Amy Lee is thinking about her own childhood when she was bullied with severe depression, that's the video, she's singing to herself saying how she's going to make her future better
and how do you know this?
That's absolutely not true. Never has it been mentioned anywhere that she was bullied or suffered severe depression. Do a little research and you'll find that the whole album is about suffering and loss in general. Amy Lee tends to not personalize her music like that.
Also, someone can have depression in one part of their life and not have it in another.
She has said herself that she suffered with depression when she was younger and that it inspired a lot of her writing. It's also pretty obvious in her writing. The idea that Amy doesn't personalize her music is laughable. She also suffered with depression from losing her sister at such a young age, and she has also written songs (such as "Hello") about her sister that passed away when she was a child and that is pretty goddamn personal.

WOW. JUST WOW. The lyrics are second only to Amy’s vocals in their power. The transitions of this song mirror how quickly the stages in life can flow. You’re left holding onto the few strands of your old life while you cope with the changes and grieve the losses. And then the opening piano is so gorgeous. The illusion of simplicity in the key strokes flows above such a rich and vastly more complicated yet subtle foundation. Evanescence never fails.

I also lost my sister. She passed in 2006, and like Amy, it still haunts me today. This song makes me breakdown, because it makes me think of my sister.

For someone who fought depression for many years, hearing Amy beautifullly shouting "don't you dare surrender. I'm still right beside you" makes me tremble. Of course, not because "yeah, ok, one of my favorite singers is beside me" but because in truth makes me think of so many people that tried many times to say it to me, and sometimes was that ideia, that shouting, that actually saved me. My professors, my sister, now my boyfriend. I'm so thankfull for that and love them so much.
Now, in a better moment of my life, I'm trying hard to be the person that say "don't you dare surrender" and be beside those I can help.

Those words make me feel like she is actually my friend and cares. I met her at a meet and greet and she was so nice and actually took the time to talk to me. I have seen then 3 times and can't wait til they come to CT again. I am 61, her music has no age boundaries at all.

This song helped me through the worst of my depression when I was suicidal, along with a few others. So thank you for helping to keep me on this planet a bit longer.
I was going through a very bad depression in my life and when I found this song, this is what stopped me from ending it all. This band has done so much for me. Every song has always helped me through my life and this one in particular spoke to me deeply. I am so grateful for this band and Amy's talented singing. Her emotion is what truly drives these songs home.

Amy is just as beautiful as the day I met her in 2011 in Texas. I’ll never forget that day. When I thanked her for her music you would have thought she was a new artist with how humble she was. So sweet. When we took a photo I wanted to be respectful so I asked if I could put my arm on her shoulder. I did & she just smirked, grabbed my arm and put it around her waist instead. We tend to idolize our hero’s but she’s just a warm, real person. I hope to meet her again one day because her music saw me through so many heartbreakingly difficult years. Her music helped me hold on & not give up & for that I’ll always be grateful. 💜💜💜
Evanescence has held a very special place in my heart since I was a kid. I listened to them way more than anything else and know all of their older songs by heart. To be able to thank them, especially Amy, in person, especially now having heard and seen in interviews how down-to-earth and humble she is, I would just melt and be so happy and would probably cry.

Ethentent Aw I know the feeling. Hopefully you’ll get to meet her & the band one day. I won a pre-show meet & greet where we got to watch the band rehearse on stage, stand in a line & say hi to them all, get autographs & get a photo. They were all so nice & considerate. The crew gave the band silver markers for autographs but I wanted them to sign a grey t-shirt so it wouldn’t have worked (silver on grey). The minute Terry realized it he walked over to a crew member & had them get a black marker just so they could sign my shirt. My only regret is the photo. According to the fan club rules we were each allowed to take a photo with our smartphones. The employees at the venue were like, “Nope no time for that. There’s a photographer here he’ll just snap the pics & you can download them from this website.” Well when I got home & went to the site the pics were there, but they were SO pixelated & poor quality that my eyes looked like two black dots! 😢 My husband did his best in photoshop to touch it up & framed it for me. Overall though it was amazing. They don’t have an official, paid fan club anymore (to my knowledge they discontinued that). Your best bet is probably just to check all the bands social media account ahead of time if they’re coming to your city & see if there’s meet & greet opportunities. Some people know how to find the tour bus outside to catch them on their way out of town but I could never get the hang of that. Haha. Good luck! 😉

Such a beautiful woman, such a powerful vocalist, and such inspired music... This was my first time hearing this selection but not my first time admiring Amy Lee and her work. Just WOW.
the first part is very impressive. the darkness, the rain, she sitting alone facing again a torment that has never left her; the loneliness, the need for an answer, the tragedy. she is reliving the event from the point of view of her trauma and for this reason the atmosphere is very tragic.
It feels like I can get inside her head and relive her traumas and her torments.
what has always linked me to this woman from the beginning is a mysterious sense of suffering that pervades her songs. at first it was not clear: all her songs are pervaded by an aura of mystery. probably because she was young, her suffering looked different. insecure, fragile, confused. now she is stronger, more determined and confident. she is stronger and can talk about it, but I think that the more time passes, the more her trauma becomes stronger, because she constantly relives it in her mind, in an ever more lucid way. as if she didn't want to forget. she doesn't want to forget!
the death of her sister, more than painful, was traumatizing. I think it left a very deep mark. she was a child, she experienced the event in a tragic way. and we don't know what happened next, if her parents helped her deal with it. a difficult past. I hope she can heal. I pray for her!

This is amazing. From my perspective this little girl lost someone to suicide. I believe that Amy speaks for her, this video illustrates what's happening inside the girl's brain that's why it is so psychedelic due to the fact that her little brain can't get why someone would do such thing . Man, this song has a little bit of everything! The beginning starts off with beautiful piano playing, then a full-on orchestra, to a wicked beat, to Amy rapping mixed in with some unique awesome singing! Like I said, the song has it all! And like all her other music videos, this one is awesome as well! Love it! ❤️

Bands change. People grow. Absolutely nothing stays the same. I don't see why people expect the exact same things for years, over & over. Yeah, the video could be better but just because they took a different approach to what fans may have expected (which is the whole purpose of Synthesis), doesn't make the video or Evanescence terrible. I Love This! I wish I could take away the pain of so many people. And I try to lift them up and keep their heads up. I lost my 16yr old son March 4, 2020 in a tragic wreck. And so many young people are hurting too. I try to help them while going through my own storm.
Evanescence was my mother's favorite band, she passed away two years ago and to this day I still remember her voice and it sounds just like Amy's, I'm sorry for your heartache I hope youre doing better and still listening to this amazing song in remembrance.

I turn to this song whenever I think of my sister or when my son has struggles. I lost my sister to herself in 2016 and that year my son lost a second mother. My sister and I lost our father the same way.
Kiddo's been through so much and sometimes he struggles hard. In this world you cannot always protect your children. There are disgusting and selfish adults in this world who either don't care or think about the impact they have. And after the fact you can't just erase what happened or lift the pain away.
I have my own struggles and past but have learned to push past them. I want to give my son the tools I never had at his age (took me years to develop) so he can make it and be strong against outside and inner forces. But he's so much like my father and sister it's scary. I want him to make it out and thrive. I want him to be able to break that pattern and I live for that.
I like this sound. It's got a little more bite and emotion to it. And that piano solo at the beginning is haunting.
I listen to this song when I have my depression breakdowns, to remind myself that I should never dare to surrender! Thank you Amy, for always speaking to us in your songs. We love you!

An observation having only recently discovered Evanescence and Amy's haunting voice. This is about suicide and I have noticed Amy in other videos wearing a loose wrap around either one or both writs. Part of her costume or more telling her life or someone in her life? She makes us think through song. Rare gift.
she never goes super into detail about her personal life, the music just speaks for her, but she also writes in a way where she makes whatever it is relatable to all of us through her emotion.

This is easily the best song in Evanescence's career, and I've listened to every single one of their songs and covers from the start of their catalogue to the present day. I even have their demo cassette tape released with the TBT special edition. I felt like Amy was right there with me in spirit, and after meeting her twice, I wouldn't be surprised if she was. I have such an emotional bond and connection with her music as it has really helped me through trauma in life.
My queen had risen once again and she is still fabulous! Loved her and Evanescence for over a decade now!

Been a fan since i was 10, turning 26 on the 5th of November. And still, Amy speaks to me in a way no one else can. I am very much the little girl in the video...and Amy and the (GOOD) members of Ev have been so important in my life. I may have grown up, i don't dress in all black, and I'm finally learning to be happy, something i never thought was possible honestly. And there Amy and Ev have always been, echoing everything i feel. I'll never be able to thank Amy or the band members properly, but i will definitely be buying Synthesis. Amy's journey, in some small way, has always collided with mine. I understand her vision, her words, in a way that only an individual listener can. What they mean to me may be different from someone else's interpretation, but it's very real. And I'm so happy for Amy, finally able to set a light on her vision. She's happy. And i am learning to be. Congrats Amy on a beautiful song, gorgeous video and a fantastic vision. I'll be following you until the end of the dream 💜

It's more about not giving in to depression and killing yourself ("don't you dare surrender, don't you leave me here without you", "we are alive", etc) if they die she could never replace them because they're unique
likeabunnie yes and also overcoming our dark pasts and loses of loved ones even coming to terms with our own inner demons whatever they may be. I do feel the end is showing her embracing her own child or inner child (past) coming to terms and accepting that it is now part of her life and she has accepted its over now and moved on ....
It’s good to change yourself for the better and progress and work on your flaws, vices etc. and remember no ones perfect. You don’t have to be perfect, but just keep trying . Never surrender . Don’t let the darkness consume you and take over life.

The in - between part is amazing, that piano part blows my mind ... and imperfection is very dramatic, so powerful even without the classical rock instruments, it`s a new amazing sound very familiar to the Origin Era. Evanescence always have the right song in the perfect time for us.

there are better ones actually, is just that u dont listen to somphonic metal bands
99% of artists do use autotune, but it's for minor pitch corrections. If autotune is done well, you can't hear it. But if you can hear the autotune (weird-sounding vowels, warbling voices, etc), that's when it goes too far and becomes a headache.

Eric Farrell almost all people use auto tune including Amy lee. It’s not a bad thing and doesn’t mean the singer can’t sing. It’s just used to make the voice sound more polished. Not to say that there aren’t a ton of people who can’t sing who use it to sound good. A good way to see if a singer can sing is to watch live vocals.
Last time I checked, Amy's voice was all over the place when she sang live. Even though she can't sing live, I still love their album songs. Just don't expect me to be going to one of their concerts.

I have been listening to evanescence ever since they came out, I connect with her music in ways that I cannot always explain. I have used her music to perform a mild exorcist on myself, also in the past couple years I have went through a huge exorcism where I ended up in darkness as the light came to me as I kept walking towards the light, the tunnel became more prominent. Then once through the white tunnel I came to. I owe my thanks to amy lee and her wonderful voice, she herself soothes my soul and lifts me to heights that I cannot even explain. The album is called SYNTHESIS! it was meant to re-work old songs and turn them orchestral!

When did you last see her perform? I saw her live many years ago when Evanescence first came out. The performance wasn't great but it was authentic. No voice dubbing at all. Through the years she has fined tuned her style of music and voice, I can only imagine her concerts follow suit.
@@allys5214 I kinda agree, on previous tours she was jumping, running and unnecesarily losing her breath. On Synthesis Tour where she was just standing in one place and singing her voice was amazing and almost like on studio recording.
