos Rodon dominate in a game before, but most of the time he is pitching you can see his control isn't even above 90%. He misses where he wants to put the ball a good 10% of the time and it is only luck that those pitches aren't slammed out of the park. Numbers aren't everything when it comes to evaluating the quality of a player. Carlos Rodon isn't an ace, but he is a fantastic starting pitcher that can hold the 2 spot in the rotation behind an ace and almost guarantee you the win in a series. For your starting pitcher lineup you want an ace in your 1 spot, and Rodon is not an ace.

A lot of people admitted he was the captain/leader of the squad throughout the years. A loss like that takes some time to get over, but as long as someone steps up in the last few games/next year, we should see something similar.

    Something that was completely missed and was by far the biggest single factor in the 2022 Giants fall from grace was the DEFENSE. Advanced Metrics placed the 21 Giants anywhere from 12th to (I think) 7th in defensive runs saved and Outs above average while the 22 Giants were ranked 28th or 29th in baseball. The pitching was a LOT better than we saw because we just couldn't field this year. The offense is also a LOT more complicated than explained here as the Giants were consistently top 10 in runs scored this year but this was at the cost of ALL defensive viability and we were also too dependant on platoon advantages to make up for the loss of star bats so this led to extreme inconsistency all year. It was either feast or famine and our trash defense needed all those runs to win.

    Two major contributing factors you didn't mention: the abysmal fielding, which chewed up the pitching staff at times and magnified the lack of scoring; and Farhan Zaidi and the journeyman-heavy roster of marginal players he assembled. Zaidi owns a lot of the mediocrity and sub-mediocrity of this team. You cannot win in MLB with a roster of platoon players. Channeling Billy Beane circa 2002, Zaidi thought he cracked the code with 2021 and was proven wrong. Sitting on a pile of cash, he spent like it was coming out of his own paycheck. Ownership has seemed to prioritize their real estate development deals over respecting their extremely loyal fan base and status as a legacy franchise. A bitterly disappointing season on all fronts.

    Dodgers won bc they spent TONS of money and traded their prospects for top proven veterans, and they got Freeman for nothing! We stuck with mostly the same Pitchers and same line ups and what happened, everyone faded. Losing Posey & Gausman, were huge. Even though Gausman faded towards the end, he gave us quality starts. Clubhouse Presence is huge, Buster emanated winning and everyone in the clubhouse wanted to live up to it. I think we should have gotten Bart in to the lineup last year and made him the primary backup regular. Instead we made him the 22 starter, which made him feel the weight of filling in HOF shoes. Belt was injured as usual, Craw was off both offensively and defensively, Wade was hit with injury bug, and Yaz offensively seemed to decline bc he didn't have any bats in the lineup to protect him. I think the lack of youth and offense is hurting us, the infusion of young talent is what got us to those championship years as well as sustain it. International signings look good, but our MLB Amateur draft has not been producing yet, hopefully they will and the next Mad, Posey, or Lincecum, will be on the horizon. Wasn't impressed with this years Draft, hopefully, the prior ones will bear fruit. Look forward to next year Giants fans!
