Mig21, the feared foe to the F4 phantom. Despite it being an old design, it’s still a great post Cold War fighter, it’s one of the many Soviet era weapons that doesn’t seem to disappear anytime soon and it’s influence has inspired many other planes like the F16.
It seems that Soviet designers were great proponents of the KISS method. Their tanks, especially in WWII, the AK-47 and the MIG21 are robust pieces of equipment designed to last and easy to operate. This plane seems to have some problems but on the whole it fulfills what it was designed to do.
I heard that Soviets would store their jet fighters outside in frost and then before flight beat the ice off the plane with sledge hammers. What I do know for certain though is what issues Poland had when switching from Soviet MiGs and SUs to F-16. It turned out that our airfields were too bumpy and too dirty for F-16. That is because Soviet jets had heavier, more robust frame and suspension, titanium shielding and sometimes alternative, over the wing air intakes to be able to operate from bombed airfields, so they didn't need well maintained airfields either. A similar principle was adopted in design of all Polish jet fighter 'Kobra 2000', that had main intake over the wings and was capable of the cobra maneuver, hence the 'Kobra' name. It never got funding though.

In my opinion, the mig-21 fishbed conceptually remains one of the most effective combat aircraft of the jet era. Here we see Russian and American aerial self-confidence. Both Russia and especially America demonstrate greed and a deceptive overestimation of the production of weapons as a means of earning money by officials, businessmen and generals. The state budget is the largest monetary resources. An example is the latest generation of F35 combat aircraft. As if this plane can guarantee air superiority. These are mostly assumptions. Of course, something new always gives some kind of psychological confidence and motivation. But it's mostly emotions. Mig 21 and F 35 and all other types of aircraft fundamentally and technologically differ little from each other. Both the Mig-21 and the F35 are part of a very complex and sophisticated system that requires great moral and physical effort to maintain balance and solve any problems. For example, the same Mig-21 can fight and intercept the same F 35 in aerial combat at long, medium, short and contact distances. Provided that the pilot has passed all the necessary training and education, which gave him a clear and sober picture of the situation with all the pros and cons of the upcoming and full-fledged battle. And, of course, a well-organized organic system with proper management, maximum training and a brave team to solve any problems. Especially when the pilot fits exactly into the available time and space, and also makes good use of the current conditions and instantly decides how to safely get out of a dangerous situation. In particular, in contact air combat, a modern or superior radar system, avionics and weapons are not critical, one can even say that they are useless in a stressful situation. Development and updating take place inside the machine. The machine is practically powerless before external forces and factors such as wind, temperature, turbulence, gravity, air density, optical distortion and so on.
Ah the Mig 21, not the most effective interceptor in the world, but it was cheap and easy to operate. The ability of the Soviets to produce them in large numbers and export them cheaply definitely was an effective part of their Cold War strategy.
@@scootergeorge7089 Good Point. The Mig-21 2000 is an upgraded version developed by Israel Aerospace Industries fitted with an EL/M 2032 radar. The radar uses a low sidelobe planar array antenna and pulse doppler beam sharpening which provides all altitude, all aspect look-up/look down and shoot down capability. The Mig-21PF was the first version to deploy an airborne radar (RP-21) housed in an updated nose cone.
Then it is JL9G. (export veersion is FTC 2000G). It has the nose intake replaced by a pair of DSI. Wing is also modified to double delta. Still in production.
The metaphor here is the WW2 M-4 Sherman tank. It was never as tecnologically advanced as its German opposition. It never had as good a gun as its German opposition. But we made factors more of them than the Germans did theirs, and it was as simple to maintain as a car, whose engies it used in some models. As a result, the Israelis were using M-4 derivatives in the 70s.
*Well, if you compare tanks, then the M-4 Sherman is not very suitable for this; the T-34 is the most common tank of the Second World War and it delivered a lot of problems to German tankers; the Germans even tried to copy it when they made their T-V Panther tank !;-)*

Yet; the editor and the narrator decided to ruin it; by blabbing "Nato propaganda," from the minute 9:59 until the end of it. And that: most probably means; that the Mig-21 still causes a lot of unrest onto the "Nato," military decision makers.
Amazing, beautiful aircraft. "Fishbed" is up there with "Frogfoot" as dumbest NATO reporting names. But the aircraft itself is a legend.

Imagine the Mig 21 with a glass cockpit, AESA radar and an F110GE engine.
Where do you put the radar?
@@scootergeorge7089 Good Point. The Mig-21 2000 is an upgraded version developed by Israel Aerospace Industries fitted with an EL/M 2032 radar. The radar uses a low sidelobe planar array antenna and pulse doppler beam sharpening which provides all altitude, all aspect look-up/look down and shoot down capability. The Mig-21PF was the first version to deploy an airborne radar (RP-21) housed in an updated nose cone.
That would turn it into an F-16
JF-17 has entered the chat.
Then it is JL9G. (export veersion is FTC 2000G). It has the nose intake replaced by a pair of DSI. Wing is also modified to double delta. Still in production.
Érd city Hungary .Crashed 1 mile from our house on April 22, 1985, 2 dead, 2 houses missing. The case became secret.
nice DCS footage XD
MIG-21 IS ❤
in 3:22 and 4:21 is Su-11 BtW

@Pancake Thank you, much appreciated:)
Romania still flying with these fighters modernized by Israel to "LANCER" standards.
Теперь икона российского военного авиастроения это самолёты семейства Су 27, су35. И я рад, отличный самолёт. Теперь работать только над вариантами вооружения.
My Grandfather flew these aircraft from 1969 to 1988. In 1971 war he flew these over East Pakistan and was part of the team that destroyed the Kurmitola and Tejgaon runways of PAF, apart from bombing the most famous Dacca Government house which led to eventual surrender of Pakistan.
0:31 it`s SU-9, not mig 21
I always loved the MiG-21. I wish Canada had ignored the U.S. and completed the purchase of the MiG-21. Instead we were saddled with American junk like the F-104 Starfighter, the F-5 Tiger and the somewhat better F-101 Voodoo.
The 1968 Alfa Romeo. Your Phantoms wouldn't get you far.
Why are there so many Su-7s in the video?
MiGs 21 was used in Yugoslav wars....1991/1995.
Few are still in use with Sebia and Croatia.....but on the exit doors
Serbia switching with MIG 29.....and Croatia witf Dasault Rafale.
That was almost, one of the best documentaries about aviation that had been posted on Ytb. Yet; the editor and the narrator decided to ruin it; by blabbing "Nato propaganda," from the minute 9:59 until the end of it.
And that: most probably means; that the Mig-21 still causes a lot of unrest onto the "Nato," military decision makers.
मिकोयान-गुरेविच मिग- २१ , सरलता ही दिव्यता है।
Iam amazed by it. They are bumps, panels the don't fit. It just brut power. Like the f4 Phantom the school bus with massave power.
I vote for the Mig 15.
He flew a 25 year old MIG 21..!!!
Amazing, beautiful manned target drone
You lost me the moment you put the image of a SU-7 right at the begin of the video.
