Having the chops to play this is one thing, but the ability to learn by ear and commit to memory this much difficult material this quickly is frankly incredible. This would take me weeks, if not months to get memorized and under my fingers. Amazing.
He may not admit it himself, but Charles very well might be one of the most technically gifted and well rounded bass guitarists to ever grace the Earth.
What amazes me about Charles’s playing-other than everything else everyone in this comment section has already said-is that the bass-ness (if that’s a word) is not lost even though he’s covering guitar solos. There are people who can play the bass like they’re playing guitar…Sheehan comes to mind…but very few can play guitar parts on the bass while at the same time doing what a bass player should do-dominate the low end and provide the groove. Hats off to Charles. Wow.
I disagree. His choices of which notes to slap, for example, is bass-like even though he’s playing the same notes as the guitarists. The Petrucci and Polythia solos are great examples.
@@einarabelc5 application and technique can change tone. That's why when a guitarist just does the same thing on bass it hits the cliche 'he's playing guitar on bass' look at Matt Heafy's recent bass video to understand. Charles still has the application and tone of the bass player when playing other instrument solos. Which is a skill in itself. And it shows Charle's broke multiple ceilings of virtuosity. I'm a huge dream theater fan and it's interesting how you compare the Govi and Petrucci solos. To me, the Petrucci solo is a "GUITAR SOLO" and the Govi one is "intense jazz fusion runs" which completely translate to bass. I could hear a bassist playing that kind of solo on bass, I'd expect it from a jazz bassist doing a solo. The petrucci one though is really interesting to hear translated onto bass as you add in 'guitar-isms'. That isn't something a bassist would traditionally play, at least until recently when progressive metal brought in really inventive bass playing. GOAT is another case of that, since even Tim's guitar playing is kind of "he writes complicated stuff on his computer and then figures out how to play it on guitar". Not if, just how.
Alip ba ta is alien...every song cover make me shock,,,one band on his one acoustic guitar, very difficult to make every song in acoustic guitar with bass line, harmonics, rythems, drums, n vocal too with beautifull sound if i heard..his only use one accoustic guitar...

check out alip cover another day
Damn.. not only is it harder on bass but you also did with just fingers , props to you !I love the way GOAT sounded
That Guthrie solo is insane. Most guitarists wouldn’t even attempt it. I’ve been aware of him for decades and haven’t even thought to play his music.
Need an episode of The guitarist that needs bass, featuring Alip Ba Ta.
Yess... agree
Waiting
I need more Charles playing polyphia, I didn't think it was possible to make that song sound even better... But here we are!
Alip ba ta was my fav...please collab🙏🔥🔥
You are absolutely the best . Love them all highly executed rhythmic and precise . Keep the videos coming
you killed it bro
Du bist der beste
Alip ba ta is alien...every song cover make me shock,,,one band on his one acoustic guitar, very difficult to make every song in acoustic guitar with bass line, harmonics, rythems, drums, n vocal too with beautifull sound if i heard..his only use one accoustic guitar...
Amazing. Let's see if we can get Alip Ba Ta coat of paint for his rehearsal studio.
im in love with your take on guthrie govan, im new here but he did my favorite solo ever as well on the title track to his cakes album, i feel like that would sound heavenly if its possible on bass
