This is a flashback - the hurt we all felt, being trapped and unable to just do what we wanted. I was stuck in Sydney, there are worse places to be stuck but I tell you now, it didnt matter where you were. You were stuck in those walls of your home and I think we all really play down how big that event was - its changed a generation. It changed me. Be well everyone.

Amy said the band wasn’t planning to release this song as the first single, but when the world went into indefinite lockdown because of the coronavirus, she realised Wasted On You unintentionally portrays this period. It turned out beautiful.

You can clearly tell that Amy's bond with the current members of the band is stronger than with the older ones. Evanescence has become more unified than ever!

@Kry Kry Stott Absolutely! I also miss Evanescence's old sound and style and that the way they used to be presented; Amy standing out as the only woman in a rock band consisting of four. Something about this format was far more iconic, but the new Evanescence presents a far more unique format; a rock band consisting of a female lead singer, who still stands out in spite of not being the only female in the band, and all the members being fully involved in the music and craftsmanship. This is no longer just Amy's journey, Amy's story. It's Evanescence's journey and story. Also, I like to think that Amy's loneliness and isolation in the band is what produced this dark, mystical, sorrowful music that was presented in Origin, Fallen and The Open Door, and now her getting to know and have a fun, fruitful time with her band mates and explore life with them is reflected in her newer works, which reflect a far more whimsical and less gothic sound (Synthesis and The Bitter Truth), and I can tell that she chose to cover The Chain specifically to signify to the fans that Evanescence is no longer a band of conflicts. It's a band representing friendship. ❤

We get to a little bit of what actually goes on behind the scenes for them and see how much they are struggling with it too. There’s no effects, no studio lighting, no smoke. It’s simple and breathtaking. This is their most beautiful music video hands down

For the ones who say "this Is not the sound I was waiting for", they can't be stuck to 2003 forever. An artist, a true artisti, has to evolve. They are all mature and adult and they have families and experiences, it's normal that their music is not anymore the music we were used to when we were 14. I mean, they're not 20 anymore. It's normal to change. They changed their style a bit. And it's ok. It would not be good to have a "The open Door part 2".
I think the song has a bit of each era, but with a new fresh sound, which is amazing. The ones that are saying that are not even fans......or they would notice that the roots are very present in this song!
The open Door was epic... A 2nd part would have been fine by me! ___But so is the Evanesence Album. each has its mertis and that song we always skip... but i know this one song wont define their whole album... Amy loves the metal sound too much to ignore her roots, and her fanbase new&old.

Exactly! I personally have no interest in her going back to the Fallen era sound or such. Sure it's what got them famous but she's so much more musically varied than just that and I love this new song!! I love that, "The Open Door" was different than , "Fallen" and how EV3, was so different from, "TOD" and more a straight up rock album. Of course I also loved the orchestral in synthetic reworks of synthesis!
I think I'm super excited for the new album because this is going to be her/their, true Creative Vision considering cheap there on a completely independent recording out put, with no outside record label production pressure or expectations. GO AMY AND EV!!!

I like Evanescence since I was 12 years old (Now 29), their music has shared with me every sentimental moment of my life. They are an inspiration. This video really touched my heart and I couldn't help crying. I'm glad to know that we have Evanescence for long. I LOVE YOU GUYS.

@@ShadowQueen91 I remember when my cousin gave me "Fallen" when I was 12 years old and my life literally changed forever. In 2017 on their tour in Latin America I was able to finally meet them, I won a meet n greet and I literally don't think I have a happier day in my life than that.
Amy is the true Queen of Metal, vocally and all. There is a lot of good groups. But Amy was the first metal artist I started with. We dont just connect with the music, but her story, many of us relate to her. I can never turn Evanescence down no matter what.

Yes! I literally logged on for Shinedown then saw new Evanescence and Breaking Benjamin and was instantly back in high school
There's something really endearing and also poignant about seeing your absolute favorite band from high school and onwards in exactly the same place as you, doing exactly the same things-- in quarantine, trying to work or stay busy, playing video games, cuddling pets, struggling with huge feelings of isolation and anger-- it's amazing to live at a time right now where things are both so polarizing and yet more unified than ever.
I heard the song this morning before seeing the video-- I liked it, but seeing the video, now I can say I really love it. Whether it was the original intention or just a stroke of odd timing in the world, this song now seems to perfectly summarize dependency not just on a romance or the aforementioned drugs, but on social media and news. Our addiction to the ever-evolving pandemic and the massive influx of opinions, political movements, and updates coinciding with it. The most mundane aspects of life, like meetings or getting groceries, changing radically. I personally wake up every morning with a knot in my stomach and immediately unlock my phone to see the level of flames the world is in today.
Feeling "six feet low", "waiting on a miracle", and feeling "frozen in time" are exact feelings I've harbored recently and this song just becomes that more relatable by making that connection.

Just listened! This is the most ‘90s song they have ever done. Very catchy. Getting Radiohead vibes. It’s dreamy and a solid rocker all in one. Not symphonic - more electronic elements like Swimming Home, but with more guitars. It’s stagnant yet energetic; music and lyrics are synergistic. Not the Ev I’m used to but bravo! Artists are allowed to surprise us. That’s a thumbs up from me.

Not a question, really, but a story I've been desperate to make sure Amy knows.. Mom to mom. It starts off not.. great.. but I promise this is a positive story, and I desperately need to thank Amy from the bottom of my heart, for seeing my then 1 year old through the most scary moments in her life.
In 2016, my daughter had just turned 1 when she was in a horrific accident involving boiling water. She was in the burn unit for 3 weeks and required surgery to heal from it. It got on her face and shoulder. Because of the swelling, my little girl could not open her eyes. She was terrified. I wasnt able to hold her, and my voice only got her so far. I was desperate to bring her some comfort and calmness. I remembered the kids album Dream Too Much had come out 2 months prior, and I pulled it up on my phone and let her listen. It was magic. She'd hear the music and instantly calm down. Those weeks we were there, we let her listen to it so much. It helped her be calm enough to fall asleep. It helped keep her calm when she'd wake up unable to see. It made her happy, even. Amy.. You gave my 1 year old daughter the so needed peace and calm in moments where even her parents could not. I will never be able to describe how grateful we are. Thank you. Thank you so much for helping this tiny child make it through the hardest days she's ever faced. Thank you for being there for my daughter. I've been trying to share this for years.. I really hope you see this. I need you to know what you've done for her. Please, let me know if you do - I dont need much, just some type of confirmation that you know. I've thanked everyone thats helped her. Every doctor, nurse, cafeteria worker, room cleaner we saw. But I've yet to have my thanks reach you.
She made a full recovery and is now a healthy, happy 4 year old with only very minor scarring. She still listens to Evanescence. Imperfection is her current favorite :)

I love the way Evanescence gets to make songs with such right-on beginnings like My Heart is Broken and Wasted on You itself. Fun fact is these are two songs I can't say I liked them right away at first listening. I had to give them time to just wake up and feel how rocking and touching they are, from their very beginnings.

This isn't old evanescence. I actually never expected them to come back because everything after selftittled was mediocre but this song is okish. Its just too much of the same poprock we get nowadays with bands that used to play a very specific sub genre and they try to "innovate". Sadly, most kids don't until they get older. But I agree. My mom did some crazy things when she was my age. Couldn't tell by looking at her that she hung with the Hells Angels and repossessed cars between driving convoy as a vaner or a trucker. She just looks so safe and innocent. Go figure. I guess that's why they say to not judge by looks alone.
